Kidality! Wait….

While Arc System Works was probably more than happy with the success of Persona 4 Arena, the developer was by no means resting on its laurels. Today, a trailer for the newest entry in the BlazBlue series, Chrono Phantasma, has been announced. The game, which is a sequel (instead of yet another update of Continuum Shift) will be released in Japanese Arcades this winter but a location test will be done tomorrow. There has been no talk of when the console port can be expected though the port of Continuum Shift took a little over 8 months. The new game will feature three new characters, as well as new moves, outfits, and animations for the old characters. The trailer is below:

The three new characters are Amane Nishiki, a fighter who uses a robe and magic in combat, Bullet, a fighter who uses metal gauntlets and flame-based attacks, and Azrael, a muscular fighter who uses his bare fists. The other fighters shown in the trailer are Ragna, Relius, Platinum, Jin, Noel (who, due to plot reasons, has lost her old guns), Rachel, Taokaka, Iron Tager, Litchi, Arakune, Bang Shishigami, Carl Clover, Hakumen, Tsubaki (who, due to plot reasons, is in a “dark” outfit), Hazama, Makoto, and Valkenhyn.

So, are you excited for this new game? Be sure to post your thoughts in the comments below and keep following Blistered Thumbs for all the latest news on this game.

theres no way they can screw this up unless they are actively trying. One thing however bothers me about this, I get the feeling from this that they wont revisit the final scene from 2 (Relious and Hazama standing over what appears to be a couldron). and if it turns out to be just another Muramako unit I call foul

I’ve heard that this is going to be the last Blazblue game in the series. Does anybody know something about that?

Man, when are ASW going to be releasing a new Guilty Gear? I do like BB but l am completely burned out by this series lately. They have nerfed the characters up to the max and the mechanics are starting to bore me(Astral Heats are useless).

That said, the new characters look good but l will be more interested if ASW found a way to add more depth to the gameplay.

I was hoping more of the characters would have differing appearances and styles by now, at least Noel looks different and I *think* Carl and Rachel look a little older…though it’s hard to tell.

Third game and still no playable Jubei. I swear, if they release him as DLC I’m gonna be pissed (But I’ll buy anyway…).

All that’s left to do is wait. I have no access to arcade machines so console port it is.

God damn it… I saw Chrono in the title and thought it was something related to Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross… I really need to pay more attention…

I saw the title and was hoping it was Chrono series related. I, too, just had my soul crushed.

Oh yes, quite nice to see this at last. I am slightly concerned by the absence of Lambda/Nu or Mu from the trailer’s sound-off of the series’ characters, but I guess that’s probably to avoid story spoilers, since CS ended with Lambda dead and Mu reverted back to Noel, so they’ll probably need new Murakumo units to inherit their movesets. I’ve been picking up Lambda and considering switching to maining her though, so I guess I can’t help but have a slight bit of apprehension at the absence of her or a successor in the trailer even knowing that.

Can’t say I like Noel’s new outfit though. Too stripperific. And here I was even hoping the next game might put Makoto into something a little less ridiculous… oh well.

It is a bit weird that all of the new playable characters have never been seen in the story before. I figured Jubei was the obvious next choice, what with all the Six Heroes except him and Nine being playable now, and it having been teased in a “Teach Me, Miss Litchi!” segment that he’d show off what his sword could do in the next game. I also figured, after seeing the extra story content of CSEX, that Kokonoe might have a shot at being playable in the next game as well. Oh well, we’ll see how the new characters work I guess – I do kinda like what I see of Amane’s moves at least, though that is just a first-glance impression of very few moves.

Considering how CS ended and everyone was heading to Ikaruga, it shouldn’t be a suprise that some new characters will be meet there that we haven’t seen before.

I assume an equivalent for Lambda/Nu and Mu will be put in eventually for the console port. But they might be keeping it secret for now because spoilers. As for why they aren’t in, that’s the problem with having a story in fighting games. Characters die.

Curious and curious though, I want to know how everything will work out when it arrives. Although that’s a long wait, since the Arcade version comes first then we get the console port. Locale testing for the arcade version is supposably very soon though.

It isn’t. As I said, it’s specifically the fact that all of the new characters are never before seen ones that surprises me, given that I thought Jubei was an obvious pick for the next game, and CSEX even established a way that Kokonoe could be made playable as well.

Despite the appearance, Amane is obviously a guy. That voice, and I have yet to see a Japanese woman who uses the super-masculine “ore” personal pronoun.

    Also. Noel. No hat. Wut.

I just saw that Hazama a has a new Distortion with Foot Stamps, Bang has a cool Distortion (Astral?) as well. Bullet is interesting, is Bullet possibly Lord Tenjou’s heir? There is similarity to Bang’s fighting style, so it’s possible. And Noel has a Shotgun now. Also that very last shot… That Symbol… Nu?

I’m laughing hysterically like Terumi from all the hype…my body can’t take this…

…Why do I get the feeling this will be just like Continuum Shift.

Anyway love the fact that another Blazblue game is coming out. I’m hoping it will be good if it hits consoles… and they better get all the Original English VA’s (I disliked Bang’s 2nd Voice.)

As for new characters i’ll sum it all up on a few words for each of them.
    Amane Nishiki = Blazblue’s Bridget?
Bullet = Similar play style as Makoto’s
    Azrael = AU Kanji (lol)

Interesting indeed. It’s pretty much already an insta-buy on that look alone. Very Cryptic ending as well, Blazblue always has had an interesting and complex storyline (I’d say it’s the best story in a modern fighter hands down) So it shall be fun to see what happens.

    Now to wait…

Wait didn’t they say they were making Jubei a playable character in the next game? Also is Amane a guy or a girl, did they pull another Bridget on us?
