The future is 96% lens flare.

The Gamescom news rush is in full swing. The first big announcement comes from Capcom, who has partnered with Dontnod Entertainment to produce a new intellectual property called Remember Me. Here’s the reveal trailer:

Taking place in the not-too-distant future of 2084 Neo-Paris, you take control of Nilin, “a former elite memory hunter with the ability to break into people’s minds and steal or even alter their memories. Arrested, and with her memory wiped clean Nilin must now set out on a mission to rediscover her identity.” The game plays out as a third-person action adventure, as you can see from the first gameplay footage below:

Remember Me is scheduled for a May 2013 release onto Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Looks very promising, hopefully it’s not gonna be too linear.

Is it just me or does the main character have similarities toward Major Motoko Kusanagi from Ghost in the Shell?

This looks like a great idea, if they can use the memory thing to their full advantage, not just in scripted events. For example, you implant a memory into a guard that they have to go do something right away to stop their patrol, or implant a memory that the guard next to them is cheating with his wife or something so that they attack eachother. One can dream.

Oh, it’s a new game? I was under the impression “Remember Me” was Capcom’s upcoming documentary on Mega Man.

Got to say, I am generally happy to see the number of games wanting to copy the success of Dues Ex: HR and get that same vibe going. Yeah it has been a mixed bag with what has come out so far, but the fact you have games coming out which explore the same themes is a good thing.

Seems a lot like Mirror’s Edge to me, tone. Which means I’m interrested.

…Oh, wait, it’s Capcom. No, no I’m not.

This looks…interesting. Actively changing memories as a gamplay element looks like a cool idea but it could also be completely scripted and result in frustrating trial and error. But I’ll keep it on my watchlist I’m curious.
