The only screens available for the game are landscape concepts.

The saga of THQ’s financial difficulties continues. It seems that the company will no longer be publishing the mysterious action game currently in development by ex-Team Ninja head Tomonobu Itagaki. Eurogamer is reporting that “All rights to action game Devil’s Third have been returned to creator Tomonobu Itagaki and his Valhalla team.”

It’s been no secret that the troubled publisher has been looking to get rid of some of its less valuable properties, but the company was hoping to sell this particular I.P. Instead, it looks like the creator of Dead or Alive will just have to shop it elsewhere. This is bad news for both Valhalla and THQ, especially in light of the latter’s recent stock market shenanigans. Hopefully the reverse stock split and the reduction of their lineup to only profitable core games will be enough to staunch the bleeding.

In addition to having no publisher no, Devil’s Third is more or less in development hell right now. A mid-season engine switch and a complete information drought have not inspired confidence in the intellectual property and this turn of events does nothing to change that preconceived notion. Itagaki-san may be well known for reviving Ninja Gaiden and having an eccentric personality, but his new game may be dead on arrival.

We’ll keep you updated, but at this time Devil’s Third has no release window. It is in development for PS3 and Xbox 360.

Why I have this feeling that Konami is gonna jump to acquire the publishing rights for this game?

THQ must be on life support now. Surely it’s just the WWE license that’s even keeping them afloat this year? I have heard flutterings of them considering selling the Saints Row license to EA or Activision.

(Though I’m still majorly disappointed by the cancellation of WWE All-Stars 2)

I believe their Warhammer 40,000 license also helps them keep afloat, Dawn of War and such.
