That gun looks like the kind of weapon that blows up things good. I cannot wait to try it out.

Insomniac Games has released new information today about Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault that finally starts to make clear the game’s full shape and scope. Conceived in part as a celebration of the tenth anniversary of everyone’s favorite Lombax and robot duo, the company has previously revealed that R&C:FFA would mark a return to the third-person camera and weapons driven gameplay that made the series famous. Now it seems that the game will also bring something new to the table in the form of tower defense inspired gameplay sequences. The Senior Community Manager of Insomniac Games, James Stevenson, had the following to say about this addition:

James Stevenson, Senior Community Manager of Insomniac Games
Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault heads back to the classic camera, weapons and third-person Ratchet gameplay that the series is known for, while adding a new tower defense element that will have you building and defending a base against invasions using your ultimate Ratchet & Clank arsenal. This new twist, added to the classic Ratchet gameplay, brings a whole new level of strategy and decision-making to Full Frontal Assault. You’ll want to make sure your Hoverboots are laced up and ready as you race to defeat your enemy while keeping your base secure. Wait, Hoverboots don’t have laces…

Stevenson also made it clear that these tower defense sequences would not be the sole focus of Full Frontal Assault and that players could expect plenty of classic R&C moments while “confront(ing) an alien army across five levels set on three different planets.” Players will be able to play as either Ratchet, Clank, or the infamous Captain Qwark and it is apparently a desire for revenge against the latter that leads the brand new main baddie being introduced in FFA to attack the trio. Stevenson also revealed that RA:FFA will feature both split screen and online cooperative gameplay, an additional separate online mode to be revealed at a later date, and all the upgrades, extra character skins and unlockable content that fans have come to expect from the series. Check out some new screenshots of the game below:

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault is due out sometime this fall for PS3 as a PSN exclusive. Stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for continuing coverage of the game and be sure to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

If anyone can make Tower Defense fun again, it’s these guys.

I -love- this series. And split-screen co-op stuff? Sold! More games need split-screen co-op.

I’m glad this series is still going. It was always one of my favorites, and I think it’s underrated by most people. It’s always been one of the few game series that remembers games are supposed to be -fun- more than anything.

Providing the towers are Suitably Ratchet and Clank based (AKA, there’s one that turns Enemies into Turkeys or whatever small enemy this game has and one thats based of forbidden R.Y.N.O. technology), I will be ok with them.

I wish this was a longer PS3 title.

I started looking for the HD collection, but it’s almost sold out in alot of stores, I should keep looking.

The Ratchet and Clank Collection for PS3 comes out on August 28. You can pre-order it on Amazon right now for only 30 bucks, which is a total steal.

That’s actually what the price of the game will be when it comes out in stores, so it really doesn’t make much of a difference.
