Just in time for EVO, Capcom has announced a blast from the past inside Marvel vs. Capcom Origins, a PSN/XBLA title that packs in Marvel Super Heroes with the original Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes. Both Arcade classics were the foundation of over the top gameplay of Capcom spectacle fighters like Marvel vs. Capcom 3, and they will be making a splash in September 2012 online with HD graphical upgrades, in-game achievement counters identical to SF3: Third Strike Online, online play, spectator modes and replay saving. Attendees of EVO or next weekend at San Diego Comic Con will be able to play this blast from the past and Capcom Unity will also be livestreaming play of Origins at SDCC during the weekend event.
Now, all I have to hope for is an HD remake of the Marvel Super Heroes vs Street Fighter and Capcom Vs SNK 2 and I can die happy.

I can’t help but notice it’s on the consoles, but neither the Vita nor the 3DS. They’re really abandoning ship, aren’t they?
Eh. While I may try the demo just to see how the old games played, I don’t think I’ll pick it up. I’ve got UMvC3 and the XBLA version of MvC2, so these would likely just end up redundant for me. Besides, I’m already overloaded on fighting games – I already alternate playing UMvC3, BlazBlue, Skullgirls, and Street Fighter x Tekken when I’m in the mood for the genre, and soon enough I’ll have Persona 4 Arena on top of those, not to mention several others I know I’ll pick up over the next year.
Unless they improve the detail, resolution, or detail of the sprites in game, HD doesn’t have any real meaning in this title.
And am I the only one who felt sick to their stomach when the first character they focus on after the “iconic characters” slide is freaking Megaman? Things like this and the inclusion of the box-art Megaman in Street Fighter X Tekken feel more like Capcom is rubbing the death of Megaman in our face more than paying homage to Capcom’s greatest IP.
I CAN FINALLY PLAY AS GAMBIT AGAIN!
Dragon Age is going to sue? Well, seeing as how a game can’t sue someone, I assume you meant Bioware. So they are going to sue because they used Origins as a subtitle…which is one of the most overused subtitles ever, long before Bioware even made games. Okay…
Rayman Origins, Silent Hill: Origins, Baten Kaitos Origins, Final Fantasy Origins, Spore: Origins, Shaun White Snowboarding : Origins, Heck, I’ve even seen Zombie Granny: Origins HD. And the list keeps on growing.
Exactly; you see my point? Yet James seems to think Dragon Age is going to sue. Or Bioware, whatever.
I believe it was a joke.
Silly writer, jokes are for kids. Srs internet captions are srs business!
Though I will confess even I had the initial eye-roll at the joke, just because I myself am a writer and I swear to god almighty you can’t step fifteen words into a sentence without some troll jumping from his seat screaming FRAUD! Plagiarism! YOU STOLE THAT FROM XX’s (favorite authors) story XX where XX does XX. It’s simply become a redundant aspect of the information age we live in. People just don’t seem to realize that their favorite ideas have been used hundreds of times before even the one they source it from.
At any rate, I digress. I won’t be getting it. Personal lack of interest mostly and too many games on my shelf as is waiting to be opened.
$15 for upgraded versions of Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes. That’s $7.50 each, which is cheaper than how much was being charged for 3rd Strike remake. Not a bad deal.
Also, Mega Man is in it to. And Psylocke. No Dante, Ammy, Dr Strange or Deadpool though, but for people who wanted those characters, they should get these games.
Its a nice deal indeed, but I wont buy it, I wanted MVC2 the good version, not the glitch haven one, I want CV2 but they wont release it!, so yea, they bring in the old, giving use crappy new games, and they dont give the sweet old games like Capcom Vs Snk 2, with every feature the old game had and give us a netcode like 3rd Strike, but this wont happen, they hate us and they know if they give this game ,people will abandon the others.
I’ll wait for the inevitable Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom Origins Special Edition.
At best there may be a bundle with the already released yet not upgraded 3rd Strike Online Edition and Marvel VS Capcom 2 (which has been out for 3 years now, even been price dropped.). But there’s only so much you can add to 10 year old games. It’s already as good as it’s going to get though. If you really are cheap as chips though and horrified that they meet release an cheaper bundle in like a year or something when the online scene is mostly evolved of the pro players that spam the hell out of the old infinites in these games. You could wait for the next Capcom Sale, the last one on the PSN was in January this year. Or you could buy it now? Because it’s already a pretty good deal?
Special Arcade Edition.
