I don't read comics, so I'm forced to assume nightwing is emperor palpatine.

Yesterday we told you that Nightwing and Cyborg were coming to NetherRealm’s DC fighting game, Injustice. To prove this, I have acquired the official San Diego Comic-Con trailer and embedded it below for you.

That’s all well and good, but I have so many more burning questions. What about story mode? How many characters? Why is Superman being such as Superdick? Luckily for me, an exclusive interview with Ed Boon over at Blog.US.PlayStation.Com has the answers to all of those, as well as some I didn’t know I had (For instance, there is no block button).

As for the story, Boon was tight-lipped, but did mention that it will “offer a deep, elaborate story experience.” He also dodged some questions about Clark Kent’s behavior, as well as suspiciously side-stepping queries about the role of Kryptonite in the plot. However, Boon was more than forthcoming when it came to the size of the roster, saying, “I think there’s a sweet spot somewhere in the 20s or so.” He also more or less confirmed that there will be DLC additions at some point. The interview ended on a mysterious note, as Boon teased, “If it does well, we would like to see our next step be a non-fighting game, maybe something unique in its own right.”

Injustice: Gods Among Us is scheduled for release in 2013 for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii U.

    LOL @ the picture caption.

For the uninitiated, Nightwing is the original Robin (Dick Grayson) after he stopped being Robin and carved out his own identity.

The inclusion of a blazblue like system is really good as blazblue is one of the few fighters i can actually do the special moves in, now they just need to make a new onw

“as well as some I didn’t know I had (For instance, there is no block button).”

That sort of thing is one reason I find myself actually looking forward to this, even though I wasn’t a big fan of Mortal Kombat 9. Shoryuken.com had an in-depth preview based on what they got to play at E3 (http://shoryuken.com/2012/06/20/shoryuken-e3-injustice-gods-among-us-preview/), and some of the things they pointed out that differ from MK9 make me substantially more interested in this game than I would be if it were just “Mortal Kombat with DC characters.” The big ones being the game using hold back to block instead of a block button, the increased speed of play, and the control scheme, which is actually similar to BlazBlue’s (four buttons: light, medium, and hard attacks, plus one character-unique ability button). That last especially catches my eye, both because I love BlazBlue’s control system and would like to see more fighting games use something like it, and because I found Mortal Kombat’s just weird (one button per limb? Really?).

…okay, I just read that interview with Ed Boon that was linked. Not really much to say, since as you mentioned Ed side-steps a lot of the questions, except that I face-palmed when the interviewer said that “air dashing is a new concept for fighters.” He must not play fighting games outside of Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter or something, because that displays quite a bit of ignorance about the genre.

Yeah, as an Arc System Works fan, the air-dashing thing struck me as strange too.

It’s in more than just ArcSys games though. It’s a staple of the Marvel vs Capcom series (I know for sure that it’s in at least 2 and 3, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were in older titles too), and from what I’ve heard from a friend it was even in the Street Fighter Alpha series before that.

Interesting to hear some DLC Additions, but is it Free DLC Additions or not? Since the general consensus now is “Free DLC or Harada is going to kick you into the stone ages.” If your not going to provide them for free, but we are still going to have to download them to face other players online, its no better than On-Disc DLC, we have to download the data, we have it. But unless you pay extra, you don’t get to use it.

And I hope it is Free DLC. Because 20-ish is a rather small number these days. Or at least go into as much depth Blazblue does with it’s characters and have unique lines for each character when they meet another specific character, and even have some unique Music themes for important matches (Batman VS Nightwing for example.)
