"What do you mean it doesn't star me? I have main character hair!"

Let’s file this one under “If not now, then it’s only a matter of time.” It appears as though Final Fantasy XIII-2 director Motomu Toriyama recently told Japanese gaming magazine Famitsu that Square Enix has “something” to announce concerning the last game’s universe. Of course, it could just be more downloadable content for XIII-2, but the supposed last installment of that was already confirmed.

The safe money is on Final Fantasy XIII-3. The second game ended inconclusively, and SE has made it no secret that they plan on getting their money’s worth from Lightning and friends. While cynicism is an understandable reaction to a third side game in a franchise already spread so thin, you have to take into account the story behind the scenes. FF XIII had an extraordinarily expensive development, and the company has to get enough mileage out of the engine and art assets to justify the expenditures. Couple that with the increasing quality of these games, and it maybe this isn’t such a bad thing after all.

Of course, there is one more possibility. We haven’t seen hide nor hair of Final Fantasy Versus XIII in quite some time. The word on the street was that the game was just going to end up as the fifteenth main game instead of a XIII installment, but it’s certainly possible that Square wants to add another title to increasingly convoluted series of games branded with that unlucky number.

*sniff sniff sniff* I smell a milking cow, I miss Squaresoft, maybe I am nostalgic, but after X-2, everything else has been dull,(thought X was dull but it was fun at least), and the last FF to capture my life was and STILL IS, Final Fantasy VIII(yes the 8th), I still have the game, and I downloaded it from PSN aswell, I logged in over 200 hours in that game, just walking around fighting, taking my time doing the quest, and finding everything, collecting cards(i love that card game, hell the theme song is my ringtone hahahaha)

Well, I certainly wouldn’t mind a XIII-3, but I’d rather they focused on VS XIII.

Are you kidding me? We are looking at another XIII sequel while Versus XIII gets jack all. I’m sorry, but while XIII was not the worst RPG ever made (not the best by a long shot either), this is not the part of the series that I am demanding to see more of. I would rather have a 10-3 that is a self-parody or satire of the franchise than ever see another XIII sequel.

XIII-2 was a really good FF game sullied most by its connection to XIII. It was more or less a return to the way FF should be.

Personally, I will look forward to a XIII-3 the same way I approached 2: “Be cautiously optimistic, wait for the reviews, then figure if you also want to wait until a price drop.”

Oh, and I figured a XIII-3 was probably in the pipe when I heard Serah was the protagonist and saw Lightning was still on the cover. You really didn’t need to see the end to see this one coming.

Hopefully they’ll continue to improve the sub-series if they’re gonna keep milking this dead cow for as long as they can. 13-2 wasn’t the horrendous abomination 13 was, but it’s certainly no where near Square’s goal of surpassing FF7. I certainly don’t see 13-3 accomplishing that either unless they make some huge changes to the game’s style.

But, this is Square Enix, they announce games that’ll never be made all the time. People still believe that KH3 and Versus are real, haha, idiots.

Also do your research KH3 has more chance to be a “thing” than Vs 13 at this point

I don’t have the time or energy to “research” vaporware. I’ll believe Starcraft Ghost is getting a release before KH3 at this point.

          Are you always this cynical?
If KH was in Vaporware they would not be releasing their Handheld titles since its the only thing they can do for being stuck under Vs 13 shadow
Plus i repeat more the idiot who hopes for 13-3 instead of moving forward with other titles but keep eating the scrubs of the man who made 10-2 i am sure he fills you for the kind of person you are

I didn’t really care for 13 and 13-2 had a very mixed reaction, though I never got to play it, so I’m not exactly excited for another direct sequel. By this point, I’m hoping that it either makes enough money to justify finishing and releasing Versus, or it bombs and they move on to the next installment for a fresh start.

This news doesn’t surprise me at all. The ending to FF XIII-2 was so unpleasant and downright depressing, Square-Enix would be mad to leave players on such a sour note.

FF XII-2 sold pretty well, so the demand must be there for a third game …

I hate to be this guy, but why are they screwing around with yet another XIII game when they haven’t given Kingdom Hearts 3 the time of day? I don’t even know why they started working on Versus XIII again or why anyone’s excited for it. It’s been so long since it’s announcement I forgot it even existed.

Wow. Thank you Square-Enix for assisting me in my Final Fantasy addiction recovery. Unlike people in AA who need to fight to stay away from alcohol, you have now actually caused me to look at a possible Final Fantasy title and have a regurge reflex. I am now completely cured. Bless you, Square-Enix. God bless you.

I am literally gonna lose my shit if another goddamn 13 sequel comes along and we get nothing of Type-0 in the west or even a Vs 13 announcement, why the fuck is the creator of 10-2, 13, 13-2, Third Birthday and Front Mission Evolved not to mention co writer for Mindjack on another FF project when we could move on to another game and setting like 15! but no please SQUARE trow more shit on my mouth from a man that inspires himself from FPS like COD to appeal to some people in the west instead of playing WRPGs to appeal to people who play RPG in the goddamn west!! GOD I HATE THAT MAN!

I’ve been watching a Let’s Play of 13-2 and so far the only good parts of the game are Serah acting like a ditz and when they captured a giant robot and named it Gank because it killed everything in combat so fast. The game takes time travel, squanders the possibilities, and instead has you playing connect-the-dots and doing a stupid clock puzzle as filler. The only good character in this series of Final Fantasy is Sazh so they should make 13-3 a prequel about him before he met all those other losers.

Correct me if I’m wrong but there really weren’t many clock puzzles and even then, it’s not like it’s a bad puzzle. I’m curious when Final Fantasy meant grind n grind and removed all concept of thought and effort? Not to say this game took thought but from the way you say that, a puzzle is nothing but filler…Pretty sure puzzles were a staple of the series once upon a time.

Not like this they weren’t. Where puzzles in older FFs were part of the level design and made some sort of sense in 13-2 they whisk you away to a space removed from the rest of the game. How does playing with numbers on a clock (or playing connect-the dots for that matter) solve a time paradox?

I’m not saying it’s not a retarded puzzle. The way it was said though makes it sound like puzzles don’t belong in Final Fantasy in general, that’s all I’m getting at.

If you down-voted the person above me just for saying he/she found 13-2 to be enjoyable…You should be ashamed. That’s not being respectful of one another’s opinions of what’s good and vice-versa.

P.S. Yes, and technically this post is a complaint about someone else’s post not being respectful of another’s opinions of what’s good and vice-versa since that too was a post about not being respectful of another’s opinions of what’s good and vice-versa.

I’m okay with a XIII-3, but I’d like to at least hear something about Versus XIII. Until Versus XIII is made, they should not focus on any other Final Fantay games at all beyond XIII-3, XIV 2.0, the localization of Type-0, the PSP port of III, X HD, and possibly 3DS remakes of V and VI. That’s already quite a load right there, which only goes to prove my point.
