I'm pretty sure I could take snoop dogg in a fight.

Before you dismiss this promotion offhand, remember: this is only the second worse thing you’re going to see today.

If you’ll recall an earlier trailer, this crossover doesn’t stop at a song–the game will feature a Snoop Dogg stage as well. The most important question here is, “Why?” Both the rapper and the series of fighting games are institutions unto themselves, but I can’t imagine their fanbases have that much overlap. To be fair, this isn’t a terrible song, but it is certainly a strange decision to have an American rapper promoting a Japanese fighting game. Personally, I think Mr. Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. should have just asked EA to bring back Def Jam.

Tekken Tag Tournament 2 will be available on October 14th, 2012 on Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.

I really wish they would make another Def Jam fighting game. Just sweep Icon under the rug and focus on putting out a good game that people can be happy to claim as a sequel to FfNY.

I am not that surprised about Snoop Dogg being involved. Since the 1970′s black Americans have had a big fascination with Asian martial arts movies. They were movies that didn’t star White actors, and portrayed an escape from urban life, lots of small theaters in NYC would play kung-fu movies all day for low prices. Wu-Tang Clan is the most obvious example of the influence on rap culture.

Growing up in a black community, all my friends were into fighting games. When I bought my PS1, my first game was Tekken 2 and everyone was playing that.

As for Snoop Dogg, he is one of the few rappers who are known internationally by NAME – Including him can get attention in Japan as well as the USA, between white and black fans as well.

Not only that, but Snoop has been involved in games for a while I remember he made a song for Gran Turismo before, and some other games too.

Anyway- I bet his stage could be really awesome.

Considering Tekken has Giant Pandas, Robots and a Boxing Kangaroo among it’s playable characters. I’m semi disappointed we can’t play as Snoop Dogg and it’s just a stage.

Oh well, we have like 50 characters anyway. And if you don’t want to play on this stage. You don’t HAVE to. It’s not like this is a major part of the game in comparison to, say, Galactic Dance mode in Star Wars Kinect.
