It’s been a fairly polished game with no real release date, but Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet and NCSoft’s newest addition to the MMORPG lineup and sequel to one of the most popular MMO’s in recent history, has finally gotten its bearings. The game is set to be released on August 28th, 2012 in both Europe and North America on the PC platform. Details about the final beta weekend has been made available as well, slating that July 20th weekend will be the stress test weekend to see if the servers will be able to handle the heavy load on release day.
“We’re offering gamers an experience that delivers on the promise of online gaming with a truly social experience in an immense, shared world. After five years of creation, development, and polish, announcing the launch date of Guild Wars 2 is a huge milestone for us, but the thing we’re most looking forward to is seeing gamers from all over the globe explore this world and begin creating their own stories.”
- Mike O’Brien, ArenaNet President
While it’s been a long time coming for a solid release date, it’s also interesting to note that GW2 will only have one more beta a little more than a month before release date, and that only one of the in-game, pre-purchase items is permanent, which strikes me as a little bit of a “Against the norm” kind of move given recent MMO standards. Don’t worry, I’ll mark this day well on every calendar I own for sure.

Some of this information is misleading. They have a continuous closed Beta ongoing, that’s ahead of the builds you see during the BWEs. The BWEs are separate from the closed testing, which, again, is ongoing, now and beyond. The next event isn’t going to be the last bit of testing before release, just the last event . . . a little perk for those that pre-purchased.
As for the bonus items, yeah, we’ll just have to see how that all works out.
Most of the stores in my neck of the woods only order reserved copies, so there’s actually no choice on the matter.
Or just reserve the CE
