Hot on the heel of Microsoft’s Surface reveal, Google has gone and debuted the Nexus 7 tablet. The mobile device will be running the ridiculously named “Jellybean,” or Android 4.1 Operating System, and will come in an 8 GB model ($199) and a 16 GB model ($249.99).
Why should you care? Check out this video of the device playing Sonic the Hedgehog 4: Episode 2 (among other things):
Interestingly, the Nexus 7 won’t just be playing your traditional downloadable and mobile titles. Famitsu has confirmed that some games that used to be PS Vita exclusives will be coming to Google’s tablet and other “NVIDIA Tegra 3 devices.” Among the Vita titles confirmed are Sumioni: Demon Arts (read our review right here) and Orgarhythm, which you may remember from my list of most anticipated PS Vita games.
Is this just more bad news for the Vita, or a sign that all dedicated gaming handhelds will be made obsolete by tablets and smartphones? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.

I’m always for things being multiplatform, so this is not gonna stop me from enjoying the Vita.
Touch screen…. thumbs sticks.
WHY???
I don’t… HOW is that ever a good idea?
Yes the tablet/phone ports of hand-held/console titles have been spectacular with billions sold and fantastic reviews… er.. wait.. no they’ve almost all been huge disasters.
Not going to be holding my breath for Nintendo to throw their hands up and say “Okay, we give up!” while cowering in the shadow of the iPad17. Sony, on the other hand.. well.. at this point making fun of the Vita is just mean.. like picking on the special needs kid who’s missing both their arms and legs.
Beyond that, phones/pads are going to need more than a few low-profile Vita games to start squeezing out the gaming consoles. Save the doomsaying for when Pokemon has an iPad port.
