The boys are back which means that now IT. IS. ON!

Hard as is it may be to believe, this year marks the tenth anniversary of the Ratchet & Clank series. It feels like only yesterday that we were taking to fields of battle, wrench in one hand, gun in another, and robot on our back, for the first time. R&C‘s mix of platforming, puzzles, and gunplay has proven a potent one and its remains a favorite of many, myself included. Now, in addition to the upcoming HD collection of the original classics that started it all, Insomniac Games today has revealed that they are working on a new R&C game that will be sure to set fans hearts aflutter.

Titled Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault, the game will be a download only title released exclusively for PS3 via PSN as part of the tenth anniversary celebrations this year. Not much has been revealed about the game yet but Ted Price, the CEO of Insomniac Games, did dole out the following tidbits:

Ted Price, CEO Insomniac Games
We’ve returned to the series’ classic feel, camera, controls and weapons, while innovating and giving you a whole new way to play. Even better, the addition of online features means you can experience Full Frontal Assault with your friends.

Full Frontal Assault will actually mark the second time Insomniac has gone the download only route with the series. Though in the case of that game, 2008′s Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, the last Lombax was forced to go solo, bereft of his robot buddy, due to various plot reasons. Booty was a fun, if somewhat slight, four hour diversion and it will be interesting to see if FFA can match or even exceed its predecessor. Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault is due out on PS3 via PSN this fall. Stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for continuing coverage of this game and be sure to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

I’ll agree that All 4 One was a bit of a disappointment, but I still think that by the end of the game, it really meant something for the main characters.

I’m looking forward to this game, and I’m glad that it will have a more classic feel to it. Hopefully it sets up the next full retail game.

Can’t wait, I didn’t like the fact that All 4 One is a 4 player game with a fixed camera, as a mostly lone gamer, that turned me off, and decided not to buy a Ratchet & Clank game for the first time in my life because of it.

hopefully, FFA will be good enough to deliver, I enjoyed the “Future” trilogy, and with the HD collection coming soon, it’s gonna be a blast returning back to the original 3, even though I’m kinda disappointed they didn’t add “Ratchet: Deadlocked” to the collection.

So far I’ve only been able to play the two non-PSN Future titles and I’m definitely picking up the HD collection. Hey, the more R&C the merrier.

For me upgrading your weapons over the course of the game is the best part of Ratchet and Clank games so they have to be full length games for that to work right. If FFA is as short as Quest for Booty was I’m going to be very disappointed.
