WILL YOUR SMARTPHONE SURVIVE?

With E3 being so close, it’s time for developers and publishers to hype up their booths and and featured games. In a recent press release, Square Enix has revealed that one of the games that will be shown off at E3 is Final Fantasy Dimensions, a game coming to ios and Android powered devices this summer. While no screen shots have surfaced, Square Enix has made the following statement about the game:

“Drawing upon the roots of the series with such features as beautiful 2D pixel art, job-driven character growth, additional scenarios in which to inherit the jobs of your adventuring companions, and a classic story of light, darkness, and crystals,” the description reads, “FINAL FANTASY DIMENSIONS delivers the best of FINAL FANTASY, retro and fresh alike, directly to your smartphone.”

So, what do you think of this news? Would you be willing to plunk down some change to play a new, retro-style Final Fantasy game (complete with crystals and the old job system on your smart phone or tablet? Blistered thumbs will be sure to follow all the news regarding this title and many others when E3 starts.

Update: While it has not been confirmed, it is likely that this game is actually a port of Final Fantasy Legends: Hikari to Yami no Senshi aka: Final Fantasy Legends: Warriors of Light and Darkness, a game that came out in Japan for mobile devices and was released episodically over the last year. The game had the same logo as Final Fantasy Dimensions and has a similar game play style. If this is the case, then the Japanese trailer below might reveal more about the type of game we are getting.

I’m a retro guy, so this is perfectly relevant to my interest.
