In an interview published today with a Spanish news site by the name of El Mundo, famed game creator Shigeru Miyamoto stated that the first Mario game for the Wii U would be revealed at this year’s E3. The comment was then confirmed by a Nintendo representative via Eurogamer. The website also provided a full English translation of the relevant passage from the Miyamoto interview:
The creator advances that at the next E3, the biggest video games show, which is celebrated in Los Angeles in June, Nintendo will present a new Super Mario for this platform, in which you will combine the TV screen with the screen in the controller.
During the interview, Miyamoto also had the following to say regarding what other projects were currently taking up his time:
Of course, the fact that the Wii U has a new Mario game in development should be about surprising as the fact that water is wet. Look at the effect the world’s most badass plumber has had on 3DS sales alone after all. Still, just because the game’s existence is obvious does not make the idea of the upcoming reveal any less exciting. After all, Mario has often been the series where Nintendo really cuts loose and shows off the best of their game design, and then there is the element of the Wii U’s new controller to consider as well. Just one more reason to get excited for this year’s E3. I’m not a Mario fan as much as I am a Zelda fan, but I might get this at launch, since I got Super Mario Galaxy with the Wii.
And this time they bring back the frog suit.
Dear Luigi no!
Yay! New Pikmen!
Who says Nintendo doesn’t have new ideas?
I’ll throw my guess at New Super Mario Bros. Wii U. Hopefully though they will use said game to show off the pontential of the Wii U’s Graphics engine.
Pikmin Wii U sounds interesting though. Lets hope it happens.
Still wondering how much that controller will cost because I can tell you kids will likely break that thing.
