So he complains about the graphics of The Last Story saying it has terrible graphics even it was an early PS2 game yet he says that these graphics are okay. Probably just his obsession with Berzerk clouding his judgement but still makes no sense.
I dug through every bargain bin at game shops and book stores I went to when I lived around Tokyo and could never find this game. I found and bought lots of different Wizardry titles for PS2 but this was one of the titles I always really wanted to play. I was pretty dissapointed when they had never translated and sent this to the states. Maybe at that time it was really rare to get Manga/Anime related games sent to the the west. It really was at the beggining of the western Anime boom so I think we just missed it.
Anyway, thanks for showing it off.
A quick run down of a few things from Berserk:
Apostles- The names for what we consider demons, usually created by the God hand, a group of beings that use to be human who may actually work for god.
Why can Guts carry swords like that?- He as a kid trained with adult sized swords, as he grew older he had custom swords either forged or obtained them from various sources to that are to scale of a child holding a adult sized sword.
What’s with his right eye- Durng the flash back sequence he has it poked out by a demon who’s holding him down.
Why does that big demon dude only have one horn- The big guy’s name is Zodd the Immortal or Nosferatu Zodd, as he’s an “Immortal” demon. Griffith, the pretty dude who is now basically a Demi-god, attacked Zodd after Zodd got in his way and was able to cut off his horn in one blow. Zodd submitted to Griffith and joins him.
What’s up with the Fairy- Elf, yep that’s an elf in this universe, his name is Puck, he tags along with Guts because guts saved his life. He’s helpful because of his healing so Guts puts up with his jokes.
If you want to read the series RIGHT UP TO THE NEWEST CHAPTER check out Spectrum nexus
Please do the full game man.
Benz….You are now my favorite LPer on the internet
I watch Maximilian I watch a few other people but the fact you’re the first one I’ve seen pick up berserk and (even if you like the anime more) already try to dive into this head first like this in such great quality
I havent read any of the manga, but Ive seen the tv series. I have to say I was disapointed to hear your opinion about it. Yes I understand that it may be a little different than the manga, but dispie that, its still an awesome series. I watched it with no knowledge of the manga and I loved it. Its one of my fav shows.
He was a bit harsh on it but the anime as in it self is not good enough. The depth of the story comes from the first arc with the band of the hawks rise and fall and in that sense the anime is a decent visual adaptation.
I started with the anime and loved it then I realised it was not going to continue telling the story from the “eclipse” and I started reading the manga. I skipped a lot from the beginning which was a mistake since the anime told many things wrong.
For example right after they rescued Griffiths they encounter an apostle that Guts have to take out without the Dragonslayer. Take my word for it, that fight is freaking epic. Then there is decision not to include Skullknight which is just wrong. What where they thinking?
TL;DR
I get that you liked the anime but the manga is the superior medium.
The manga is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo f88888888888888888888888 gooooooooooooood
Well, this LP brings me memories. My FIRST introduction to Berserk was in the Sword of the Berserk game for Dreamcast. I didn’t even know it was based on a manga. It was just one of my many games I had for the console. It was one of my favorites, though, but my copy always froze somewhere in the second stage.
Then one day I bought the first issue of Berserk in a magazine stand, and didn’t take long to recognize the story and characters. At first I thought the manga was based on the game. Hah.
Well, this certainly has been a good video. Berserk and One Piece are my favorite mangas, bar none. It’s so bad One Piece never really got a decent game out of it, or that its publication in my country plain sucked. The translation, usually top-notch for mangas here, was horrible and the anime was just the 4Kids version further corrupted by going through another censor barrier. The dubbers were very good, actually, but it was still the 4kids version… so…
As for the Berserk anime, it is simply a legend around here. I’ve never even found someone who had VHS tapes of it. The best I came close to it were clips on Youtube. Still, I could see already it didn’t make the manga justice, so maybe it is for the better. Heck, our censors would have a heart-attack if they ever saw a “cartoon” like Berserk. We’re even more backwards than the US…
I’ll have to check back in later. Looking forward to seeing how they updated Evil Otto and the robots’ voices. Although I wonder why that guy has a sword and not a gun. I mean, what other game could it be, right?
(Come on, I’m the only one who thought of that game?)
Did I hear right that you called Caska “whore”? If so then thats weird way to call some one who was raped.
I’ve actually imported and LP’d this game, myself. It really is fantastic. The best part is that if you’ve read the manga, then, Charles’s story aside, you don’t even need a translation for the game, because you know what’s going on!
One more thing, There were talks about a Capcom vs Sammy game for a long time (and Im a HUGE Guilty Gear fan) but was really hoping that Guts would be in the Capcom vs Sammy game. But I don’t think thats happening anymore
I haven’t watched the videos yet, But I did import this game for PS2 back in the day and beat the shit out of it.
I was disappointed with the Zodd fight in the game, but then I fought him in the challenges (Challenge #10 if I recall) And I don’t think I ever beat that fight, I tried and got close but you make one mistake there and you were a goner.
I truly did love this game and was glad I imported it

I approve of this video and assume all your posts will be Berserk related from now on. Do not disappoint me. “Blond bitch” name is Farnese and I am not sure what her pay of will be. She is there to make the other characters look good I guess.
I own this game and love it, but man, the boss fights like Zodd are TOUGH AS NAILS.
Like some of them are hard enough to throw your controller and ignore it for months if not years.
Not that “I would do that…” lol..
GRIIIIIIFFIIITH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I would say that the orgy scenes in Berserk are not so much inspired by the scene in Conan as in the Templar confessions and other medieval sources, complete with Goat-headed hereisarch.
What makes Berserk interesting is just how much it references medieval art and culture, and doesn’t spare us the unpleasantries of the period, and by doing so ironically giving us a far more realistic depiction of it’s period than Vinland Saga, who just depict vikings as dumb brutes and christians as saints, erasing all negative aspects of the christians all the positive from the pagans.
Springboard player is one of the worst web players in existence.Sorry.
Where’s your cred Ben, you should be playing the Dreamcast version
Really awesome let’s play, I love Berserk and kinda wish Miura would stop taking so many breaks from it! I really wish this game made it to the states, i have a terrible time stumbling through games in japanese.
Ugh… screw Springboard, at least Blip and Youtube work properly.
You’re kidding, right? Out of those three, Springboard is the only one that hasn’t given me any problems so far. Blip tends to freeze after the advertisement and requires me to reload the page and watch the advert again. And YouTube, dear lord, don’t even get me started on that piece of shit.
Wait, no dragons in Berserk? I thought the blacksmith who made the sword said there were dragons but anyone who would ever kill a dragon would become cursed and hunted by all the dragons in the world. Griifith also has that one general who turns into a dragon apostle but I’m not sure if he counts.
In any case, this is a solid game thought the bonuses are kind of weird (like being able to use Puck’s weapon)
There are tons of mythological creatures in Berserk especially later on. I’m pretty positive there were never any Dragons.
On the gameplay. This game had tons of potential to be amazing but the controls from what i remember were very bad. Not unplayable but really bad.
The new Fist of the North Star game had the right idea on how a game of the manga should be. It fell a bit flat but was still had a lot of heart of the original source material. If they ever do make a new Berserk game I just hope it is something similar.
Weeeeelll, I think it should be mentioned there is one dragon in Berserk and it’s Grunbeld’s apostle form. Maybe not a true dragon in all sense of the term but he is called a dragon so I’ll go with it.
There’s one dragon…sort of. This “dragon” is actually in this game.
The blacksmith only said that as a metaphor, like Nietzsche’s old “He who fights monsters” quote. Whoever scanlated that chapter wasn’t exactly good at English or Japanese. The Dragon Slayer was only meant for killing a theoretical dragon, until Grunbeld showed up much, much later.
