Oh, btw you can play the very first game in the series called Mr. Goemon. It’s actually a dowloadable title on Xbox Live Arcade’s Game Room, and it’s super cheap. It’s worth checking out as a 2D side-scroller with issues, but if you get bored with it you can always play Jackal instead… which is always awesome!

So… Nobunaga outlawed a fighting force that did not exist? Ninjas are well-documented. They existed, they often sold themselves out as mercenaries, and were at one point outlawed. Nobody knows for sure when they started, but when they became public agents for hire for whatever shogun needed them, they were known. What’s next, the Berserkers were a myth? Spartans never existed, and Frank Miller made them up to sell comics? Who even told you that ninja didn’t exist?

I really don’t get the whole “ninja never existed thing” They did exist… They were called Shinobi and were specialized in Assassination. Ninja actually have quite a bit of culture to them as most of their weapons used were derived from ordinary farm tools altered a bit to protect themselves from the much more better armed Samurai. For the most part Ninjas were organized from the common people and not hired government Assassins… However some where and some were also fallen samurai that lost their house. Goemon, is suppose to be one of these people, a samurai that lost his house. It is one of the many interpretations of the story. Is the Ninja’s never existed suppose to be a running joke? because its pretty wrong… Now the term “ninja” itself comes from the fact that many Shinobi were trained in Ninjutsu and unconventional warfare Something “the common people” in Asian history have easy access of learning.

Nice video, but your kind of humor works best when you don’t have to explain half of the jokes.

While I do like the American SNES and N64 games, the Gameboy title we got… wasn’t very good at all. Anyway, this is still one of my avorite series, and I wish Konami would bring it back! Working Designs almost brought the PS2 game over, and while it was similar to the N64 game it was a bit more serious in tone like some of it’s spin off series.

Wait… Ebisumaru is a girl?! That’s all kinds of weird.

Why do you keep showing text that says ninjas don’t exist? There is far more evidence to suggest that they existed in some sense rather than not at all… or is that a joke too? Ninjutsu type skills are still taught and are passed down to this day, and there are countless references to shinobi in ancient Japanese manuscripts. They even fought in groups on in fierce raids infiltrating castles and helping to destroy them from within.

This was a pretty sweet video, and I really got a kick out of the end! I don’t know what was up with that audience, though. :-P

It’s a shame that Ganbare Goemon didn’t get a lot of love outside Japan, though the games we did get localized were pretty awesome (Mystical Ninja on N64 is my all-around favorite).

It is Mystical Ninja right? Not Mystic Ninjas? It’s been forever since I last played that game on my N64 and for some reason, my brain wants to remember it as Mystic Ninjas. Anyway, good video Justin! I kinda wished you had better lighting, I could hardly see you and I heard a lot of feedback from the projector, but hey, it was your first live episode so I know you’ll do much better if you ever decide to do future live YCPTs.

Yeah, it’s definitely Mystical Ninja. I’ve played it on the N64, myself, and it’s a blast. :-D
