I realize that this is a bit late, but great review Jew Wario. You made me consider picking this up – and I don’t care that much for Pepsi or many action games.

I have a question for you (sorry if you’ve already mentioned this – if so, please ignore me): Where do you get your gaming gear for playing imports? I’ve looked for that card you use in this video and can’t find anything like it. I think a discussion of the gear would be a good subject for a video in the future.

Thanks for the episode and the whole show.

Man, if Pepsiman was real, he’d kinda screw over Pepsi.

    “I’m thirsty”

    “Here’s a free pepsi”

As much of a cash-in as it is, I still kinda want to play Pepsiman. If only because the gameplay seems so different from USUAL mascot-cash in games, who are almost always platformers. A running game might be a fun change of pace.

I always dig these Japanese Game Reviews and kinda makes you question why wasn’t this game sent overseas when it clearly could have.

Oh one more thing before I forget, this is to both Kamen Rider fans and Super Sentai fans. On April 21st in Japanese Theaters both series will cross over titled Kamen Rider x Super Sentai: Super Hero Taisen it features 50 Riders and 173 Super Sentai be sure to check out the trailer which I’ll provide below.

ZOMG! you reviewed Pepsiman!! I love this game! :D

Fun Fact: this game was big in Saudi Arabia thanks to piracy, and it’s still considered a PS1 classic.

You make a good point Jew Wario. And I’m sure this video will be looked back on as well made.

It is kinda sad how some people tend to value nostalgia so much, they’d tout an advert game as good, even if it’s bad. It’s funny how pervasive nostalgia goggles can be. You don’t even realize that your nostalgia for being young makes you want things that are kinda related to something that you liked–or at least something that was advertised to like in a separate culture that you liked the games of as a kid–just to remember what it feels like to be a kid.

I HATE the “Pepsi Throwback” name because it’s too similar to Pepsi Throwup/Pepsi Backwash.

    That MarzGurl singing? Not bad.

I,too, love the shit out of Pepsi Throwback.

ProTip for those that don’t know already: About a week before passover beings on April 6, grocery stores (especially ones with large kosher sections) sell Coca Cola that uses Cane Sugar instead of High Fructose Corn Syrup. It’s awesome. They’re only available in 2-liters AFAIK. Just look for the cokes that have a YELLOW bottlecap, and you’re in business. I usually buy 8 to 10 to stock up for the next several months. Of course, you can always buy the glass bottles that pop up in random stores that are from Mexico, but they don’t taste anywhere near as good.

Huh? I never heard of Pepsiman, but I did play Cool Spot (7UP’s mascot) on my computer years ago. It was fun to play.

I find advergames to be a “simple” fun. Yo Noid, Chex Quest and Yaris are not the best games by any stretch, but still are fun for an occasional play. (The Japanese version of Yo Noid, Kamen no Ninja Hanamaru, wasn’t an advergame; then again, most people consider it a better game.)

For some reason, I wish I could try Azuki Pepsi. I know it wouldn’t do very well over here in the US, though.

You know, this game reminds me of those Burger King games starring the Burger King – not because of gameplay or anything, but in general concept. They’re cheap product placement cash-ins, but at the same time, they’re so goofy that you can’t help but love them.
