So what is Kusoge Club I hear you ask? “Kusoge” is the Japanese term for terrible video games: “Kuso” meaning Crap/Shit and “ge” being an abbreviation of Game/Games.

Each episode, Guru Larry will be joined by a special guest in the video gaming industry (including some big names coming up!!!) where they savour the worst video games in history and decide if they are deemed worthy enough to become a member of the kusoge club.

This week Guru Larry and British TV Presenter, Ian Higton take a look at one of the worst games of this generation, Raven Squad. A terrible attempt to merge the genres of FPS and RTS, but failing miserably on both accounts with dodgy gameplay and quite possibly some of the worst voice acting in a video game for years!

So sit back and enjoy Ian and Larry ripping apart one of the worst FPSes ever made.

    Speaking for GamingExcellence:

I’m sure your response to this comment will be something like hur-hur-hur “I’m just taking the piss” or hur-hur “u mad bro” but as a text based site how does our “respect in the gaming industry” have to do with Youtube? We just started the channel as an actual platform for original content a few months back so I’d be honestly shocked if we had any attention at all on it. If we weren’t a respected site we wouldn’t be getting invited to press events like the Darksiders II event we just covered (once the embargo lifts).

If you want to talk about journalistic integrity maybe you should look and see what that award was given for. Ya know, do a little research before mocking people. It was given at E3 ’09 for a preview of the game. You know those things where you get ten minutes to play a game and then do a write up? The preview was deemed as having enough promise to be taken note of so it was nominated. That’s it.

But because the nomination placards we handed out said BEST OF E3 in big letters that’s what got slapped on the box art while they conveniently cut off the “Runner Up” part. Our Best of E3 award that year was Splinter Cell Conviction and the genre it was actually nominated for (I think was RTS as the guy at the booth said there was going to be a larger focus on RTS than FPS in Raven Squad), had Ruse as its Best of award given (which was another oversight in my opinion but that’s another story).

I’m not the guy that wrote it (thankfully) but if you’re going to mock us for having our name on the box, a ridiculously sore black eye for the site, at least get the information right and don’t be a petty jerkass about it. I can take it on the chin for the site when its deserved and accurate but that’s just low class and poorly informed. Hell even GameSpot sounded pretty positive in their preview which surprised me enough to stop opposing the nomination of a buggy E3 demo.

The only reason I came to watch this is because I wanted to see the game get mocked for how crappy it was so we’re pretty aware how crap it actually turned out. You live and you learn.

This is hardly “the worst” FPS on 360. The one about the Nazi invasion (can’t even remember the name) is by and large the worst. This game obviously had an ambitious concept, but the execution…leaves a lot to be desired. Sometimes an unpolished or even can plain bad game can manage to be fun (Darkest Hour is a perfect example of that),but most of the times a bad game is just bad.

I never referred to it as “the worst”, I said “one of the worst”. Saying something is the worst is subjective and relies only on personal preference and opinion, that or blindly following the acted words of some idiot whose paid to be angry about video games on the Internet for a living.

you mean Turning Point: Fall of Liberty, yes, that is a really really bad game. But I found the game so bad, I enjoyed playing it. It was the intentionally funniest game I’ve played in years. I even reviewed it on TV a few years ago. But as WWII shooters go, I’d say Hour of Victory is worse. (turning point will be a future kusoge club episode BTW)

Raven Squad is just bad in all manners of cases, it’s not even crap enough to be entertaining (aside from the terrible voice acting)

Oh god this was actually the first game I ever reviewed and holy shit it sucked. I couldn’t figure out how to throw a grenade to destroy a barrier in the first mission in the RTS mode for 15 minutes. Then after a fairly easy fight, one guy, Paladin, just had a fucking heart attack and fell over and I had to pick him up and get him to the chopper. What a crappy game. And thank you good sir.

Here is the “brilliant” write up on 411mania.com about Raven Squad. If you ever wanted to claim that video game reviewers are paid off to say nice things about games, this one’s a slam dunk.

    Also, note the terrible writing!

“If you’ve ever wanted to experience both the omnipotent feeling that is playing God from afar via a real time strategy game and the heroism that comes with most modern FPS games, then South Peak has your back with Raven Squad, a game that lets you play it as an RTS game and/or an FPS game.

In game environments are both gorgeous and tense thanks to a combination of accurate lighting and top-tier graphics. The FPS mode handles real easily, kind of like Call of Duty. Unlike, Call of Duty though, one or two stray shots won’t kill you and you can gather your bearings and return fire with a rather alarming accuracy and speed. Whether you’re a beginner or an FPS maven, you’ll love this.

While Raven Squad is very easily a great shooter, Raven Squad’s RTS mode is what will have you coming back for more goodness. Whether you need to go from point A to point B or orchestrate a full scale assault, the RTS mode allows for a lot of options and freedom, which make it great for RTS virgins, like myself. The game’s RTS mode is easily to use and doesn’t overwhelm players, which is why I think I like it so much!

Lastly, I think I need to address something on everyone’s mind right now, is there any lag in switching between modes, any drawback at all? Nope. You can change modes as you like, whenever you want with the push of a Y button.

So there you have it, two games in one, both with style, comfort and lots to offer to both the casual and hardcore gamer. You want this game.”

Runner up was given to Section 8, which is a MUCH more polished budget title!

This is what I could find at Gaming Excellence.

    gamingexcellence.com/xbox360/games/2234/p20090627.shtml

    The Metacritic score? 38.

Unfortunately 411mania is a great example of reviewers who sacrifice integrity to get noticed. Their wrestling content isn’t that bad, seeing as how that’s the main focus of the site, but their reviews are just bad most of the time. Their previews are often 100 words, tops, even when the content justifies far more. When we saw it was us and them on the box we got woefully depressed.

I may have a copy of that somewhere, but it may be worth doing soon! We’re sort of concentrating on this gen and online-able games ATM, which is a little frustrating as there’s a bunch of Wii shovelware games we want to do.

Oh, we’ve bought several copies of Mind Jack (mainly as they’re unbelievably cheap!) and that’ll 100% be a game in the next 3-4 episodes!

I rented that P.O.S “game” Mindcack last year..on the PS3 some of the A.I problems were patched but nothing can fix that broken sorry mess of a game.
