kenshin from mortal kombat can sense spyro’s derp face.

Skylanders: Spyro’s Adventure raised quite a few eyebrows (and hackles) with its business model, as it combined video games and toys into one expensive bundle. However, the game was a critical and financial success, so Activision is taking that ball and running with it all the way to a sequel.

I’ll spare you the spiel about Activision’s history of over-saturation–Tony Hawk, Guitar Hero, etc.–and skip to the part where this is actually pretty good news. By all accounts, Skylanders resonated with a lot of kids, and was probably the best game featuring Spyro the Dragon to come out in quite some time. Also, the fact that the toys from the first game will still work in Skylanders Giants is more than I was expecting. I don’t know what it says about the industry that I’m pleasantly surprised no one is getting ripped off, but there you go.

Official Description
Boom! The magic continues this Fall with Skylanders Giants, the thrilling sequel to Skylanders Spyro’s Adventure. Bigger thrills, bigger challenges and bigger fun await you and your army of Skylanders. All toys available now will work in the new game with their upgrades and powers intact!

Skylanders Giants will be available “this Fall,” presumably for the same systems as the original (all of them).

I’m sure my little brother will be ecstatic out about this, I’m just glad the original game itself was decent as will this one for when he wants me to play with them.

Good thing this is getting released lol. They haven’t even finished releasing all of the toys from the first game.

I actually really like Skylanders. I’m just glad there is a game besides Lego for kids that is actually very fun to play. The game is obviously popular too, as the toys always seem to be sold out when I go to the store. This game was just a good idea.

I’m interested in what new characters they come up with. Cute toys and video games… my weaknesses.

Now, if only they can kill off Spyro, so he can finally rest in peace alongside Crash Bandicoot.

Well, at least parents won’t have to shell out $400 for inaction figures AGAIN… maybe…
