Look who is back… And he has got some new tricks to boot.

Poke-fans take note: one of the first legendary Pokemon will soon be available for download to Pokemon Black and White and Blistered Thumbs has all the info you need.

Thanks to a great character design, several appearances outside of the main Pokemon games (including both the first animated movie and OVA that the series ever received and a memorable inclusion in the Super Smash Bro. Melee roster), and an overall bad-ass demeanor and power-set, Mewtwo remains one of the most recognizable and popular legendary Pokemon ever featured in series. And now Nintendo is giving owners another shot to get their hands on this one of a kind psychic-type Pokemon but only for a limited time.

From February 12 through February 26, players with a copy of either the Black or White editions of Pokemon (and less than 11 wonder cards) can log onto the Nintendo WFC service via a wireless internet connection and download a revamped version of the classic legendary physic Pokemon. To acquire Mewtwo, players will need to begin their game and select “Mystery Gift” from the main menu and click “Receive Gift,” then “Yes” to open a communication channel. Once this is done, select “Get Via Nintendo WFC,” then “Yes” again.

Mewtwo in action.

This version of Mewtwo will be level 70 and feature three moves: Shadow Ball (a Ghost-type move), Electro Ball (a move Mewtwo normally cannot learn), and Psystrike (an exclusive move that was created especially for Mewtwo as his new signature attack). Mewtwo will also be equipped with a King’s Rock and a special exclusive Premier Ribbon that cannot be collected any other way beyond this download.

Though Nintendo releasing exclusive Pokemon via limited time promotions and the Wi-Fi mystery gift function is nothing new, it is worth noting that in the past they have always done so in conjunction with a major retailer such as Toys R Us or Gamestop and required players to visit a nearby location of said retailer in order to download the Pokemon. It seems likely then that this is one more example of the company’s new increasing focus and support of online functionality, though I doubt we have seen the last of retail exclusives altogether. The Mewtwo also release seems to be part of a larger celebration of the Pokemon that Nintendo is holding and more about which those interested can find out via the link below. Stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for any further Poke-news and be sure to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

The only thing scarier than Mewtwo is Ho-Oh.

Brave Bird resist? No. One does not simply resist Brave Bird.

Oh, it gets Regenerator as it’s new dream world ability. !@#$ hell.

At least it’s less difficult to access than limited time retail support and the like.

YES! This is how Nintendo should handle getting these pokemon.

Let me tell you guys I just got Arceus (he’s still available now I think) from the “dream world” in Pokemon Black and White and let me tell you what a horrible, overly complicated, piece of trash that whole process is.

Hated it. It discolored my perception of this generation of pokemon. D:<

Remember back in Gen 1, where everything was horribly unbalanced and One Mewtwo could rip through almost anything due to it’s stupidly high Special Stat, very good speed and the only types it was weak to just flat out sucked? Yeah, Mewtwo was terrifying back then.

And even with proper rebalancing of types, the special split and new types to counter psychics. Mewtwo is still is very very strong to this day. Sorta a testament to this things power. 15 years and counting.

Ahh, Gen 1. When pokemon wasn’t burdened by a bunch of needless garbage that had nothing to do with the core game experience.

Ahh Mewtwo, the power house psychic type. Forcing countless Pokemon teams to revenge kill it or face utter defeat.
