hopefully the battery life lasts a bit longer.

The ESRB has rated a pair of classic Game Gear titles “E for Everyone” today. Those titles are, apparently, coming out on the 3DS soon.

The two titles in question, Sonic the Hedgehog Triple Trouble, and Shinobi, are the first of what may be several Game Gear titles to come onto the Nintendo handheld system. For those who don’t know, the Sega Game Gear was Sega’s first foray into the handheld market, back in 1990 in Japan. Around 390 titles would be released over the consoles lifetime, until Sega dropped support for it in 1997. Despite only managing a fraction of the sales that the Game Boy had during the 1990s, along with a pathetic battery life, the Sega Game Gear was one of the first major attempts at usurping Nintendo in the handheld sphere.

No word on when these titles shall be released on the 3DS, but stay tuned for an announcement involving the titles from Nintendo.

“the Sega Game Gear was one of the first major attempts at usurping Nintendo in the handheld sphere.”

That no-one’s managed to even come close to since. Proving it’s always about the quality of the games not the visuals eh PSP/Vita/GameGear/Nomad?

This is great news indeed. I really loved these games as a kid. I just hope that they plan to release GG Shinobi 2, cause that game was amazing.
