Back for more?? Hehehehehe…

GOG.com today has another great re-release for old school PC gamers to enjoy; this time though were back for more with The 7th Guest!

For those not in the know, The 7th Guest, along with another well known PC game called Myst, were the first wave of CD-ROM only titles to be released on the computer back in 1993. Both games were immensely popular, earning millions in sales and are pretty much responsible for the CD only craze that occurred after the fact. So successful was this game, that Bill Gates boldly claimed it to be “the new standard of interactive entertainment.”

It has been almost 20 years since we last saw it for sale on PC, but thankfully GOG is celebrating this fact by putting it on sale immediately. From now until February 11th, you can pick up The 7th Guest for only $7.99. You better make sure to have your wits about you and DOSbox ready though, and also be aware that it is one of the first FMV games, but don’t let this deter you from one of the most challenging puzzle games of all time.

Oh man, I remember watching my sister play this when we visited her at college all those years ago. I’ll have to check it out for myself soon.

One of my all time faves. I still have this game on CD and just finished a game of it not too long ago. As I recall, the difficulty of the game of what is essentially a modified version of Othello that you play against Stauf in the lab, under the microscope, is dependent upon the speed of the computer the game is being run on. And it definitely showed, as it took me several hours to beat it on my newer PC. Never took me more than a few tries back in the day. Just something for anyone thinking about picking this up to look out for.

Still have nightmares of the Can puzzle. Took forever to get past that. (think the bishop puzzle was pretty rough too unless that one was in 11h)

I sometimes whip out the placing 8 queens on a chessboard as a challenge question.

Nice that GoG finally got it, though I picked up the iOS release awhile ago. Trilobyte is back from the dead and is working (on last update, anyway) on porting their stuff to iOS and there was talk of an official third game in the T7G series in the works.

    Finally!
I remember the time when I first tried the game out… at the age of 6 or so. Dark places weren’t something I was fond of for quite a while afterwards.

Anyone ever seen the walkthrough for this game? I found it in a used book store a few years back. It’s this huge paper-back and it basically reads like a story but it also has solutions to puzzles :p I have never seen a walkthrough like that before or since.
