A sequel to the cult hit 2010 title 999 was released in Japan earlier this week and now comes good news for fans of the series living in the US.
999: Nine Hours, Nine Persons, Nine Doors was a brilliant visual novel/puzzle game hybrid released on the Nintendo DS in the states back in 2010. Published here by Aksys Games, it quickly became something of a cult hit, eventually selling well enough for Aksys to announce a second printing for the title. Now comes word today from Aksys that they will will also be publishing the sequel to 999 (released earlier this week for the 3DS in Japan under a title that roughly translates to Extreme Escape Adventure: Good People Die) in North America. Much as with the first game, EEE:GPD centers around nine people who find themselves caught in a deadly contest known as the Nonary Game which forces those involved to earn points by solving devious puzzles and working together even while the threat of betrayal awaits at any moment. While details about the release still remain scarce, with even the game’s official English title having yet to be revealed, it has been confirmed that EEE:GPD will be reaching North American shores before the end of this year. Stay tuned to Blistered Thumbs for continuing coverage of the game as more information becomes available and be sure to share your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Awesome I loved the story of the first game so I am definetly going to buy this one.
I’d hope they’d drop the first part of the title. “Good People Die” would sound a lot better.
Even more of a reason to get a 3DS now!
Definitely getting this as soon as it’s available. Hope this does well enough that maybe Aksys will license the Infinity series as well. Of course if this becomes a full fledged series, I wonder how much debate amongst fans will there be if this new series takes place in the same universe as the Infinity series after all…
AWESOME.
999 has one of the best plots I have ever encountered in a game, and I can’t wait to see what the sequel has in store. I would suggest playing the previous game to anybody (that is, anybody who is old enough to play an M rated game).
Now to wait for it to be available for pre-order.
Hopefully it’ll be available for Vita too, for those who have that instead of a 3DS.
I am so making this a day one purchase
I knew it. You really think they’d let a game that went through three shipments just go right along and ignore the spin-off sequel? And it’s multiplatform, too. Granted, the Vita is basically brand new and the 3DS still has to get its wings, but honestly, this was a no-brainer.
Never heard of it.
Why was this necessary for you to mention?
Then by all means get 999 and see what you think. It’s an excellent game from the writer of Ever 17 himself (check my review if you don’t know what that is)
