In the world of Tyria, 250 years after the players defeat the Great Destroyer in the Eye of the North expansion, five elder dragons sleeping beneath the continent have awoken, causing widespread destruction to Tyria and corrupting its inhabitants. The once dominant humans of Tyria are in decline, supplanted from most of their land by disasters and war, and the dwarves are all but extinct. Old and new races alike have begun to rise in the resulting power vacuum. Old cities have been destroyed and rebuilt, kingdoms seized and reformed by new rulers. The continents of Cantha and Elona, introduced in separate stand-alone campaigns, have been cut off by politics and the dragons. The advancement of time is reflected in the changes in culture, including armor and clothing, as well as in the advancement of in-game technology and a unified common language.

Guild Wars 2, ArenaNet’s heavily anticipated next-gen MMO title, is set to smash into the market with the force an nameless angry gaming god. However before it can hit store shelves and our salivating palettes, it has to go through the rigors of testing, and according to Mike O’Brien, ArenaNet’s Founder and President, you might well soon be seeing a lot more hands-on impressions here at Blistered Thumbs and beyond…
Keeping their waiting public informed through it’s blog on their website, ArenaNet recently posted both the conclusion of their “first” tests, and that in February they will be extending invitations to gaming sites around the net to partake in the feast of content available before launch. Also on the docket for March and April is the opening of testing to their customers at large. This can only mean one thing…
Unlike most other beta tests I could name, the media at large is going to get a chance to see the game up close and personal and in great detail before the release of a general invitation-test to the general consumer. One can only assume ArenaNet will use this to allow sites to show off their graphics, features and actual gameplay rather than simply allowing a non-descriptive editorial piece to be put in place as to avoid an Non Disclosure Agreement breach.

Hey guild master!
So, I take it you might be getting this game as well? I’m not too familiar with the Guild Wars series but this game has really intrigued me from what I’ve seen. Since there’s no monthly subscription I’ll play this AND Old Republic with you and the rest of Blistered Thumbs if that’s what’s going to happen.
Well the first beta tests started officialy at the endo of December (it was announced at their IAMA on reddit).
When they become available, it would be appreciated if BT employees can nab a bunch of beta keys and pass them out among BT users (assuming ArenaNet gives them to you). Y’know, like you guys did with Rusty Hearts. I’m really interested in this game and I, for one, would really love to get in on a beta test to try it out.
I really hope the people here at Blistered Thumbs get in on the Beta! This is the one MMO I’m seriously looking forward to playing, and I can’t wait to see your impressions of the nearly finished product.
