This isn’t the first time a Mega Ten game has used foretold death as a plot device (the Midnight Channel, anyone?), but this teaser for the upcoming DS sequel to Devil Survivor made me think of the Final Destination series of films before any game in the Atlus oeuvre.
While a Megami Tensei trailer without any demons or personae is a pretty vague one, we always have the official Atlus description to make sense of what we watched. Here it is:
Official Description
What would you do if you could see others’ deaths before they come to pass? A mysterious website—Nicaea—will show you just this. What you do with the information will determine the fate of thousands as calamity strikes Japan…
According to Atlus, Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2 will be “available February 2012 for Nintendo DS.”

Well the midnight channel did not predict who would die next but I won’t say anymore just to avoid major spoilers. In all honesty its more like the first Devil Survivor in which the main characters received predictions on what would happen during each day and you can work to change the outcome of course the only people who receive this email are the MC, Atsuro, and Yuzu of course its origin is mostly unknown iit is hinted that Nayoa may have made it but it is highly unlikely but as always with Nayoa he knows more than he leads you to believe. I look forward to checking this game out.
Loved the first one, so I’m am looking forward to this game.
I am so pre-ordering this.
The same plot device was kind of used in P4 with the midnight channel. Still it’s a cool idea to see how the others will die and try and prevent it.
Judging by my experiences with the other Megaten games this looks like it will basically be Final Destination except with demons, better writing, and characters who aren’t insufferable. YAY!
*whistles* Nice. Very interesting concept for a second game. It actually reminds me of Persona 3, and how the opening sequence included lines like “Remember that you are mortal.” and “Remember that you will die.” And they meant that literally, so that last line of the trailer…
Really looking forward to this. The first one is one of the best on the DS, and possibly the best non-Persona SMT game, and Atlus is pretty darn good at keeping their sequels as good as or better than their predecessors. Could easily end up one of my top games of the year if that pattern continues.
Reminds me more of another horror movie, not Final Destination.
