I have a stupid question: I have a Standard Definition TV, and I want to try game reviewing. If I have Red, White, and Yellow cables, will it work with this device? This is because I plan on reviewing games on the Wii.

That’s something I’ve been looking for!!

I’ve been wanting to do my own little bit of reviews here and there, and especially wanted to have a little fun, showing what I do with games like Dance Masters.

Hopefully they’ll have something like this on Newegg, but if I have to make do, I’ll look around to see who’ll be best for having this.

The quality dip at high action scenes has nothnig to do with the hard drive being able to handle the bitrate. You set the constant bitrate which means if the drive could not handle the bitrate the entire video would have been messed up. What I would guess is happening is the bitrate was not quite high enough for the fastest moving quickest changing scenes. The more and faster scenes change the more bitrate is needed to maintain quality. With a constant bitrate set, the only option at this point is to have the quality drop ion those scenes. This is normal encoding behavior. If you were not already set at max auality, then uping it to max wil improve those scenes for sure. If you were at max quality, then you have demonstrated a small limitation of the device.

saying that it can’t record/pass threw 1080p dosen’t matter for consoles sens they render at 720p and just uppscale it to 1080p

as for how long this device will last not long 1-2 years sens then next gen consoles witch will render at 1080p will excist so i would not get somthing like this and rather try and find somthing that dose 1080p

Technically, the PS3 can render in 1080p natively, and I think the 360 can do it too. It’s just easier and cheaper to render in 720p and upscale to 1080p, but I do believe that some games do render 1080p natively.

That is correct, some games on both platforms render 1080p natively.

Yes, but they are few and far between. And nearly all of them are game demos and less graphically intensive indie-type games

Would an external hard-drive that supports both usb 2.0 and 3.0 and about 2 TBs work well with this device?

Some games even render under 720p and then upscale.

Huh, this looks like a good deal. And I spent $190 for the HD PVR that Hauppauge had. And I heard they got a the gaming edition with an extra video game component cable that’s universal to all game consoles.

But this with the same functions as the HD PVR without the use of a PC for usage makes this a greater deal. Though I’m content with my HD PVR, I guess I could save up for this convenient piece of tech.
