Just thought you should know Joe, wrote to my representative Norm Dicks a couple of months back and I just got a reply in my inbox. He tells me he will not be supporting the bill as it is written, and until he is sure it will not undermine fair use.

So you’ll be pleased to know that at least one rep from the state of Washington will not be backing the bill as it is currently written.

Just as a point of awareness. There’s a small movement going on from game designers about SOPA. The ESA (Entertainment Software Association) is backing the SOPA bill. ESA also runs E3. A group of game designers and show producers are calling for a boycott of E3 as long as the ESA is backing the SOPA bill.

this is a damn good thing but there is one more thing that needs to be done. the ESA ( the Electronic Software association ) has placed its support to SOPA. the ESA is “supposed” to represent us, the gaming community. at this point that still is left to be seen. The ESA is the Host of E3 ( the Electronic Entertainment Expo) and makes the bulk of it funding with it. if the

If the ESA refuses to pull its support from SOPA then It would I and many others are calling for a boycott of the E3 for 2012. yes it sucks and yes its not fun but its necessary

for more info please whatch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zU5mt46-nQc&feature=g-all-u&context=G2c4ed94

Please guys this is nessisary for all of us. and angry Joe please don’t cover or attend E3 this year. we have to fully kill SOPA

Obama didn’t explicitly condemn SOPA: this is the trick with modern political jargon. Pragmatist poiticians don’t officially commit themselves to sides until they see which side will garner them the most votes… in this case, Obama never said, “I will not support PIPA, I will not support SOPA.”

Wishful thinking, but if you continue fighting any and all harmful provisions in this bill, it may become reality: all the fickle, cowardly politicians in Washington will firmly side with you if you politically pressure them against violating your individual rights.

    But so far, so good.

We need to keep pushing this issue….make sure SOPA and PIPA are rendered completely useless if not completely dead. So PLEASE please don’t celebrate yet…keep fighting everyone!

It’s not a matter of the government “Adapting to the Digital Age.” Government and military have technology far more advanced than what we civilians have to play with.

It’s a matter of whether government/military want to allow us to have more sophisticated technology to play with. The more power (social/political/technological) that we civilians have, the more the government/military see us as a threat to their own power/authority.

I, too, find it just a bit alarming that Joe kind of wrote off the fact that Obama actually passed that NDAA Military Detention bill; he mentioned it, but kind of dismissed its importance at the same time; that’s just the way it sounded to me, almost as if he’s saying there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it.

To counter what you have to say about Ex-President Bush, his handling of the war in Iraq could’ve definitely been better (like not wasting shittons of taxpayer dollars chasing after nothing), but when someone attacks you on your own soil (9/11) you don’t just sit back and take it, either. Besides, Bush never tried to enact martial law.

It may have been said already, but PLEASE be aware that this isn’t over yet. SOPA is just SHELVED. It’ll most likely be brought back and passed quietly once the hubub dies down. This means it still needs to be pushed into being SCRAPPED! Moreover, PIPA is still out there, and it is, more or less, the same as SOPA, except proposed by the Senate instead of Congress.

This is a big step forward, but we can’t go dismissing this as over yet.

I honestly do not understand why these companies do not realise that they will NEVER be able to stop piracy on the internet, it is a global phenomenon and you will never have global control.

I support piracy purely because films and music gain the majority of there money through the cinema experience for film, and live performance for music, so charging for CD’s and DVD’s is over extortionate in our modern age. And here’s an idea, if corporations want to stop piracy, DO WHAT THEY DO. You’re telling me that if you put up online on a website all your films able to watch FOR FREE that you wouldn’t be able to make you’re money back by having a few advertisements before hand? I know I wouldn’t torrent if that were the case, but I’m also not willing to pay vast amounts of money for outdated technology, DVDs. Get with the 21st century, and fight by making your film and music free.

Piracy will never be able to take away from the cinema experience or the experience of live music which is where a film or musician makes the bulk of there profit. You will lose some money with a website over DVDs, but its better than creating legislation that will only harm the internet and not even counteract piracy.

This is good news for pretty much anyone with a computer. Resist the machine! The change everyone wants won’t come from censoring or opressing consumers, it will come from listening to consumers and being aware of what consumers want. Obviously people don’t want to buy CDs anymore, so instead of persecuting your potential consumers, find a way that allows them to buy your stuff at a reasonable price in a way that is comfortable!

    Rant

Fuck CDs, i don’t want them, on the other hand i bloody LOVE spotify. I have no problem whatsoever forking out my 10 dollars a month for that. Same with movies, i don’t want DVDs, but i could imagine paying a monthly subscription fee to have access to online streaming in decent quality. In fact, that’d be awesome. Same for TV. I don’t particularly feel like paying a load of money and then have to be a slave to my TV or record everything. Let me watch stuff at my own leisure. It’s called “On Demand”, the technolody is here, so just bloody do it already!

I don’t support piracy but i imagine a lot of the people who do it are doing it because it’s just way more comfotable and practical than the legal channels. So get with the f***ing times RIAA/MPAA/whoever, you are only screwing yourself over by acting lke this.

Our punches against the giant are finally starting to have effect, but I’m skeptic about the responses we are getting; I just know that any day now, right before January 18th they will either suddenly for some out of touch reality reason support SOPA and PIPA again and steamroll it through congress before we get to say anything, or then Lamar Smith and his overlords will just add a few new coats of paint over the bad parts of SOPA and PIPA, changing some names and titles here and there but leaving the content entirely the same and this will be enough to fool Judiciary committee and congress, who despite their words don’t ever read what they are going to pass. If they did, we wouldn’t have the Patriot Act.

Or maybe I am proven wrong and both SOPA and PIPA are buried because by the grace of out gold allmighty, the government DOES indeed have a few brain cells that have adapted to the Digial age.

Either way, the fight is far from over. We scored victories and we finally have some room to maneuver, but you can bet that the overlords will not sit idly by and let this insult go unchecked. For they are pettier than children when they can’t have their way.

After all, as Lamar Smith himself said and I quote: “The opposition consists of minor groups and barely legitimate businesses that do not matter.” He may say he will remove the DNS blocking, but remember those words and that nothing he says or decides come from his own soulless mind. His overlords control him, body and soul.

But nonetheless, this is excellent news. Keep up the pressure and we can show the overlords that we matter, we have a voice and it is a LOUD one.

    Until next time.

However gundarks are depicted as having 4 arms and spikes for feet! Don’t know how they got that wrong considering in footage interviews they had the creatures of star wars book on their desk and I know they are in there. . . I geeked out didnt I?

Bush like blunders? Im sorry, I dont recall Obama lying to the American people with so called evidence that Iraq was hiding Osama, and that they were building WMD’s. When in actuality, all he really wanted was their oil fields, essentially turning America into “the bad guys”.

Obama might not be perfect, but to blame him for the majority of the current problems in the States is like getting mad at a cleaning crew because it takes them longer than 5 minutes to clean up after a group of children cover every inch of a large room in their own feces.

I think that’s a general problem with how people percieve politics today though (maybe it always was i’m not sure), a lot of people don’t understand that pushing something through the system and then seeing the actual effects of it can take YEARS. You can’t just put a new president in the white house and expect everything to be changed over night. It takes time, a lot of time.

I’m so glad to hear that politicians are listening! FINALLY. Hopefully, these are the final death throes of these bills. I know we can’t rest easy yet, but this is good news.

Thanks for fighting the good fight, Joe, and keeping us informed. It was really helpful to have your PSA to pass around to friends and family members when they didn’t know what was going on with this.

SOPA is just the tip of the iceberg, as you also referenced the NDAA Bill. He was supposedly completely opposed to and wanting to shut down Guantanamo Bay within his 1st year in Presidency, and now he’s supporting and passing the NDAA Bill, an extension of Guantanamo into the US.

This is the best year to become involved in politics. Why? Because the Republican nominee isn’t decided yet, and if you don’t involve yourself, THIS guy will replace the current two-faced Obama.

    Romney:

Or you can have this guy. Up to all of us, just like with SOPA.

What the “NDAA Bill”? I tried reading about it on Wiki but I still don’t understand.

The NDAA bill is unfortunately a rather complicated matter. It stands for National Defense Authorization Act, and it’s a funding bill that goes through Congress every year and gets passed every year. The main difference is that THIS year, someone tacked on some provisions. These provisions make it possible for American citizens that are suspected of being terrorists to be detained indefinitely, with only the barest military tribunal to act as ‘due process’. As with SOPA and PIPA, the scary thing about this is just how broad and vague the terminology is, as well as the supporter’s argument of “Well if you aren’t [x], then you have nothing to fear from this law.”

Many people were hoping President Obama would veto the NDAA, but unfortunately there was such a majority in Congress that it would be signed into law anyway. I think that, even as a statement against the major overreach, a veto would’ve still been important. Anyway, for anyone who wants more info, here’s the wiki link: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Defense_Authorization_Act_for_Fiscal_Year_2012

Actually the military commission’s act of 2006 already makes it possible for the government to detain you and imprison you without any recourse, no lawyer, no outside contact, and having to prove your /innocence/ to a 3-person military tribunal as long as you are called a terrorist.

No what the recent legislation did is simply allow them to lock you up indefinitely without the military tribunal as long as they label you a terrorist.

Personally I’d like another option but we aren’t to that point yet..almost ready for it but not yet. As for the White House stance indeed actions speak louder than words and the whole snooping on domestic reporters and email gathering schemes worry me that if some parts of SOPA could be shoved into riders on other legislation that wouldn’t receive so much attention. That is my greatest fear that they’ll attempt to smuggle this through piece by piece instead of all at once . So everyone stay vigilant and don’t back down or go quiet.

More than that, it is the White House that actually asked for/added the indefinite incarceration clause. Obama is a lying scumbag, and not merely “I will do this” and then not doing it but, saying “I will do this” and then doing the exact opposite. He said he would abolish the Patriot Act. His first action in the White House? EXPAND the patriot act.

He also said he would put up proper health care. Instead his Obama-care guarantees customers for health-insurance companies, without them having to pay a dime more to the people they’re supposed to be helping pay health-care. Not to mention the whole “women are sweet and we’ll help them!” and “men are icky and can go die” nature of that piece of crap legislation.

Well yes, Joe, there weren’t that many games on December but your schedule on youtube still reads:
Call of Duty: MW 3 Review
Sword of the Stars II Review
Lord of the Rings: WINT Review
    Just Dance 3 Review
    Dance Central 2 Review

And now you’re saying there will be SWTOR next, so too bad those reviews are cancelled because i ‘d hoped that we would get those reviews someday.

*Sigh* Was the Capcom dig really necessary? I mean, Sega is still part of it, Nintendo and Sony were part of it and then have backed out (Sony quite massively I must remember) Not to mention there is still a number of ESA Members like Ubisoft, Square Enix, Konami and Namco that have made no comments. And every company that is being silent might as well be saying yes if they are part of ESA. Just looking for an Easy Target huh?

Still, not sure why Capcom agreed with ESA, they have tried to argue that they don’t support the dangerous parts of SOPA (Tried, they have doubled back saying never claimed to support SOPA, but they agree with ESA Legislative matters, and this is a legislative matter.)

We need to see what will happen. 18th of January is the next hearing day. Keep on fighting. We can’t let the bill pass.

Aww quit your bitching. Capcom deserves every cheap shot being lobbed at them and more for being complete fucktards towards their customers. Really they haven’t been doing anything as of late to fix their ways.

Never heard of it and I take it is for a handheld system. If so then nope. It’s what I call lightning in a bottle. Talk about getting lucky.

Handheld games are as valid as Home Console games, for one thing there are a lot more DS’s in the world than there are Xbox 360′s (Something like 150 million DS’s over 88 Million 360′s)

And You should have heard about Ghost Trick, it was even nominated for some Game of the Year awards in various sites. Hopefully we shall see a sequel to it on the 3DS some day soon.
