Wow it’s very cool to know that Angry Joe, was visting just some miles from my hometown. I’ve passed “Häringe slott” may times before, But now it will always give me a good feeling that Joe was just a little bit away from my hometown “Nynäshamn”!

Looks like this is gonna be the fantasy counterpart to Civ V much like Elemental is the fantasy counterpart to Civ IV. Since Civ IV and Civ V are both rather different from each other, it’s nice to see someone stepping up with a game like this.

The question I keep thinking, with so many games that draw inspiration from older games coming out lately, is “Is it as good or better then the older game?”. And from what little was talked about in that vid it’s already losing to a few titles. For example, Master of Magic has FOURTEEN races.

The rise of sites like GOG.com really puts a splinter in the foots of these titles. Why buy a mainstream revision or independent inferior version when you could get a superior version with more hours and better/deeper gameplay for far cheaper?

I’ll keep an eye on it anyway, but it’s hard to keep enthusiasm. Too many people have been burned by titles like From Dust or Spore.

      1) Just because it’s a “spiritual successor” to the game does not mean its trying to outright copy said game. Warlock takes place in a franchise wholly separate from Master of Magic, which doesn’t have the same number of races running about. Furthermore, “Monsters” and “Undead” encompass numerous races under one banner.

      2) Just because its an older game doesn’t necessarily make it “deeper/better” than a newer one. We don’t even know all the mechanics of Warlock yet, so don’t spout nostalgia elitism just yet.

      3) *insert rant about balancing issues and modern graphical complexities here*

This one looks promising. The ultimate spell victory kind of reminds me of victory by transcendence in Alpha Centauri. Anything that reminds me of Alpha Centauri is a good thing, so I might check it out, especially if you can play as the undead :)

Come to think of it, this would be the first turn based 4X game for me in a very long time. I even missed out on Civilization 5. I think the most recent 4X I played was in fact Alpha Centauri. Either that or Master of Orion II, I don’t remember which came first.

Looks GREAT . Similar to Civ5 but that is not a bad thing as many would think . I trust that these guys will get it right since their other games are pretty damn good .

Hurrah, a Turn Based Strategy game! Might & Magic needs some competition from somebody! It’s a genre that’s looking pret-ty lonely right now…

(Yes I’m aware of the existance of the Disciples series. If future games are anything like Disciples III was, well…)

I think the start at $19.99 could be a good decision. While these games are definitely popular among those who already enjoy & play them, perhaps the lower price point will make it more attractive to someone sitting on the fence about picking it up. Great interview, thanks Joe!

Interesting. I wonder if my computer will be able to play it. I unfortunately can’t run Civ 5, but I do like my strategy games, and would probably pick up something like this if it’s within my computer’s abilities.

So is this game kinda like spiritual successor to the old Master Of Magic game? Anybody remember that one? A combination of Civilization in fantasy realm with spells plus hero units and combat in HOMM style. Loved that game!

Master of Magic already got spiritual successors in the Age of Wonders series! But it’s great to have even more, because it was a fun title.

I was greatly disappointed by both Civilization 5 and Majesty 2, but when I look at what is essentially the two games combined, I feel really excited. Missing elements from Majesty are back (like my favourite deity, Lunord), while the good stuff from Civ 5 is no longer bogged down by a “too simplistic” tech tree. I am definitely planning to get this, and the low price tag makes it all the sweeter.

My thoughts almost exactly! its a bummer they are putting in mulitplayer post-release but hopefully it will be a superior multiplayer than what Civ5 has now. I wont even play without combat animations.
