I think this game will have low specs so many people can play. Which I don’t mind actually. I like the idea. One negative thing………….doesn’t this kind of defeat the purpose of the Civil War? I mean futuristic weapons on the Civil kind of defeats the purpose of the civil war. I mean Darkness of Days (or whatever you called it; can’t remember the name well) I have played and it was okay. Not the best, had flaws, but it was okay. That had some purpose which meant you still used civil war weapons but occasionally got an old fashion rifle. But this is like playing Empire Earth 2 with one side having the futuristic age and the other side having (idk) stone age still. But nevertheless, I will still give it a chance.

Looks like a decent game. The fact that you would have futuristic weapons in the Civil War reminded me of Darkest of Days. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem anything like that, so I’ll be looking forward to hearing more about this one. AND a World Editor?! Damn, that’s just the icing on top!

Between this and Jamestown, I’m wondering if steampunk American history isn’t gonna be the next big game setting.

Ya know….if this concept didn’t work for Darkest of Days, its not going to work here. This game is still early so there is hope, but right now color me uninterested.

Darkest of Days was a mediocre FPS with brain-dead AI and a plot which stopped making sense when ya looked at it closely.

This is looking to be a fun strategy game with unique elements.

Also, the concept is pretty different. I’d liken it more to the title Damnation which, while a very, very bad game, had a steampunk civil war setting.

Thats the problem. Darkest of Days wasn’t Steam punk…and neither is this. Its modern tech plopped down in the civil war. Damnation at least had the decency to follow the idea, modern ideas powered by old tech.

It should come as no surprise that I am stoked about this game. It looks like it’s got some solid game mechanics going for it, with the Battlefield-style drop-in-and-play, hopefully the commander won’t be left telling people to do things and then getting completely ignored (I never had a problem being commander in the Battlefield series, so hopefully it’ll work just as smooth here, with massive rewards for following orders). The customization here looks INCREDIBLE! Complete map editor included? Awesome!

The only thing I see is that the Union and Confederacy seem to be identical as far as unit performance and selection is concerned. Maybe they’ll each have some unique units (Rocket-armed Abe Lincoln, and Stonewall Jackson with a shield generator, maybe?).

In any event, I cannot wait until this one comes out, and for only ten bucks!

Will it actually tell a story in a campaign, or is it just civil war with future weapons? The latter doesn’t make all that hot, but of the time traveler actually has a goal and you get to see what the goal is in a campaign we’ve got something.

Also, it seems like the North got the future weapons, what’s the point of that? You’d think going back in time was to change history because the future is shit and he figured out a way to make the future better. The North won, winning a little faster doesn’t seem much of a difference, unless the future guy is planning global conquest after the Civil War is over; it would require him to become the new president…

Actually, at one part of the demonstration, he played as the Confederacy. The part where he showed Joe what units were going to be available. Although he did pick out a few old school musketeer types at the unit selection screen, he also had more modern units in the arsenal. The North didn’t get all the tech.

I have to admit I am interested…until I read the small print.

“online Real Time Strategy / First Person Shooter hybrid”

Now I don’t mean to say Gettysburg is going to be horrible…but if anyone else here has played Savage 2 (or maybe Nuclear Dawn) recently, they should understand where I’m coming from.

Long story made short – it SUCKS to be the Commander in these kinds of games. Often your having to lead around shooter junkies who just plain don’t listen to your orders or help you in any possible way. As a former Savage 2 player myself, this comes from experiance as the Commander.

Apparently people still care about graphics these days for some reason.
