Bringing Motion Plus capability to this 25 year old franchise, Skyward Sword will be the final Zelda game to appear this console generation. In all likeliness this will be the swan song title for the Wii with the next Nintendo home console arriving on shelves next year. Does send the console out with a bang? More importantly does it live up to the expectations Zelda fans have no doubt heaped upon it? Find out here
After 25 years of epicness, The Legend of Zelda brings what fans really wanted all along !
What constitutes a good character? Join me in this series that attempts to look at these characters and tries to peel away the layers of depth they have. Join me as we find Characters with Character. This week is Link.
You know, some games with long histories sometimes get a special treatment in small ways, like a book highlighting its successes or a re-release of the original title commemorating the anniversary. You got to hand it to Nintendo though; when they want to give you something, they go all out!

I’m a little disappointed to see a BT review following the trend set by every other reviewer. Granted, I don’t expect a font of wisdom dripping from each and every word, but I find myself genuinely let-down by the level of generic here.
Every other reviewer and their dog has pitched in about how good SS is, but the ones that do invariably use the same tired language.
“expressing himself in a way not seen since Wind Waker”
“deeper characters than previous Zelda games”
“works far better than the previous system”
Comparing a game to its previous iteration is a given, but comparing it SOLELY to that is not. It’s clear that you hold this game to the standards of Zelda games only, and not to games as a whole.
For instance, I’m guessing, since they were your listed cons, that the hit and miss graphics and motion plus implementation are the main reason this game got a 9/10. I can infer, then, that you thought that the story deserved full marks.
How deep are these characters, as shown in this game, compared to other games? How interesting is this narrative, compared to other games? How meaningful are your choices, compared to other games?
The answer? Not very. Groose, a character you wink at in this review, is a paper cut-out in comparison, who spends literally half of the game crying a corner, and the other half developing off-screen. Groose is not a well-handled character, except in the context of Zelda games, which have traditionally had weakly-developed characters.
Skyward Sword is fun, for a bit. But it is sorely lacking in more areas than one, and definitely doesn’t deserve the label of “an utter triumph in entertainment.” Quality is subjective, and you’re free to your opinion, but the criteria on which you base your opinion, how it measures up to Other Zelda games, leaves this review pretty useless.
Well crap. Not quite sure how this comment ended up here, but this is the wrong place for it.
Please ignore.
Skyward Sword does seem like very good game. Too bad that you can’t play it without Wii Motion Controller.
The Legend of Zelda, originally released as The Hyrule Fantasy: Legend of Zelda. in Japan, is a video game developed and published by Nintendo, and designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka.[
no it’s really not, you play on Wii, you should expect to utilize motion controls. simple as that
Gotta say: Groose’s theme is becoming my favorite “buffoon” theme ever.
now the video of the gameplay looks low res, but it looks like link has no underpants on when he is flying tough the sky.
For a very weird and funny easter egg. In the cave before the sand seas summon the gossip stone in the middle of the room then pick up a bomb and place in back down. Then run away and turn around. Believe me when I say you won’t be disappointed.
VERY happy to learn that Tingle isn’t in this game. But why did Beedle have to return?
Great work as always PBG
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? NO TINGLE?!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
LOL
thanks PBG for the quick first impression. i intend to get the game on black Friday. not sure if it will have a super deal but i guess i can be patient enough till then.
peace.
I’m glad this game is getting such great reviews, even though I’ve been dodging the lot of them to avoid all forms of spoilers, I got a week before I can get the game myself.
Uh PBG? You do know that what you have here is the top 10 list of Zelda dungeon tunes. You need to actually put your Skyword Sword “review” on instead of a video we’ve already seen on BT. Just to let you know.
LOL. I got JonTron to do it for me because I’m out of town with very limited internet access. I’ll call him up and see if he can fix it.

Welcome back to the discussion show where we introduce the debate and you continue it. This week’s topic: Shaun and Johnny Maloney discuss the past & future of Star Wars video games.
I’m glad you guys took your time, because that’s what makes it fun. The world is full of little details and secrets and sidequests, and seeing how Fraser makes his own way through the game is really the point here!
I’m also glad you stopped when you did; this show is no good if you become as tired and disgruntled as the folks chewing you out for joking about the game. What do they think they’re watching, anyway? This is a relaxed and silly show, that’s the point.
But remember: As soon as you start the next part, go back to the sky and upgrade your shield! You’ll be glad you did. Grab a potion or two on the way and THEN start the temple, because while I don’t want you to rush through the game, you’ve got to give it your best!
Oh Fraser I hadn’t had you pegged as a FF fan for some reason. Plan to play/rage on FF13-2 when it comes out?
Also, your singing is wonderful. It’s the only thing that made this boring game watchable. I totally unsubbed toward the end when you didn’t sing.

you guys get funnyer every episode wow i cant spell at all sorry
When attempting to fake out an enemy, don’t bother returning the remote to a neutral position before swinging a different way. For example, if pointing your remote to the right so you can attack from the left, just make the swing while still pointing to the right. The game doesn’t care where the remote is before you swing; it only cares what direction you swing. Attempting to move the whole remote back to the left before swinging runs into the problem of having that movement register as a slash you don’t want.
Alternatively, you can just be make quicker, firmer slashes from the wrist instead of from the forearm. If you keep your sword in a neutral position, quick wrist slashes are seldom read by enemies, at least in my experience with the game so far. (I’m about halfway into the sixth dungeon.)
Also: The singing grated on me, too. I laughed the first time, but after it kept coming back again and again I almost didn’t want to finish watching.
Also II: The game indeed starts out slowly, but good golly you didn’t do it any favors. -_-;;
Wow…Fraser, I seriously love your show and I’ve been watching for quite some time but…
This is the first time I’ve been so annoyed to such a point that I just said screw it and stopped watching. Trolling Zelda is all well and good, funny even to a certain extent. It’s kind of what ya’ll do and we love you for it but dear god in heaven if you ever do that singing crap like you did with Fi I swear I will never watch this show again. It’s that bad man. It’s like listening to nails on a gd chalkboard only 100x worse because I want to watch but I can’t stand watching anymore.
This passed the border of funny trolling and into straight up annoying jackass. It’s a fine line, but Fraser, your singing voice crosses it with ease.
Other than that part? Great show as always. I may come back and try and finish the rest of what’s here later but for now, I’m too irritated at that gd Fi ‘singing’ voice of yours to continue for now.
Jesus, man. Calm down.
I’m unsure as to which part of that wasn’t calm, let alone why the extreme negative feedback on it. It was hardly an outburst of any kind and all I did was mention how great the show was but how terrible the singing in turn contrasted to it. Please don’t overreact to a simple and calm reaction. Negative criticism doesn’t always mean ‘freaking out’.
Fraser, I used to think you were crazy but now I can see your nuts….
“Anti-Climactic Intro” Because intros are supposed to contain the climax.
*Trollface*
Eitherway, good show! I always tune into Nintendo stuff! (No, I do not hate the non-Nintendo stuff =P)
LOL! Ben’s face on the titlecard literally made me double take as I scrolled down. xDD
I don’t think that Link in this game is as bad as you make him out to be. And fraser enjoyes the giant prick. Great! + Deacon is awesome!
