So I can Campaign on my PC, PvP on my Ipad, then meddle with my items on my phone? HELL YAH!

I’ll be the first to admit, “Mobile Gaming” hasn’t been something I’ve considered every since my PSP failed to impress me with it’s copy of Dynasty Warriors, and even THEN my previous Mobile Gaming experience was a rather evil little product called the Game Gear. Ohhh dear readers those were the days. When 8 AA batteries would last you a good 45 minutes to an hour. But times, they sure have changed. Now even our treasured MMOs have broken the market of Mobile Gaming with dominating titles such as Pocket Legends that, which despite their graphical limitations, manage to create a compelling and enthralling experience on the iOS and Android. But now one company has decided that Mobile Gamers don’t need to be segregated from the rest of the gaming community anymore. They’ve decided to do the unthinkable… to combine their Mobile gamers, with their PC gamers, on one single server.

I dunno about the holding hands part… a lot of phone users have greasy hands…

Spacetime Studios made huge waves with the release of the “Legend” series of games. Beginning with Pocket Legends in April of 2010 (which was later ported to the Android), they quickly expanded into the realm of Sci Fi (Star Legends) and as most are these days, Vampires (Dark Legends). But being an innovator in the Mobile MMO industry doesn’t mean you get to stand still. At the 1 year benchmark their first-release title had been downloaded over 4 million times, and still continues to grow at a rapid pace.

But apparently, that wasn’t enough. Coming across my desk of news this morning was a release from the Mobile MMO giant claiming it had finally bridged the gap between PC and Mobile MMO gamers by releasing it’s flagship titles (Pocket Legends and Star Legends) for the PC. The PC users would share the same server as the Mobile gamers, allowing Spacetime to create the first Platform Independent MMO. In a world of platform proprietary releases, I am overjoyed Spacetime is thinking of their gamers first.

Does… that say Leroy? DAMNIT LEROY!!

With company founders hailing from awesome games such as Star Wars: Galaxies (Rest in Peace little buddy) and Wing Commander, it’s no surprise they have some brilliant thinkers on staff. Using what the company calls “Spacetime Technologies”, they’ve been able to release a surprisingly stable MMO experience along with repeated patches and updates to keep returning customers begging for more.

But what does this mean for the rest of the industry? Spacetime has fired the first shot in the battle for platform/console independence… but will it end here? Sony and Microsoft have announced repeated plans to try and unify their consoles with an online PC experience but nothing on this sort of level. Will the PSVita and newly renovated Microsoft Xbox Experience try and bring the same level of depth, or is the idea of trying to bring together Mobile and PC Gamers something that shouldn’t even be attempted?

I can’t say for sure, but one thing I do know for certain. The level of control a PC gives me for my gaming is unbeatable, but the convenience and portability of my iPad and Phone enable me to do so much more with my idle time during the day. Companies like Spacetime are trying to combine both of our gaming worlds… and I for one can’t wait to see what’s ahead in such a crazy gaming world.

PC (Chrome) users can find their own copy of Pocket Legends and Star Legends at these links. For your iOS and Android needs, check out the App Store and Android Marketplace.

YAAAAAAAAY! It’s a bunch of NOTHING. Seriously SW:TOR is getting a ton of criticism because the tech its using is suited for 2005 not ’11 and somehow a game that can be played on a PHONE and high-end PC at the same time is worth anyone’s time?
