I think a Pokemon/Final Fantasy SRPG would have sold a jillion units.

Never heard of Tecmo Koei’s Nobunaga’s Ambition series? Me neither, but as a certified Pokémaniac, I was pretty interested in the newly announced Pokémon + Nobunaga’s Ambition, a strategy RPG crossover that was recently announced. As a title that will likely only see a Japanese release, they didn’t even bother with an English trailer, but we can still see what it will look like:

As I noted in my Pokémon Rumble Blast review, a genre change for everyone’s favorite mon franchise is definitely in order. A grid-based strategy game in the style of the Nobunaga part of the crossover, Pokémon Plus actually looks pretty awesome, pairing up many popular pocket monsters with characters from the series that shares a name with a BT MMO editor’s pseudonym.

What do you think of the idea? Do you think it will ever make it to Europe or North America? What are some other genres or crossover opportunities that you think Pokémon should attempt? Let us know in the comments below.

Pokémon + Nobunaga’s Ambition will be coming to the Japanese DS in 2012.

Yo, I am new around here.

This is an awesome web cite!

The game Pokemon+ Nubunaga is an awesome idea! I can’t wait get my hands on that game and play it! anyone know when is it going to be out?

I don’t like the fact that its on the Ds, i Prefer it to be on the 3ds. I mean, a new game should have good graphics on a new system, right?

Yes, you can play a DS game on a 3DS. You also can play a DOS game on WINDOWS 7. Oh, and don’t forget GBA games! Them you can play on most of Nintendo consoles. Why not make those?
Why did they publish a new console, if they still intend to do most of their major releases(and Pokemon games are MAJOR) on an old DS console? You could say that it’s more profitable, but it’s not! Not in the long run. Unless they make 3DS more desirable, they very soon will lose most of their portable console market. Clinging to a 6 year old(make that 10 y.o. since it wasn’t the peak of techonology back when it came out) equipment is a dead end for them as a console-maker. Gameplay is a lot, but graphics and console’s capabilities are important too. Those, who ignore this, are… ignorant)

    Y U HATE 3DS, NINTENDOOOO!?

I honestly think the odds of this making it over are pretty good. The DS is the big player in RPGs these days and pokemon’s selling power has proven itself over and over.

You can definitely play a regular DS game in the 3DS. The only problem with playing a DS game on the 3DS is that it distorts the aspect ratio a little. It’s not overly distorted, but you can tell.

I’ve never heard of the non-Pokemon series mentioned here, but this game looks pretty interesting. Given how ridiculously popular Pokemon is, I have a feeling we could actually see a NA and PAL release of this.

For those complaining about this being on the DS instead of the 3DS, keep in mind that in the likelihood this doesn’t make it out of Japan you can still import and play it on your conveniently region-free DS.
That said, I’m pretty excited for this. Even if ends up not being that great, the concept alone is cool enough for me to be interested.

DS release == larger audience. It’s that simple. The first 3DS Pokemon comes out when it can make more money than a DS version. And that’s unlikely to be a gimmick version like this.

On another note, did any of you see the new Jump Festa Kingdom Hearts 3D trailer, 8 minutes of awesome…oh yeah…and Tron: Legacy is in this Kingdom Hearts…

As soon as I saw this game, my first reaction was, “…yeah, this isn’t coming state-side.” Still, crossing Pokemon with a strategy RPG is an interesting concept. As a fan of SRPGs like Disgaea, it would be fun to try out a new pokemon game that isn’t like the original formula (which I still love) or a dungeon crawler

Personally I would like to see a crossover between Shin Megami Tensei and Pokemon. Seeing as SMT is the first monster catching game (Digital Devil Story released in 1987 on the Famicom in Japan only). It could be in the style of Devil Survivor (think Demon Tamers vs Pokemon Trainers). Plus if Atlus was doing the story it could be probably one of the most original, dark, and controversial stories for a Pokemon game. Plus we could even throw in some of the more popular Pokemon antagonists. Ir would be awesome but I doubt it would happen but if they could get Dante from DMC in Nocturne I suppose anything is possible. If this game does come stateside I will buy it because the SRPG genre and Pokemon would work incredibly well together I just hope it will have good story.

Layton vs. Wright still has a solid chance of coming to the States. I certainly hope it does.

Besides, you would need to buy a Japanese 3DS to play it.

    Another pokemon game on… DS.
    Why, Nintendo, WHIEEEY!?
Seriously though, it’s been a while since 3ds came out, it’s time some good pokemon rpg came to it.
And Pokemon is pretty much owned by Nintendo, so how come 3ds gets only oh so barely playable Rumble without any pluses that a pokemon game should have? Like evolutions, strategy and tons of lvl-ing up?
I’m really starting to regret ever buying 3ds, because from 5 month I have it, I played it for a couple of weeks. The rest of the time it just stays in the closet because of the lack of games to play and extreme lack of good games to play.

      Do you only play Pokemon?

You have no interest in Super Mario 3D Land, Star Fox, Ocarina of Time 3D, Sonic Generations, Shinobi, or any of the eShop games? HeartGold/SoulSilver and Black/White aren’t enough Pokemon to tide you over for at least another year? I’m a pretty big Pokemon fan myself, but I have to say, I just don’t get that.

It’s not about Pokemon. Problem is that there are literally no good RPGs to play on the go. Pokemon were always that game for me on Nintendo’s consoles just as Disgaea is on Sony’s PSP. And I don’t feel like playing DS game on a 3DS. Mostly because I bought 3ds because I saw it as something new and interesting on it’s own, not an emulator for old DS.
So your question about other games I believe should be answered by now: I crave for rpgs(be it Pokemon, or FinalFantasy Tactics)
But, since you also made a point about other games, here is my opinion about them.

Ocarina of Time is a re-make. I played it through on N64 and besides graphics(which as a Nintendo fan you should know are not important) literally nothing has changed. I bought the thing, played it for a while for nostalgia, then dropped it, because it doesn’t have much replay value to me. Same thing goes for Starfox.
Mario was good. Pretty much the only game that I have no complaints about.
Sonic Generations… I’d rather play it on a home console.
Every other 3ds game I’ve seen and played were upstraight disappointing. This includes DoA, Resident Evil:Mercenaries, Driver.
        Haven’t played Shinobi yet.

This should be an interesting crossover. As for other bizarre Pokemon crossovers:
Fate/Stay Night and Pokemon, Tales series and Pokemon, or how about a Dr. Who/Pokemon crossover game?

I want this game so badly it hurts. Since its Pokemon there might just perhaps be the smallest of chances it comes over here. I live in hope anyways. Now to start brainstorming what other series to cross the Mon over with. Hmmm…? Tony Hawk’s Poke-Skater. Assassin’s Creed: Red & Blue. Infamous: Pikachu Edition. Street Fighter Vs Pokemon (why not, everyone else is doing it). X-Wing vs Lugia. Why the possibilities are endless. :)

It’s been over two days since I saw this and I still can’t get over this. Utter bonkers.

I would have said to put Pokemon in Samurai Warriors gameplay, but you could say they kind of tried that already in Rumble and….well, it’s not exactly Moving Pictures quality.
