Bringing Motion Plus capability to this 25 year old franchise, Skyward Sword will be the final Zelda game to appear this console generation. In all likeliness this will be the swan song title for the Wii with the next Nintendo home console arriving on shelves next year. Does send the console out with a bang? More importantly does it live up to the expectations Zelda fans have no doubt heaped upon it? Find out here
After 25 years of epicness, The Legend of Zelda brings what fans really wanted all along !
What constitutes a good character? Join me in this series that attempts to look at these characters and tries to peel away the layers of depth they have. Join me as we find Characters with Character. This week is Link.
You know, some games with long histories sometimes get a special treatment in small ways, like a book highlighting its successes or a re-release of the original title commemorating the anniversary. You got to hand it to Nintendo though; when they want to give you something, they go all out!

I’m a little disappointed to see a BT review following the trend set by every other reviewer. Granted, I don’t expect a font of wisdom dripping from each and every word, but I find myself genuinely let-down by the level of generic here.
Every other reviewer and their dog has pitched in about how good SS is, but the ones that do invariably use the same tired language.
“expressing himself in a way not seen since Wind Waker”
“deeper characters than previous Zelda games”
“works far better than the previous system”
Comparing a game to its previous iteration is a given, but comparing it SOLELY to that is not. It’s clear that you hold this game to the standards of Zelda games only, and not to games as a whole.
For instance, I’m guessing, since they were your listed cons, that the hit and miss graphics and motion plus implementation are the main reason this game got a 9/10. I can infer, then, that you thought that the story deserved full marks.
How deep are these characters, as shown in this game, compared to other games? How interesting is this narrative, compared to other games? How meaningful are your choices, compared to other games?
The answer? Not very. Groose, a character you wink at in this review, is a paper cut-out in comparison, who spends literally half of the game crying a corner, and the other half developing off-screen. Groose is not a well-handled character, except in the context of Zelda games, which have traditionally had weakly-developed characters.
Skyward Sword is fun, for a bit. But it is sorely lacking in more areas than one, and definitely doesn’t deserve the label of “an utter triumph in entertainment.” Quality is subjective, and you’re free to your opinion, but the criteria on which you base your opinion, how it measures up to Other Zelda games, leaves this review pretty useless.
Well crap. Not quite sure how this comment ended up here, but this is the wrong place for it.
Please ignore.
Skyward Sword does seem like very good game. Too bad that you can’t play it without Wii Motion Controller.
The Legend of Zelda, originally released as The Hyrule Fantasy: Legend of Zelda. in Japan, is a video game developed and published by Nintendo, and designed by Shigeru Miyamoto and Takashi Tezuka.[
no it’s really not, you play on Wii, you should expect to utilize motion controls. simple as that
Gotta say: Groose’s theme is becoming my favorite “buffoon” theme ever.
now the video of the gameplay looks low res, but it looks like link has no underpants on when he is flying tough the sky.
For a very weird and funny easter egg. In the cave before the sand seas summon the gossip stone in the middle of the room then pick up a bomb and place in back down. Then run away and turn around. Believe me when I say you won’t be disappointed.
VERY happy to learn that Tingle isn’t in this game. But why did Beedle have to return?
Great work as always PBG
WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT? NO TINGLE?!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
LOL
thanks PBG for the quick first impression. i intend to get the game on black Friday. not sure if it will have a super deal but i guess i can be patient enough till then.
peace.
I’m glad this game is getting such great reviews, even though I’ve been dodging the lot of them to avoid all forms of spoilers, I got a week before I can get the game myself.
Uh PBG? You do know that what you have here is the top 10 list of Zelda dungeon tunes. You need to actually put your Skyword Sword “review” on instead of a video we’ve already seen on BT. Just to let you know.
LOL. I got JonTron to do it for me because I’m out of town with very limited internet access. I’ll call him up and see if he can fix it.

Music Mondays revisits the band that brought us tunes from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Bit.Trip Runner.
