I kinda wished you added that thing where you had Guy read part of that fan fic story when James first meets glimpses pyramid head like in the game den episode you did for the game. It would have been epic :D

I’m wondering how many people have heard of the “Book of Memories” project. I was pretty pissed when I saw the trailer: http://www.5min.com/Video/Silent-Hill-Book-of-Memories-Gamescom-2011-Gameplay-Trailer-517147057

“A handgun, sweet! Wait, a shopping cart; what’s that doing there?!” Do shopping carts symbolize anything? Maybe that materialism leads to downfall? I’m not sure if that was suppose to have meaning, but it’s interesting to think about why the developers put that there. Anyways…

Another fantastic video, as always. I will, yet again, have insomnia, because of the images Silent Hill leaves me, but it’s well worth it to get your opinions on certain aspects of the game. Not to mention how funny these videos can be. I look forward to the next video!

And in the meantime, I will go buy about 3 dozen nightlights.

Ok I’ve been silent for awhile, and while I do like your perspective on somethings, I just have to say this, you may like Silent Hill but boy does it not like you. You say you’ve played the game before but just like every other person I’ve heard say they played it you have virtually no navigation skills. You got lost in a room, in the past I let it go that on the first vid you got confused on a one-way path, but the room was the deal breaker. Plus you are playing the game on the easiest puzzle difficulty, the developers designed the easy puzzles in a way to be flat out obvious. I was 12 when I played this and my brother had bought the game, and even then I played it normal, that was years ago but I still know the entire game like the back of my hand. I know I am just going to get the old thumbs down for this comment, but come on, these games aren’t built to drive you nuts, to be honest ever Silent Hill starting with 4 has been too damn easy because of people finding the earlier games to hard. Homecoming people say is hard but it’s a cake walk, the final stage in that cultisit den you can kill EVERY single enemy with the freakin ceremony dagger, without getting hit because some moron programmed the enemies to loop when hit. I got a bit off topic.
Anyway I still like your videos and hope you to keep doing them, but I honestly think you need to perhaps play the game before hand and then do a let’s play so you can tally spots when you lose yourself, maybe that takes away from the video, but for someone like me who loves these types of games for their elegence of design and hidden simplicity, your kinda driving me nuts. Like when you were on the second floor, and checked the same broken door twice within 2 minutes of just checking it, not getting any less broken from my experince playing it. I”m sorry if I sound cruel but it’s my opinion, I like your videos and keep it up.

And this is for the moth people:
Oh yeah about symbolism in Silent Hill, I have heard so many damn variations of Silent Hill 2 lore especially and all it has effectively done is make me start to dislike the game, just interpret as you see fit and don’t freakin argue, it’s a game, granted a creative one, but it was designed for you to draw your own beliefs and conclusion, there is no single answer. And fck pyramid head, fck him to hell. Thank god SH3 dropped his sorry ass but then the freakin movie had to ruin it, fck that movie too.

Oh yeah Dena don’t play Siren it sucks, if you want to play it play the remake on the Playstation Store for Ps3 (if you have gotten a ps3 yet). Meanwhile we got screwed in the states because Siren 2 Forbidden is awesome just like SH3 with gameplay design, but never released. Only in UK and Japan, if you can get Siren 2, but Siren 1 for the ps2 is broken and overall a butchered SH game at it’s core.

Well good luck, and sorry for my comments, just had to vent.

Yeah, I’ve heard that they are moths too. I think somewhere I read speculation that the moths had killed the butterfly, which adds a whole new level to that particular thread of symbolism, which is representative, I suppose, of both Maria and Mary.

I had fun watching your let’s play of Silent Hill 2. Really neat. Oh the music oh shit lol Imma bet its pyramid head (yeah so typing this as I watch it lol) now for boring walking and being able to look at the map now lol now for more static! And now to destroy the legs! Pwned! Guess I’ll try to be less of a play-by-play of your own let’s play now XD Yeah believe I did see Silent Horror. Oh shit, pyramid head on the other side of the cage. Woaah. o.o freaky lol pfft..I don’t think he sold out per-say, he just is fan-service and I like seeing him in other stuff personally

He looks like James? Doesn’t look like him to me, though ironicly doesn’t someone die like that in 3? Harry wasn’t it? I tend to get the protagonist of SH1 and SH4 mixed up name-wise. Bah either way nice lol I suck at puzzles too btw..always been a problem for me lol .You aren’t dumb..you just forgot and I don’t get it either @_@ then again I never played SH2. OH I would NEVER have gotten that. Hours minutes seconds. I would’ve never caught on to that, I would’ve had to use a FAQ lol. Ah moving the clock till it works would be nice.

Anywho…you ever receive my PM on TGWTG?

I see it now. I tend to forget that there’s two PM systems on that site (one for the main site and one for the forums, and I kept looking at the one for the main site). I hope they do away with that at some point because it’s kinda confusing.

Heh, don’t beat yourself up for forgetting puzzles. If anything, it adds to the re-playability. You know, apart from the fact that it’s a great game. The atmosphere still creeps me out after all these years. Amazing.

I think moths symbolize death, while butterflies symbolize rebirth.

And the moths in the room follow you because of the flashlight.
If you turn it off, they stop.
It’s a nice detail that they added to the game.

Hi. I think in this game the ones that are dead are butterflies and the ones flying around are moths. That’s why they follow you around, they’re following the light. If I’m not mistaken, moths symbolize death (or something similar), and they hover around James. Foreshadowing!

It’s the kind of stuff western developers seem to have no idea of. No subtlety, no *real* symbolism or foreshadowing.

The thing that makes me sadder about Silent Hill as a series (that’s pretty much dead) is that all new games, since they’re made by different western developers, lack something essential: a vision. All the old secrets and misteries are left behind, any kind of development of the mythos has been abandoned, and western developers will only play it safe, creating copies of previous games with slight changes. There’s no sense of planning, or anything going on behind the scenes. It’s just a rehash of ideas.

That’s why new games do nothing for me. The old games added concepts, like the “are they people or monsters” question and how far does SH influence goes with SH4. This is not happening anymore. The series is stuck, and the sense of story/mythos development I had playing the old games in succession is completely gone. :(

Nice videos btw. LPs are always welcome. :)

Dena, have you seen Silence of the Lambs? After watching the movie more carefully a time through, I noticed that Buffalo Bill (bad guy/serial killer in the movie), had A LOT of dead butterflies around his place. not that the movie and the game are intertwined, but it’s a curious thought

good video!! :) and yeah, the running around can be a little confusing sometimes.

In Silence of the Lambs, those were moths, not butterflies. Specifically the Death’s Head Moth.
