One of the most storied franchises in history soars to new heights. The Legend of Zelda™: Skyward Sword shakes up the tried-and-true adventure game formula and marks a turning point for the franchise. The introduction of full motion controls enabled by Wii MotionPlus™ technology synchronizes player movements with Link's actions while offering the most intuitive play control of any game in the series to date.

Just come out already!

I won’t waste time on this one. The new trailer is damn good, to say the least, and shows a lot of new images that were not seen before.

Based on the trailer we see a lot of new faces, most notably that mysterious woman that bookends the entire trailer. My first inclination was Impa, but you ever know with a Zelda game. We also see some sort of lake guardian and I do believe we caught a glimpse of the Master Sword in there too! The highlight though is a high-powered fight between Ghirahim, the primary antagonist, and the mystery maiden towards the end. Overall, we can add it to the pile of trailers as the release date creeps up on us.

PROS:Great shooting mechanics, Paintball is fun, Diverse gun selection

Oh man, I hope that giant whale thing is actually a boss. I can see it being my favorite in this game already. Granted, I haven’t seen any others so that’s a pretty premature judgment. That scene with Ghiraham and that sheikah (I assume) was just awesome, and I can’t wait to see it in the actual game.

Nice new footage. I wanna know what’s with the dragon/serpent things. Also finally a clear picture of the blonde chick, so the obvious question is does she have something to do with the Mask of Truth from older games?

You know, some games with long histories sometimes get a special treatment in small ways, like a book highlighting its successes or a re-release of the original title commemorating the anniversary. You got to hand it to Nintendo though; when they want to give you something, they go all out!

I’m a little disappointed to see a BT review following the trend set by every other reviewer. Granted, I don’t expect a font of wisdom dripping from each and every word, but I find myself genuinely let-down by the level of generic here.

Every other reviewer and their dog has pitched in about how good SS is, but the ones that do invariably use the same tired language.

“expressing himself in a way not seen since Wind Waker”
“deeper characters than previous Zelda games”
“works far better than the previous system”

Comparing a game to its previous iteration is a given, but comparing it SOLELY to that is not. It’s clear that you hold this game to the standards of Zelda games only, and not to games as a whole.

For instance, I’m guessing, since they were your listed cons, that the hit and miss graphics and motion plus implementation are the main reason this game got a 9/10. I can infer, then, that you thought that the story deserved full marks.

How deep are these characters, as shown in this game, compared to other games? How interesting is this narrative, compared to other games? How meaningful are your choices, compared to other games?

The answer? Not very. Groose, a character you wink at in this review, is a paper cut-out in comparison, who spends literally half of the game crying a corner, and the other half developing off-screen. Groose is not a well-handled character, except in the context of Zelda games, which have traditionally had weakly-developed characters.

Skyward Sword is fun, for a bit. But it is sorely lacking in more areas than one, and definitely doesn’t deserve the label of “an utter triumph in entertainment.” Quality is subjective, and you’re free to your opinion, but the criteria on which you base your opinion, how it measures up to Other Zelda games, leaves this review pretty useless.

Skyward Sword does seem like very good game. Too bad that you can’t play it without Wii Motion Controller.

no it’s really not, you play on Wii, you should expect to utilize motion controls. simple as that

For a very weird and funny easter egg. In the cave before the sand seas summon the gossip stone in the middle of the room then pick up a bomb and place in back down. Then run away and turn around. Believe me when I say you won’t be disappointed.

Uh PBG? You do know that what you have here is the top 10 list of Zelda dungeon tunes. You need to actually put your Skyword Sword “review” on instead of a video we’ve already seen on BT. Just to let you know.
