PS1 classics and HD collections not quite doing it for you? Sony will now offer PS2 classics on the PSN, which started this past Tuesday. The first wave of titles that are available now are Odin Sphere, GrimGrimoire, God Hand, Maximo: Ghosts to Glory, and Ring of Red (not to be confused with the Xbox 360 ailment). Each are available for $9.99 and are currently only playable on the PS3.
I feel like this was something that was bound to happen sooner or later, and it’s great to see some of these games re-released. While these aren’t the most prominent titles for the system, most other bigger games have/ are receiving HD ports or are apart of some kind of collectors pack.
What PS2 games would you like to see released on the PSN as a PS2 classic? Share all of your thoughts with us below!

i’m getting a PSN card just for Odin Sphere. I had a chance to play it a long time ago, but it was after I sold my PS2. I personally think they should just HD all the major titles and keep the obscure titles in their original PS2 form and downloadable. Still, it’s a matter of if the companies want to spend the time remaking a game they’ve already made (which usually sucks because they either not remake a game or remake the wrong game that no one cares about)
Nintendo : Play ALL of your old games on your new console ! Hell ! You can even plug your old controllers in it !
Microsoft : Play SOME of your old games on your new console… yay we’re sorry the system is just too different to be fully compatible with everything…
Sony : Well we thought you may play them but… you know what ? Fuck you ! Just buy them twice …
I want to see the .hack PS2 games released on the PS3. I was borrowing them from the library when I still had a PS2, but didn’t know that the newer PS3′s were not backwards compatible until I traded up, and I never had a chance to finish playing the series.
There are going to be some angry eBay auctioneers, who were offering God Hand for around $70. I couldn’t stand Maximo back in the day, even though it was critically acclaimed. Fortunately I still have my PS2 and kept some of my most cherished titles, but I regret trading in titles like Viewtiful Joe, Snake Eater, Shadow Of The Colossus, and others. Selling more obscure PS2 titles for $10 each would be sweet.
Okami with move support but i highly doubt they will add new features to the classics yet alone move support
God Hand? Oh hell yes!
As for my wishlist…I would’ve asked for the Siren games if I didn’t have them.
Well, God Hand and Odin Sphere look neat…so, maybe?
I’d really prefer an emulator so I can just play my PS2 games on the PS3. I’m gonna laugh if any PS2 classics get an HD release after they come out on PSN.
I’ll say it again: Ring of Red may not be worth it. I’ve actually got it, and it’s really slow. Painfully slow.
I’m still on the edge about it, but PS2 classics would put me over the edge for the Vita. I skipped the PS2, so I’m missing some titles…It’s really a shame we aren’t going to see more of the PSOne games get HD remakes; by all rights, they need them the most.
Of course, the huge titles have a foot in the door, but I’m hoping we’ll start to see some more titles like Tenchu. Alas, there are no Tenchu games on PSN right now. I’ve also heard good things about Armored Core and Star Ocean, but I’ve never played either. Like I said, I never owned a PS2.
My thoughts… they are not needed.. the ps3 should be backwards compatible . but no because they know people will be dumb enough to buy games they already own
Yeah i agree that the Ps3 should have been backward compatible (well the ones that aren’t) But Most of these are going to be games that are like rare classics that are hard to find. And good thing for me, i have a Ps2 so its cool, though the games will probably be cheaper on Psn than in Retail stores
But that’s the thing: These are games very few people own, except for maybe Maximo. If they start releasing stuff like Devil May Cry, yeah, that’s where I draw the line. But for now, this late-end obscure stuff, half of which didn’t even come out over here, gets my approval.
