Hey Yugo! Good to see you again!

I guess this is the year of revivals then, especially for fighting games. First Marvel vs Capcom 3, then Mortal Kombat, we have King of Fighters XIII on the way, and now Bloody Roar! Now if only Eternal Champions gets the reboot treatment…

Well, I digress. It was recently tweeted by HudsonSoft that Bloody Roar, the fighting game franchise that had its last installment way back in 2003, will be revived with its fifth iteration sometime next year. Bloody Roar has you take on roles of various martial arts experts who have the ability to morph into an animal, from the classic “werewolf” style fighter to more furry creatures like moles and rabbits. The games’ gimmick did make it stand out from other, more complex fighters back in the day. While it was not as deep or complex as most fighting games, the series itself is still a cult favorite, and it is nice to see a revival is coming soon.

Update: Looks like that revival is not happening. At least not yet, it seems.

After the past few days have been abuzz over a Bloody Roar sequel, today it was announced that the whole thing is a sham, sadly. At least, that is what other twitter messages and websites are saying.

Of course, now I don’t know what to believe, but then again most of the websites that originally posted the story were following the twitter feed as the only proof anyway, so I guess we can take solace in the fact that we were duped together as a community, if it really is a hoax. Either way, I feel like playing Bloody Roar 3.

Even if this was a fake, if Mortal Kombat can get a web series and a movie from a trailer on the web that got caught in the whirlwind of hype for MK9, then I have a good feeling HudsonSoft and Konami will see this reaction to the fake announcement and make the same decision.

I’ll keep some of my hope for this title.

That sucks. So much for that possibility. I guess that sounded too true to be true.

While I personally never cared for this series as I’m a 2D fighter kinda guy,
I still feel for the people who thought they had gotten the incredibly unlikely revival of one of their favorite fighters
    only to get shot down.

As someone who owns all the games in the series, the manga, and had a wrestling match as Yugo, all I have to say is:

Please God, don’t screw this up like they did with 4.

(Oh right, I still need to do part 3 of the BR retrospective)

Forget it, this looks like it’s fake. Check “Hudson’s” twitter.

Judging from what other fighters have done with their own revivals/reboots, I’m quite hopeful that this new game will keep the better parts of the older games and adding some extras that should expand gameplay a bit.

Maybe this time they may have a full Custom Zoanthrope feature in the game, separate from 4′s Career Mode. That would be something fun.

Now if we could only get Killer Instinct 3 this fighting game revival would be almost complete. :)

They could do something as simple as port Bloody Roar: Primal Fury (GCN) and add an online component and I’d be happy, but a whole new game, sweet!

I just hope they keep the Dodge Button, It kinda reminded me of Third Strike, good stuff.

As long as it isn’t as bad as Bloody Roar 4, I’ll add it to my fighting game collection. Other than that, I’m looking forward to playing as Alice and Jenny again.
