MMO Grinder Sidequest is a quick look at MMOs I wouldn’t normally review, be it through limited trial accounts, or Closed Beta games. First up, it’s the oft requested Star Wars The Old Republic.

And the weekend begins Thursday now too!

At the Star Wars Guild Summit there was a video shown to the attendees that detailed the upcoming 1.2 Mega-Patch. Finally, after much waiting, comes the actual clear and HD version of that video…

Last week saw EA and BioWare’s investors receiving a few updates on their many investments.

The Disciples of Hatred and it’s Roleplayers Contingent take on some PvP in the Star Wars: The Old Republic Beta

What’s in the SWTOR VIP Lounge??

Are you ready for some hot click-spamming PvP madness?!

Announcing the first gathering of the Disciples of Hatred during the Beta Weekend Stress Test! …and of course that silly Jedi Consular progression video too.

Your questions FINALLY answered! What are the best aspects of the game? Why this MMO than any other? Do we get to kill Jar Jar? All this and more in ToR Q&A #1!

Much like the Jedi, you were deceived. I was in the beta test all along! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The official Star Wars: The Old Republic forums have been updated with a new post from Allison Berryman who has written that the beta invites for the third beta weekend for SWTOR are being sent out to hungry fans everywhere…

Back from the Con, and it’s time for more Star Wars goodness! Bring on the trailers!
I’m shocked. You guys actually think this looks good? PS2 era graphics, stiff/slow animation, playing as dude who wears ass tight pants?
Someone pointed this out to me, which I didn’t even think about until they did. This is the first video we’ve had with an official ESRB rating (videos before just had the “inappropriate for children” warning). Just that much closer to release now.
Indiana Jones Reference = Epic Win.
Definitely going to play a smuggler somewhere down the line in TOR, might be my first or second alt, and so going gunslinger class. Trench coats with cowboy hats is a must
So many Harrison Ford references, good grief, that is one lovingly made trailer for a lovingly made game.
The class aspect looks cool, at least as far as Star Wars games go. The problem is that the trailer here makes it look like the game will be a breeze of overkill badassness ease, because half of the classes were able to do something to unleash a flurry of blaster shots and kill everything on screen. God, I hope that’s just the trailer, because making the game too easy will completely undermine the purpose of having classes to begin with.
I have no idea why someone would try to gauge game difficulty from a trailer that is ment to show off the gear/skill advancement of a class. Of course they aren’t going to show a long fight, because that’s not what the trailer is for, it’s for showing off the class. It’s virtually impossible to estimate difficulty based on trailers, unless it was the trailer’s explicit purpose to show that the game is hard.
So it would be fair to say that the smuggler’s story will contain the most comedy of all the classes.
That was hilarious.
a guy with a dinky gun = to a force user? I call bs
but he wins because he cheats…he pulled out a second gun out of nowhere Indy style man…
Exactly, and it looked like some kind of laser-shotgun thing.
“Pathetic Force User, you can parry single shots… but how about 20 all at once!” BOOM. Dead Jedi. (Or Sith I suppose, you know…
)
Yep, Scoundrel get’s a laser-shotgun aka a scattergun. He uses it for a lot of melee-ish attacks that the gunslinger doesn’t get. The agent-operative’s equivalent is the vibroknife.
Yep, this is why the first class I’m trying out is the Smuggler.
I just imagine the smuggler at 2:10 going awww shiiiiiiittttt.
finally a chance to wear a cowboy hat in a Star Wars game! I kinda wondered why George never had anyone wear cowboy hats, I mean there was some influence of Sergio Leone in the original, especially in Han Solo’s character. Now all I need is a handlebar mustache and spurs.
Bugged that there seems to be a lack non combat classes I want a social progression smuggler/gambler class that allows one to skip fights most the time and spend the game in seedy bars and upscale hotels playing for stakes.
The Knife to a gunfight moment made me burst out laughing.
Smugglers only in the republic side, how that makes sense again?
oops I clicked reply
Lore-wise, the majority of Smugglers would much rather help the Republic than the Empire, because the former is far more lax when it comes to Smuggled goods. BH’s have a similar reason for going Empire, the Republic doesn’t like to use bounty hunters, so they get much less work.
In terms of gameplay, Bioware tried to make the classes on each side thematically different so that each one would have a unique story. It’s less interesting to have two Smuggler stories, than to have a Smuggler story and an Agent story. Jedi and Sith just tend to be different enough that writing desperate stories for them makes sense.
This makes me giggle like a little schoolgirl.
I think this may be the class I go for on the Republic side…
There is a reason why I plan on playing as the smuggler or bounty hunter in this game….
