While us in the U.S and Europe have to wait until next year to experience the Playstation Vita, Sony announced last night at the Tokyo Game Show that the highly anticipated hand-held will be released in Japan on December 17th of this year.
Thankfully, we can start speculating on prices at least. Japanese customers will be allowed to pre-order two different bundles of the system. First up is the 3G Model, priced at ¥29,980 yen, or $390.00 dollars. The Wi-Fi only version is slightly cheaper, being sold for ¥24,980, or $325.00.
But now the good news, the system will be launching with a pretty high pedigree when it hits store shelves in Japan. The biggest news is perhaps the confirmation of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 in the launch lineup, but there is a nice list of games, translated by several sources, that will be coming out for the system. The list is still unconfirmed, but if it is real, its a doozy of a launch lineup! The list is as follows:
Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3
Zone of the Enders HD Edition
Metal Gear Solid HD Edition
Uncharted: Golden Abyss
Super Robot Taisen Series
Shin Megami Tensei Series
Ys: Celceta, Sea of Trees
Katamari Damacy
Lord of Apocalypse
Ninja Gaiden: Sigma
Ridge Racer
Gods Eater Burst 2
Wipeout
Escape Plan
Sound Shapes
Touching Lots
Super Stardust Delta
Reality Fighter 0
DJ Max Technika
Browser 3 Kingdom
Bass Fishing
F1 2011
Dragon’s Crown
Already I see a ton of reconizable faces; HD remakes of Metal Gear Solid and Zone of Enders are nice bonuses by Kojima and co. and if Ys and Shin Megami Tensei are getting some love on the Vita then I will be extremely impressed. Once again this list is still incomplete and may be innacruate, but even then it is impressive in it’s own right.
Check back for updates as we go though, who knows what will change.
UPDATE: Readers have pointed out Siliconera has another list of confirmed launch titles. According to them there will be 24 at-launch titles for the Vita. Here is what they reported.

Most of these titles are from the previous list. Until I get a 100% confirmation I won’t remove anything yet, but chances are the games mentioned before, including the HD Zone of Enders and Metal Gear Solid, will be quick releases before the end of the holidays regardless.
| PROS: | Great shooting mechanics, Paintball is fun, Diverse gun selection |
| CONS: | Soundtrack is terrible, game has no story mode |
| WTF: | WTF Text Here |

yea strong launch line up ..but here is the thing i have some of those games already and the ones i do like I can get on my 360.. I like the vita i really do but they are doing way to much with it if i want to play hd console games ill play them on a damn console
Thank you EB, for letting me pre-order my PSVita already. Nice to see Vita getting the love it’s older brother never got.
… Sooo the only title on that list that I don’t already own in some form is Dragon’s Crown.
Don’t get me wrong- it’s impressive they can handle all those ports of high-end games. But they’re still PORTS. Tons and tons of ports. That might do it for some people, but not for yours truly. I want my Gravity Daze and Mayonaka Arena, and I want them post haste thank yew very much.
Now see that is a strong launch list. See Nintendo, this is pretty much how you should launch your new handheld, give games that people are excited about and want. Don’t show them off and keep them to yourselves for ages after that.
And before anyone starts moaning at me, I got a 3DS launch day, and love it. But the games available is not impressive even now. Star Fox and Zelda can only keep me amused for so long..
Ninja Gaiden Sigma? Well, that’s another good idea for a game to get on the go. Maybe get Sigma 2 on it, and this time, restore the blood. I may end up waiting a year or two for this ($250-$300 is a bit rich for a handheld IMO), but I am really liking the line up of games so far.
Day 1 purchase for me. Can’t wait!
Yeah for a starting lineup this is pretty damn impressive. No day 1 purchase for me though i’m poor and besides there are like 6 or more games that I would be interested in I would spend a shitload of money on the release day.
Michael Jackson: The Experience HD?
So… the Kinect Version WASN’T in HD? And how do you dance with the PSVita? What is this I don’t even…
Believe it or not i went onto the MJ the experience wikipedia page….apparently the Vita version, and the Vita version alone will have DLC…tons of it…
Unsurprisingly songs from the invincible album only feature as DLC
Makes sense that the Vita will only have DLC, seeing as how Sony’s Epic was the label Jackson’s estate signed to have exclusive rights until 2017.
UMvC3 on a portable system? Very surprising. I must admit I still have a hard time imagining fighting games working well on a portable system, but I guess Capcom must have done well enough with SSF4 3D to convince them this would make money or something.
Surprisingly large launch list there if it’s true. If I’m not mistaken, that’s more than double the size of the 3DS launch lineup – though I can’t help but notice that the Uncharted game everyone’s been assuming was a launch title is not on it.
Wonder what the Shin Megami Tensei game would be. Persona 4: The Golden? It’s the only announced SMT for the system so far, but then I’d expect it to be listed as “Persona series,” not “Shin Megami Tensei series.” Both were listed on the 3DS lineup back when that system was announced, so Atlus does draw the distinction that way.
Um… don’t want to pop your bubble, but the official launch lineup of 24 games have been said and yours might need an update.

Although I believe the stuff you given are confirmed to be released at some point.
Strong titles. Let’s see how many of ‘em actually hit on launch day.
