It’s as cut and paste as you get, with graphical enhancements. Why do I say that? Because it’s “smash TV”. If you can’t see that this is “Smash TV” then you didn’t play any arcade games in the 80′s.
You had your head in the sand, man….

Not that a “SmashTV” clone is a bad idea. Just for fun they should have included the “smash TV” arcade game bundled together. That would have been entertaining :P

Camera doesn’t look too bad, the last part was the end of the level and they probably just didn’t program the rest of the corridor beyond where the enemies were spilling out. It’s just the first level so it’s hard to judge exactly how the game mechanics work.

Personally I’ve never played Warhammer but it always looked like a fun concept. It does seem to give a fair bit of variety and explains a bit of the mythology, depending on how in depth it is it seems like a good jumping on point for newbies.

As far as the lack on online multiplayer that does seem pretty lazy, but I hate games that only give online co-op. If you can make an online co-op you should easily be able to make couch co-op with little extra work. Every once in a while you wanna shit talk someone sitting next to you.

Screw online co-op. Hell, screw online multiplayer. Ther have been far, FAR too many games without couch co-op. You know what me and my friend like doing? playing co-op. in the same room. On the same TV. I hate multiplayer focused games that don’t have the MOST BASIC type of multiplayer.

Black Templars NEVER deploy with psykers (Librarian). No way they’d go on that mission. And I think they were going for the “primary” chapters here. (BTs were born of Rogal Dorn’s genes – the primarch of the Imperial Fists)
Salamanders got a popularity boost lately. But no Space Wolves or Raven Guard ? Booooooh!

C’mon Joe, with the same acronym as the site you definitely should have remembered the Black Templar.

It does make sense that they’re not in the game though; they don’t deploy with psykers, so they’d need to make an additional space marine class just for them to replace the Librarian.

I’m definitely getting the idea that XBLA games aren’t even trying anymore, just implementing the bare minimum features. Another annoyance in From Dust, a god game where you manipulate elements and terrain… in objective-based missions with NO sandbox mode.

Also, I guess PC gamers are screwed out of that power sword. Thanks Relic. It’s not like we’ve been supporting the company since 1999 or anything.

I love that they’re making all of these great games for the 40k universe but holy hell I am tired of playing as a Space Marine. I’d even take playing as an Imperial Guard or something at this point…while Fire Warrior was sub-par at best at least I got to play as my second favorite race in the franchise…and of course I know we’ll never get a game where Tyranids are the main characters. :(

Philosopher Stone, Chambers of Secrets and Prisoners of azkaban has their own original style… the fourth one it just a boring beat’em’all they screwed pretty hard…

the fifth and sixth one we’re pretty correct because they wen’t back to the three firsts games genre : freedom of movements in the castle, filled of side quests and stuff to do… the problem is IMHO in their shitty camera and their bugs.

I don’t want to talk about Gears of Potter and the Deathly Locusts… omfg *epic facepalm* I can’t wait for the review…

Warhammer 40K: Kill Team Review

Angry Joe Plays Warhammer 40K: Kill Team, 6.0 out of 10 based on 1 rating

Sons of the Primarchs! Of the Emperor! My brothers. I see in your eyes the same zeal that would take the heart of me and of every alien from here to the warp. A day may come when the bulwark of the Emperor, the Space Marines, fails, when we forsake our brothers and break all bonds of duty, but it is not this day. An hour of Orks and Xenomorphs born when the Age of Men comes crashing down, but it is not this day! This day we fight! By all that you hold dear, I bid you stand! For the Emperor!

PROS Excellent presentation, Adrenaline charged game play, Cooperative play
CONS Game play becomes quickly repetitive, Short campaign, No online Co-op
WTF?! Only Player 1 can get Achievements in Co-op?

Kill Team is a brief THQ tie in to the upcoming blockbuster third person shooter Space Marine, and while not directly tied to the Ultramarine-based title due in early September, it does serve as a succulent time waster if you’re a fan of dual stick shooters at a bird’s eye view. The legion that is the Space Marines has detected an Ork Kroozer, a juggernaut of a spaceship that is heading straight towards one of the human occupied forge worlds, a place of ancient technology that directly benefits whoever controls it. The Kroozer, stocked with thousands upon thousands of Ork troopers, could lay waste to the world’s populace in a matter of days and allow the Orks a new staging planet to expand and conquer.

This is where you, a Space Marine in service to one of six deployable chapters, will have your moment of blazing glory. Either going solo or as a team or two with a friend, the servants of the emperor will seek to destroy the spaceship before it reaches its destination.

Players will be able to control four different types of marines: the Librarian (melee hero proficient in the powers of the warp), Techmarine (ranged hero skilled in the technologies of the past age), Sternguard Veteran (ranged hero with access to heavy ordinance hardware), and Vanguard Veteran (melee hero with heavy armor and an ability to quickly close gaps on enemies). The marines all have their own weapons which are unlocked when certain score benchmarks are met, along with perks that improve certain points of play.

For example, when playing as a Vanguard Vet, it is always a good idea to perk increased health for survivability, as you are the only target when playing solo, or the first thing hordes will get to in co-op. While increasing your melee damage with a perk is helpful in stemming the horde when you have your starter chainsword, it will start to become unneeded when you obtain stronger weapons like the lightning claw. That’s when it would be a good idea to use other perks like increased special move duration (which you can charge either passively or by killing enemies) or the ability to charge special moves faster.

While all marines are balanced fairly, it's hard to disavow that the Librarian is the runt of the litter.

Kill Team plays like a dual stick shooter with an overhead camera, much like Alien Swarm or Smash TV, with extra button commands to melee, special attack, and throw group clearing grenades. While the stick handling is competent for movement, the stick handling for shooting can get a bit frustrating in certain situations. There’s never a dull moment once you get onto the ship as the Ork’s reputation in the 40K lore of having an almost endless waves of combatants to cut your teeth on is certainly the case. Boyz, Nobz, Shootas, Tankbustas; they’re all here and wanting you to leave the ship in little tiny armoured pieces. To assist your crusade in combating the horde with the finest tools of murder the empire of humanity has at its disposal, there are also power ups scattered across the ship which serve as various forms of defense, offense, and recovery.

While there is no doubting that THQ Warrington has captured the essence that is the Space Marine experience, there is something to be said about how repetitive the game play is. While there is a brief respite from the Ork horde in the fourth stage, it is only replaced by ANOTHER race that revolves around extremely superior numbers (not going to directly spoil it, but if you know the 40K universe, you know who I’m talking about). The enemy types are fairly typecast and easy to deal with all hero classes, but the game does throw some interesting scenes at you to execute while dealing with the throngs of enemies thrown at you, like having to defend a vital elevator power cell from hunter seeker mines, and luring a Xenomorph killing machine into a trap as conventional weapons have no effect.

Survival levels, while fun for a brief moment, test your mettle against an endless horde of enemies until you are defeated. These levels are unlocked upon stage completion, but feel fairly artificial and unnecessary in the grand scheme of the game.

7/10

I had never heard of a “dual stick shooter” prior to this games release, primarily because every single shooter (for the last ten years or so) utilizes both sticks. Saying this is a dual stick shooter is like saying drumming is a two handed instrument, as if anything else isn’t.

However, it looks fairly sweet, and hopefully Space Marine doesn’t suck.

I am not a long time fan of the series and i don’t have a play buddy, but that being said i am loving this game and in fact using as a launching point into the Warhammer 40k universe, which i have pretty much ignored for reasons i can not for the life of me recall.

A bonus for new fans is the codex that gives you information and helps establish the flavor of the world and it is fully voice acted to boot!

Seems like a basic, fun warm-up/marketing promo for Space Marine & to generate some excitement for the upcoming release. It’s too bad Relic decided to only fire it to console.
