Brink

Players: 1 Player Offline, 8 Online Players
Publisher: Bethesda Softworks
Genres: First-person Shooter
Release Date: May 10, 2011
Developer: Splash Damage
MSRP: $59.99
Platforms:
In Brink, two factions, "Resistance" and "Security", fight in the previously utopian city known as The Ark, a floating city surrounded by the waters of a flooded Earth.[1] The Ark was designed as a prototype of a perfect city, with renewable resources and no pollution, large enough to support 5,000 residents. However, due to many refugees entering the city from other parts of the world, its population has grown to over 50,000, meaning there are not enough resources to go around - resulting in the city being on the brink (hence the name of the game) of a civil war.

This isn’t exactly a review per-say, it’s more an off the cuff live commentary (come review) of Wez and Larry’s experience of playing Brink, In Fact they didn’t even know they were being recorded. So this is totally unscripted and the emotions involved are 100% genuine, not forced or acted in a normal “Angry Reviewer” style. But it is entertaining and funny!

(In case you were wondering, “Reviewmageddeon” was a Gaming TV show in the UK Wez and Larry presented a few years ago. There’s a few episodes on YouTube if you’re interested!)

Good thing I avoided Brink then. It has already dropped down to lower than £20, then again though so has the Resist edition of Homefront on PC…

Man, Wez is full of shit.

Parkour works great, it’s more than just climing up things. You can do much more things like lighter classes can wallrun etc.

And graphics look great on my PC, stop whining if you buy it on the inferior platform.

Stopped watching the video after that, the stupidity made my head hurt.

I enjoy seeing someone get so pissed off at a game that they can’t quite articulate why they hate it so much.
I’ve seen the braindead A.I. in several review shows, the art style looks horrid to me – the most uninteresting looking game I’ve seen this generation – the graphics themselves are technically poor. Ugh.

I’d have no doubts I’d get some fun out of it online, I think it’s impossible not to have at least some fun online, but it’s so unappealing on every level that I just can’t be arsed ever getting that far. I’ve seen people trying to justify some pretty major flaws with this title while simultaneously slamming something like Call of Duty despite the latter being far more polished and varied on every level than Brink. I think those people bought into the hype with this one and are desperate to justify their outlay on it despite it’s clear mediocrity. All it adds to the Online FPS is a bit of fancy jumping mixed with the gunplay…it doesn nothing else new and is in fact far more limited than it’s competiters in terms of variety of game modes and a far weaker single player component.
You can argue that it wasn’t really meant as a single player game, but that doesn’t wash in this day and age. They included the single player mode, they should have ensured it at least matched the standards of the Killzones/CODs/Halos of the world…and from what I’ve seen in the reviews it simply doesn’t do that.

I think the problem is that this game was sold out to be a stylish shooter. But it is a Splash Damage game. A team tactical shooter. I buyed this game to have some fun with my friends, and i got it.

Most people bitching about this is mostly on console to, they are not used to these kind of games and it is a shame.
I just feel that people judge this game the wrong way. It shuld not be compared to COD, Halo or killzone. Becouse it is not meant to be that kind of game…

They markeded it like one for increased sales, and now they have to take the backlash…

Ohh, i find it funny to see a bad console port ;) Dunno, guess i like the pain of others
      sorry for my english ;S

So sick of people bitching over this game! Mostly because those who bitch about have no valid arguments as to why the game should suck!
Best reason I’ve heard is the online lag, I understand that. It is getting better with time though.
The bots aren’t really as abd as people make em out to be.
Many times people make a review of Brink you can see they obviously suck at the game. (This one included, Wez!)
If there’s something that works brilliantly it’s the s.m.a.r.t. system a.k.a. parkour. Reason you can’t do shit with it is because you’re medium body type! Want to perform nice jumps? choose light body type! “Buhuu light body type has no health!” wrong!

    Health:
    Light: 120HP
    Medium: 140HP
    Heavy: 180HP

    S.M.A.R.T. abilities:
    Heavy: Vaulting only.
    Medium: Mantle and vaulting.
    Light: Wall-hop, mantle and vaulting.

    Speed:
    Heavy: Run: 120 / Sprint: 200
    Medium: Run: 150 / Sprint: 230
    Light: Run: 170 / Sprint: 270

I’ll say again it’s important to find which play-style suits you. Afterall that’s what the game’s about.
Some weapons may be useless until you use attachments. For example the Galactic smg (UMP45 lookin’ one) Low dammage moderate stability, too low mag capacity for the weapon it is. Give it a front grip, down-vent muzzle break and a high-cap magazine. It still won’t be the best at damage, but it will allow you to spray a lot of bullets fast, and it reloads pretty fast, even with the high-cap mag.
I recommend you choose a certain class to focus on.

This is definitely one of this years best games, most just fail to see that because they are trapped in their CoD closet.

I’ve been playing this game for a bit, and yes it does have its charms… However, playing the ‘campaign mode’ by yourself offline is an excruciatingly frustrating experience… Although i will say the multiplayer aspect is good… Personally, i like the way multiplayer is set up in an MMO fashion, kind of reminds me of MAG in a way… My one gripe though is about the SMART system… If the game wants you to utilize this system then the different body types shouldn’t be locked at the beginning of the game and should be available from the start… I will agree that there is some depth to the weapon mod system and actually works well to find a style of play that suits you…

Wez, you should think before you talk, you make no valid points beside shouting that the graphic is blurry and the parkour is useless, but that doesnt make a game terrible.

You should learn to review a game properly.

This gets a 1/5 from me, because of amateurish and childish reviewer Wez.

And if you tell me now “This is an first impression” then I say: “Don’t post your frickin’ first impression because it is biased and mostly nonsensical”.

All opinions are biased, that’s why they’re not called facts. You can see both sides and acknowledge flaws to a certain extent, but at the end of the day you either liked a game or you didn’t and the flaws either turned you off the title or didn’t bother you enough to outweigh the fun you had.

In short, calling Wez biased in an insulting way is just flawed as all hell, we all are biased to a degree.

What you said Destro. Funny. i gotta say, it seems like it had a good concept in theory but such very poor implementation one has to wonder why? My guess is short development time.
