SOLD! Joe, you’ve done it again!
Note: I’ve registered solely to post a comment on this video because of a referral from a SotS 2 forum.
I should have remembered from your Sins and Civ reviews that you like 4X games.
Sword of the stars 2 is also one of my highly anticipated games for the rest of this year next to Deus Ex and BF3. All these are day 1 purchases.
Now back on-topic here. Sword of the stars 2 looks amazing in design and gameplay. When I first saw the ship bank and roll I almost fell out of my chair! That looked so cool and the fact that they are giving you added information about the ship itself, where it is hit and what kind of effect the shots had internally was exciting.
The techtree looks amazing and I cannot wait to see what new and mind-blowing technologies will be available to me(or not) and how long overtime it will take because my damn scientists are lazy-*** ASDASD@#{|…
What I also like about Kerberos is that they listen to their community. They had a poll about what the community would like to see in the next iteration of the game and they put it in. Kerberos and Paradox also don’t want to do any kind of pre-order to increase Paradox’s quarter numbers. They rather wait until they can say for sure that the game is going to done.
Now I know they have been working on this title for quite a while now and they can keep working on it even if it takes 13 years to be released. I don’t know if they will do any expansion packs but I’m sure I’ll buy any expansion pack if they ever decide to go that way.
I’m not sure what the limit is on a comment and seeing as I’m bad at endings let me finish by saying.
Thank you for the interview and thank you for the exclusive.
P.S: That guy that was in the booth is super awesome! I watched some other E3 interviews of SotS 2 and he’s cool.
And because of you I ended up downloading the first one off steam, since it was about 14$ for the game with expansions, and I must say there are plenty of issues with this game.
However, despite it’s issues it’s a very well built game, and lots of fun. Still getting the hang of it though, but if my system can handle it I’ll definately get the sequal.
Looks interesting. For some reason I always thought Sword of the Stars and Sins of a Solar Empire were similar games, but seeing this it really hits home how different the two games are. Makes me wish I had checked out the first game. 4X games have always been one of my favorite genres. I mean, I still play MOO2, made back in 1996. It says a lot about these games how long you can play them when they’re done well. (Though GalCiv2 gets more playtime these days)
I got the first Sword of the Stars from Steam after I heard Joe raving about it and I just don’t like that game at all.
The 3d map is just total horseshit, it’s impossible to keep track of where things are visually, the only way to decently manage your colonies is through the menues, and the one thing this kind of game doesn’t need is more menues and less visual interface.
Also the research system is a total joke, it just randomly omits technologies. You can play a science heavy race and just not get AI as a research path. Congratulations, you just got completely screwed.
The original game is 5 years old made by a very very small development team at the time. It can be rough around the edges, but if you stick with it till medium tech era thats when things really start to get fun. The interface and fleet management needs improvement that’s why im so excited about the sequel because it will address most of all of your concerns with more visual feedback. Also Im a fan of randomized tech trees, its a different game each time, you are supposed to work with what your race can achieve, cant obtain a tech? Research salvage ships that can take the wrecks of other races and gain their tech – a thematic and awesome way to solve that.
For a 4X combat noob like me, is the first game a good way to introduce new players?
Only if you have patience. When i first got the game the map disoriented me as all hell, and the constant AI dominance was…demotivating. But after a saw the space combat i was interested to play more. And after i got used to the 3d map and learned how to play i discovered the complete awesomness of this game. The best thing is to find something you like in the game to get you through the learning curve. If you don’t have much patience i would recommend starting off with Sins of a solar empire.
4X is my favorite genre and I was sure of X-rebirth easily being the best 4X to launch this year. Now I have to say, I’m not so sure. This game definitely looks like it could give X a run for its money. They both look amazing in their own ways. I’m sure I’ll just end up getting them both eventually anyhow… Great interview and thank you for bringing more attention to the 4X genre. Sadly, it needs every little bit it can get right now.
That sounds awesome.
Looks great!!! I can foresee a future without sins of a solar empire.
Joe, You have won me over! I will deferentially be buying this game!
give me a break will ya, its my first time getting first on a video
Does anybody else hear Linkara’s Superboy-Prime voice when they read that reply?
Awesome. I’ve been waiting for this since you talked about it in the E3 break down videos
This game reminds me of Imperium Galactica 2, which was an awesome game. Hope they bring ground battles.
Btw congratz with the exclusive joe! This just shows how this site is growing in popularity and importance. Lets hope for more stuff like this in the future!
I have never been a fan of space combat, but if this turns out to be a great game then, who knows? Maybe i will check it out. but im gonna wait and see first.
I’m so happy that you’re a fan of this series Joe. I really love it and it’s one of the best multiplayer experiences you can get in gaming IMO.
Though I would have loved to see them in motion, The Suul’ka reveal was sweet and got me even more excited then I already am. From what you were able to see, does it still look like the races will play very differently? Do you know what the Suu’ka FTL system is like?
Anyway keep up the good work. This was the interview I was most looking forward to. Thanks!
Thanks so much for covering this game Joe! I’m also very excited for it and it’s all because of you.
I’m so glad someone is looking out for some lesser known games.
This looked awesome. Especially when that carrier launched fighters and when those missile hatches opened to fire.
i can clearly see the hard work they put into the ship designs and their animations.
And you’re right Joe, i actually find myself wishing they had a later release date just so that they could add more cool stuff before release.
I would want them to make a far taller techtree if they had done so.
Lords of Winter huh? I guess the Starks will make an apperance in the human side of things. Great review, this looks like a game I might buy day 1. (Winter is coming)
Hey, Joe. Nice interview. I hope you cover more on this game. I am a huge fan of these space strategy games. Taking over galaxies and the like. Anyway goodjob. Hope you produce more in the future.
Okey joe , just to make sure i didnt mishear , did you actually say that they MIGHT be adding in ground combat ?…..cause if so …no doubt ill be buying this game i was already dead set on buying it but if tehy are actually thinkin of implementing that at some point in the future (be it SOTS 3 or an expansion ) then this will be added to one of my top franchises ever
Holy crap this was a great video Joe. I really like how professional you are, especially with the editing. I also how personal you are without being a one-sided fanboy. Really well done interview, this is the sorta stuff that makes me wish you were more popular.
Man this games looks interesting. I think I’m gonna head to the wiki you linked to get a better idea of what this series is like. not right now though, it’s kinda late from where I’m from.
