BTE3: Interview with Idol Minds, Developers of PS3 (And PSV!?) Title Ruin , 10.0 out of 10 based on 1 rating

obviously you can tell I’m a little bit excited about this game.

When the PS Vita (still called the NGP by many of the BT team, and a handful of booth attendants!) comes out this holiday season, it will attempt to realize Sony’s mission of finding the console experience a home in the portable space. And while Naughty Dog’s “Uncharted: Golden Abyss” is surely the title many think of when it comes to this goal, this year’s E3 saw the announcement of a game that takes this concept quite a lot more literally.

Created by developer Idol Minds, the team behind the PSN title Pain, Ruin (working title) is a medieval dungeon crawler which will retail as both a PS3 and a PSV title, with the ability to transfer in both directions between the two systems through cloud saving and wireless transfer. In addition to exploring this new twist on the concept of gaming boundaries, “Ruin” will also try to push the limits of its genre, with the devs. exploring ways to add “social” to the experience of action questing in a new fashion.

What exactly does that mean? How well does the transfer ability work? Do I look like a babbling idiot on camera? Find the answers to everything “Ruin” in BT’s exclusive video interview.

While it certainly looks cool, and should be commended for dabbling in some unique concepts, I definitely think “Ruin” skirts the line between staple moments and generic ones. Moreover, I’m uncertain how much Idol Minds is doing to provide players incentive to use their formula to the fullest. And on that note, there is still a bit of mystery surrounding the necessity to have just one game, or both, and how that will play out at the retail level. Looks like a very decent Diablo clone. Note that it’s not a bad thing to be one, as Torchlight is as well. I like the idea of a lot of physics objects being incorporated into gameplay and the many directions it can go with the Vita controls. My only question is: How does it actually look on a TV screen when switching to the PS3? They ALWAYS showed it at a distance. Were you specifically asked to as well?

This does look pretty good! VITA owners and fans of the genre should definitely pick this up I mean… it’s obvious there won’t be that many hack and slash dungeon crawlers specifically on VITA. If Dungeon Hunter SOMEHOW makes its way there… it doesn’t come close to the features of RUIN.

Let’s just hope that the Diablo 3 PS3 rumor is in fact a rumor cause that’s gonna put a damper on RUIN PS3. Any sane person will play D3 on PC though :D

The ONE question I want answered is: do I need to buy this game twice to play on both the PS3 and Vita? Or does one copy of the game work on both?

First impression: Looks great. Love it how the enemies are thrown back and the special kill moves. If more games come out that I’m interested for the PSV I will buy the PSV and this game for sure.
