You Dont Know Jack

Players: 1-4
Publisher: THQ
Genres: Party, Trivia
Release Date: February 8, 2011
Developer: Jellyvision Games
MSRP: $39.99
Platforms:
YOU DON'T KNOW JACK, the original quiz show party game, is back and trivia-y-er than ever! You're the contestant in a truly interactive game show experience, complete with cash, prizes, backstage characters, pounding music, bizarre sound effects and your lovable but verbally sassy host, Cookie Masterson. Play at home or online - alone or with friends - as you battle through a trivia mind-field on your way to victory, defeat or, more likely, soiled pants.

Jack is BACK! But who knows the least Jack? Play along with us in this (almost) unedited episode of VGA as we determine the LOSER!

Quick note: These episodes are pretty much unedited. If you watch our show often, you know I usually cut out almost every second we don’t talk, but in this one all of the silence was filled with the trivia questions. I made that edit, and it was annoying to follow along as a viewer, so here you are! The cool thing is you can’t see what we enter for our answers, so it’s great for playing along!

-Fraser

Fraser is a bad winner, unsubbing lolz jk Fraser is teh awesome.

I’m actually really glad you talked over the ‘host’ for that game, because he sounded really obnoxious. I don’t really like that kind of humour, it makes me want to punch people.

re: Fraser’s winning comment at the end.

As sad as it undoubtedly makes you to hear this, after seeing that, I feel like you’re my long lost brother. I felt like I was watching myself play that game. Not just similar, but identical.

I’d make a comment about never wanting to play this game with Fraser ever (seriously, I’ve had RISK games where people called me a cunt and I didn’t want to hit them as much as I wanted to hit Frasier in this game haha) but I find it really funny that he’s so proud about winning while the game announces that he’s ‘taking it from behind’. :P

    Don’t buy the PC version:
    1. Only TWO Players.
I find this extremely disappointing as there are limited episodes (73) and you’ll have to change players every round if you’ve got more than one friend.
    2. The controls are fixed to the keyboard.
    3. No online features (which means no future DLCs)

You Don’t Know Jack is definitely a lot of fun. It’s kinda sad that it’s so hard to see everything the host says because he has so many different responses if you get things wrong. You have to love some of the stuff he says.

    Also, someone else unsubbed. UNSUBBING!!!!!!!!!

This game seems like fun, though a bit too intellectual or American for me. I’m not sure which.

Man usually I am pretty good at these kind of games but I only knew a few of the questions. And yeah sadly it suffers from the game show game fault, where basically the last round invalidates all the previous rounds because you can get insane scores.

I liked YDKJ but the problem with all these quiz-show games or quiz-shows in general is that the scoring is often really messed up. And I think the worst thing to do is to make the last round so valuable that it basically invalidates all rounds before that.
The second time through showed that the Jack Attack has this problem, I estimate that you will have have no more than 10.000$ difference when you get to it and that can easily be overcome if you are quick in that last round. And they could simply count correct answers within 1 second of someone getting it right, nobody reacts that fast. They could also delay showing that the answer was right by a little to allow other people to get it right.

I agree with you about the Jack Attack. I think that it could have been reduced in value to what it used to be like and it would have been ok. The old versions also had 21 question rounds instead of 10.

That said, I’m willing to accept it is part of the genre. The reason “game show” style trivia games which YDKJ is (Or was, it was on TV) do the “lightning round” is it creates tension before the end of the show. If one contestant can’t possibly pull out a victory then there’s no tension. That’s why the Jack Attack is the way it is. It keeps that tension up and forces people in the lead to do well on the Jack Attack to keep their lead. Ultimately it’s just a different style of game.

Also in response to that. The PC version is crippled. It only allows 2 players, local play only, no DLC. The Wii version has 4 players but no DLC or online (May be wrong about the online.). The Xbox and PS3 versions both have online and DLC, but only the Xbox has the “Big Button” controllers. There are “Buzz” controllers for the PS3 but they aren’t supported. Ultimately this makes the Xbox 360 version the best version of the game. (But just barely)

The reason Question 8, game 1 is so easy is because the SUPREME pizza is the wrong answer of the game for SUPREME court children’s vitamins. You get $8,000 for picking that one, the right answer is only $4,000 (If you answer instantly).

Anyway, I love YDKJ, and it’s great with the controllers I’m about to mention below here. Only thing I don’t like is that the Jack Attack is worth a whole lot more than it used to be. Kind of makes the rest of the questions irrelevant. But then again, tivia games do that all the time.

Also, this game is really fun to use with the Big Button controllers (That’s what they’re called… and they’re officially licensed too.) that came with that crappy Scene It game. Only thing to be aware of is that when using the big button, all the prompts, instructions, even the oirentation of the answers shifts to match the controllers, but there’s a bug. After you screw someone it shows “A” as the button to select the screwee, but it’s actually “Y”.
