Angry Joe Plays one of his favorite songs on Michael Jackson: The Experience for Kinect, check out how he does and his first impressions of the game!
We haven’t seen much media on the Kinect & Move versions of Michael Jackson: The Experience, that combined with the delays to both games has Angry Joe worried about the King of Pop’s new game.

Music Mondays revisits the band that brought us tunes from Scott Pilgrim vs. the World and Bit.Trip Runner.
worst singing ever joe:(
Ubisoft already used the best of the best MJ’s songs. They will repeat some in the sequel or choose good-but-not-so-epic ones?
I think that instead of Joe rating his games by a 1-10 scale I think the scale should have “F**CKING FOUR HOURS?!” as the lowest and “Seal of Badass” as the highest
What the hell is this shit Joe? C’mon what happened to non PC and non dance kinect game reviews I could care less seeing you dance around like an idiot (No offence) why haven’t you done any movie reviews lately? I been really looking forward to them but you have stopped completely.
Fuck Kinect all those games are bad, every god damned one. THATS IT! REVIEW OVER.
There’s no time for that. He has to prove that he’s a professional game journalist and a great leader for this site. Losing $1,500 over something that multiple people could’ve done for far less is something you tell people as a positive aspect when questioned about your decision capabilities. Then again I wouldn’t know better just because there isn’t someone with my name who works here.
That opening bit cracked me up! This was a really entertaining review although I think the rating was being too generous. Especially because it’s mainly made on Jackson’s name alone.
Hey Joe, I think you will like this vid:

Apparently there’s a girls school in China where they start each day off with a dance to Michael Jackson’s Dangerous.
Joe cries sparkles.
Hey Angry Joe! Why don’t you make ‘Top 5 Reasons Why Guild Wars 2 will kick ass!’ that game has impressed me on every turn. They even announced Charr week this week! Along with an official trailer and ‘special announcement’ on Thursday! I’m so hyped!
Also a Player feedback for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Now that more info is released… I’m not liking it. The only reason I’m watching is BioWare. Giving a player feedback would definitely help! After all, BioWare doesn’t ignore what the players want!
I’m disappointed they ruined it. I was thinking of buying it but not now. I almost died laughing on your intro.
Another awesome show from Angry Joe, shamone.
Great vid Joe.
And here’s hoping for better days. MJ deserves better.
MANY, many thanks for the heads up about this version.
I’ll have to admit now that I’m torn between either going for this version or the Wii/PS3 version because of the fact that, as you’ve mentioned, seems so inconsistent with not having as good a presentation for the training and such. I’ve played the Wii version before and yes, the detection on the game is extremely spotty at times where I knew I’ve hit quite a bit of the moves and said I didn’t. But, at least on that version, all I had to worry about was just dance and had to really be active for all the moves that had to be done and that was what I enjoyed.
But, to have to dance and sing, that’s going to be a challenge since I’m not as good as I used to be for singing (I’m more like Neil Tennant of the Pet Shop Boys for vocal quality and strength) and some of the moves that was done on the Wii has been taken off for the Kinect which seems a bit of a shame (quite a bit of them were actually fun to do and provided a nice workout). Overall, I’m going to do a checkout big time of this game and see where the faults lie and just maybe, I’ll pick it up, otherwise, I’ll pass.
I am an owner of the Wii version, and I love that thing to pieces. Admittedly, I will concede the dance detection is not the best, and at times it does become frustrating. That being said, I adore the music, the moves, and the aesthetics of the game. There’s only a couple song I am disappointed that didn’t make it, the moves are almost dead-on Michael (and what moves they had to make up, you could see him doing), and every song has a unique look, with dynamic backgrounds.
From what I can tell by watching about five videos of the Kinect version, the only thing that has really carried over is the music, and while I love me some Blood on the Dance Floor, I’m not sure I like the tradeoff for that one song at this point in time.
The dance moves in the Kinect version may be harder than they look (I shadowed a couple of them, I can agree), but they’re uninspired and they rarely fit very well. Hell, Thriller has Bad-era crotch grabbing in it! WHY?
Everything I loved about the Wii version other than the music itself did not seem to make it into the Kinect version, and with that I am immensely disappointed. I loved the backgrounds of the songs; they made them look like the actual videos, and when they didn’t have a video to work off of, they did a bang-up job on making original scenarios. The way they changed, the way the world around him and his crew would come alive to the music… It was an awe-inspiring thing to witness, and oftentimes when I’m watching someone else play, I’ll watch the background more closely than the routines, just to see it in action.
The moves are also much more accurate to what Jackson did, to the point that virtually every major portion of Thriller’s famous dance were successfully translated. They even have the shuffling that’s heard in the video! How awesome is that?! Other songs have this really great touch as well, like They Don’t Care About Us. This feature was an small, but amazing touch, and it’s arguably one of my favorite smaller features.
The loss of all of these things I enjoyed from the Wii version make me extremely skeptical towards the Kinect version and how much fun I’ll be able to derive out of it. I did love Dance Central, and I’d have loved a Kinect MJ game based on DC where the moves were as accurate as the moves in the Wii Experience and you could play more as Michael, but this doesn’t seem to be the case here, and I’m saddened by that.
I felt like the score was going to be a 5 by the way you were describing the final product. What’s more, I thought a six was “above average”, not “alright”.
5 could also be called “mediocre”. Even with all the bad points to this game, I doubt it could be called that.
I still have hopes that a sequel can be made… If Ubisoft is smart they can make a system kinda like Rock Band 2 where you can upload all the songs from the previous game for free (if you own it that is)…. or simply buy then by DLC. That way, not only could they increase their sales through DLCs and the sequel (im not corporate commander i swear) but also have a chance to make Michael fans justice.
I really was considering to buy the kinnect just for this game, but as it is… its a shame…
Yo, joe. love the jacket man. that shit is tight. I’m not a big jackson fan but i like the obvious ones. my big question is, why he continued with the children thing after the first incident? but regardless a talented man. love the dance games joe. i can tell you love them. they are fun, especially with friends. you know its thriller.
“Weird Al” Yankovic – Eat it
“Weird Al” Yankovic – Fat
I’m spade and keep it funky.
Cool jacket you got there Joe.
You know what I think should have happened? Harmonix should have got permission to make a MJ Dance Central. That would have been a legendary game.
I kind of doubt we’d see an actual Michael Jackson Experience 2-just because you usually expect new songs from a rhythm game sequel and from the sound of things MJE already has most of the fan favorites already. They’d probably do a sort of half-sequel like Michael Jackson Experience Enhanced or something where the gameplay is refined, most of the problems people had are fixed and a few extra songs are thrown in for good measure. This sort of thing would work best as patch or even paid DLC at a reasonable price-but I doubt Ubisoft or any game company would make a decision like that.
The only problem I’ve ever had with Angry Joe is his dogged insistence that every single game have online multiplayer.
I disagree, and in fact I think online multiplayer is killing local multiplayer, which is the version I prefer to play.
Other than that I love him, and he raises alot of good points here.
I love your costumes and skits Joe. It really drives home your intensity and excitement for the video game world. Please keep it up.
p.s. now I want a MJ jacket like that
I smell a Fetish Fuel page being updated. Smooth Criminal Joe is HOOOTTT!
Hey Joe. They reason why I like you isn’t the dressing up, sketches or any other crap. Honestly I really could do without. The reasons (to me) why you’re a good reviewer is because you’re honest and when you’re polite to the industry without industry love-juice dripping out of your mouth.
Now I feel better about being an unreasonable douche and saying Ubisoft is a game COMPANY. Emphasis on the company part. They bought the MJ IP so they could bank big and quick. Ubi has a marvelous track record for spawning winning game concepts, managing (game) projects, and creating technically adequate games devoid of any and all love for the concepts or source material involved. They will NEVER make a MJ game that will do justice to the legend. They will never make a spinter cell game that lives up to the hype. They will never make a satisfying and ballanced Assasins Creed game. I even believe (off the top of my head) they’re the biggest publisher of shovelware. If something you love is being developed by Ubi you can start stocking up on cartons of wine because it’ll take a lot to wash down.
Stay free Joe.
Uh… Pretty much everyone -I- know is not only satisfied with the Assassin’s Creed games, but loves them >.> They’re one of the few game series that are constantly improved and expanded with every sequel. Hell, they even came up with an original and interesting multiplayer for the last one!
And most people enjoyed the last Splinter Cell game, too. I know I did.
So I’m not quite sure where you’re coming from here. Ubisoft really isn’t a company I’d describe the way you did at all.
Well I like the Mortal Kombat movie. That doesn’t make it a good movie. ^_^;;
I know loads of people enjoy Ubisoft games. Hell I even buy some of them when they’re in the bargain bin. My point is: Ubisoft, moreso that maybe even Activision, is a company. Ubi just doesn’t promote itself to be a powerhungry digital smackdealer that’ll try and stick a needle in your arm even if you’re just walking by. Ubisoft has somehow maintained the image of the little French game-developer that could, while every game reviewer commends them for their effort and gumption. Heck Ubisoft manages to make games feel culturally relevant unlike Electronic Arts (*cough*MirrorsEdge*cough*). And commending that relevants makes game reviewers feel all warm and fuzzy inside (either that or they get bribed).
With that I think I know what people like about Ubisoft games. They feel cool, empowering, and somehow you feel justified playing it. Kinda like watching the matrix! Just. You know. . . technically the Matrix isn’t a good movie either. Don’t get me wrong. I enjoyed the first one, but even that was a mediocre film.
Back to the games! Assasins Creed. Game about a clever assasin doing parkour and killing people with cool animations in an accurate historic setting, and a twist ending. Feeling cool: check. Empowering player: check. Justified playing: check, it’s hitorically accurate afteral. Also: poor AI, no multiplayer, little replayability, simplistic gameplay, repetative gameplay, sub-par plot, sub-par characters. Then AC2. Basically the same game but they added an improved in game economy that was still broken. More replayability, if you like collecting stuff. More varied gameplay, going from toast to buttered toast is an improvement. A more fleshed out historical setting. I could go on but honestly I don’t feel like it (sorry! ^^;;). So AC2:B. Multiplayer. Google Penny Arcade Mount Doom and read comic. This is a problem noted by people who love the franchise as far as I can tell. I would like to note once again Brotherhood’s multiplayer is a good concept, and a logical step if you consider the single player. Ubi just didn’t sink in the money to make it worth your time.
The AC franchise is a good example of a generic Ubi franchise. Start with a simple (relatively) low dev-cost game and incrementally improve with little investment. Take no chances altering core mechanics or even implement technical changes that would force alteration of core mechanics. Meaning AI for the AC franchise will evolve as little as possible, crowd interation will evolve as little as possible, combat will evolve as little as possible, multiplayer will receive a limited amount of attention if they proceed down the current path. However expect expanded historical settings, more elaborate environements, attempts as varried missions, different (seemingly historically accurate) weapons, increase is scripted missions and dialogue, perhaps even some extended cover-gunplay action in the real world. Most game reviewers commend any studio that innovates and improves, that a studio would start to misuse these beliefs was only a matter of time. The only reason their franchises improve is because almost any change is an improvement. They mask corporate pragmatism with art house style and good intentions. Think about the last non-Ubi IP they developed (Avatar?). Was it any good? If you have expectations of how a franchise should be the odds are high Ubisoft will disappoint simply because of their business model.
Game development for current generation consoles takes a lot of resources. Maintaining engines and modeling is more resource intensive than ever before. Games will continue to become more expensive. I can respect that, but I like gaming. Every so often I’d like to see a big name publisher do something new (and if possible innovative) without reservation because they think it’s something the world needs to play. That way I can keep dreaming that the industry isn’t being lost to the coca-cola marketeers. As long as reviewers and consumers keep on commending Ubisoft for mediocrity they will never give me that game. Maybe I’m the only nerd that thinks so though.
you know sometimes i imagine a better world for the gamers, a world with better prices for better games, a world with good DLC, o world with good secuels for our favorites games, a world with duke nukem being released, and for god sakes a world without angry joe….. my god this guy it’s an asshole… i don’t know i just hate him …. and grrrrrrrrrrr those stupids costumes he wear!!!
well there is a easy way to fix that, stop wachting his shows, no one says you have to.
He is on the internet, with a system where you have to press play to see the show. He is not on TV where you se the show becouse you are flipping channels. Just dont go press the link to his rewiev and dont press play on the video!
I really have to agree with that MegaGame, I’m never gonna understand comments like kslider’s.
This is an internet show. Other then this one site, or Joe’s own site, you’ll never see this show anywhere else. You’ll never seen ads for internet shows, nor TV ads. So if you don’t like something, all you have to do is not watch it.
So why do people post comments like kslider’s? It’d be like me saying I hate a certain store, a store that only has one location in the entire world. But I choose to hang out in front of it, screaming at people passing by that I hate it.
That just makes zero sense. But it’s pretty much what people like kslider do. I think they do it for attention, since negative attention is still attention.
I’d probably pity people like that, then hate them.
Though looking at kslider’s other comments, it’s pretty obvious he’s just a troll trying to get attention.
let me explain something i’m not trolling here… but not every comment must be go A+ joe you know… the comment space it’s for express our ideas and stuff… but yes i’m not expresing any idea with my comment about joe..i’m just expresing hate… sory guys… I couldn’t resist … i’m not gonna keep doing this every time he upload a video i promisse… but OMG i hate so much all his preformances, and that thing with the cobra commander, (and those F$·$· costumes), it’s so lame…. ok ok i will stope it now…. i will watch some cool stuff and calm down sorry for avery single joe fan arround (geez!)… please don’t say i’m a troll…. you bastards !!!!
oh yes that’s what i’m gonna do. maybe i can find some reviews adult oriented
Well yeah, but there’s really no point in just leaving a message saying you hate something, when you can just avoid it altogether. It just seems pointlessly cruel and negative.
I think you could understand why people would think you’re a troll for doing that.
this account sounds a lot like mort’s, just sayin….
Sentences that go on for an eternity. Not documenting a track record to back up those accusations to be debated amongst the community. Doesn’t say anything to make Joe reply in a disorganized fashion (compared to his pre-written response) because he hit a nerve.
Clearly that’s me smart ass.
if you hate him so much just stop watching his show and problem solve!!! you only make your self look like a troll
IF you dont have anything nice to put down… then really why put anything at all It seems you did want to personally attack Joe.. if you want PM me and let me know what we can do to help if you want.
Thanks,
PK
It’s a shame that Ubisoft didn’t pull out all the stops with this one despite the great chance they were given through Michael’s music. I may not be too interested in the Kinect overall, but if there is one thing the Kinect can do right, it’s dancing games. I am a bit dissappointed by this.
Overall, good video Joe. I can see why you feel the way you do and I also hope that if there is a sequel, Ubisoft will do everything it can to make the game awesome.
Hate to be the Harbringer of bad news, but if this game sells well. Ubisoft are more likely to do a different artist instead of Michael Jackson for the sequel. You only need to look at the Guitar Hero Franchise to see this. Why put in the effort of fixing a game when you can release the same game with the same engine just with different songs and a different artist on the front.
That’s my problem with the current generation of dance games. They are sloppily made and the sequels aren’t doing anything to improve it, instead opting to put in new songs instead hoping people will eat it up and buy them. This is much more obvious with the Just Dance Series on Wii Which in that last 2 years already has 5 different games (Original, Broadway, MJ:Experience on Wii, Kids and 2) with only the 5th game adding any gameplay changes. And as far as Ubisoft is aware, since the games are selling like crack, they don’t need to change anything about it.
And considering how this game already sold a lot on the Wii, well… don’t be too shocked if come 2012, you can buy “Justin Bieber: The Experience”.
*CRINGE CRINGE, SHUDDER SHUDDER…*
well then. looks like it’s back to moonwalker on the mega drive. HEEHEE
Wow “Joe, you sparkle!”
… I’m so sorry..
Dang it, Joe, you’re just trying to prove how much better you are at the Thriller Dance than me, aren’t you? XD
Anyway, great review – was expecitng a 5/10 given the balance you presented here.
I think we need a video of you doing Thriller in your Green Ranger suit, but I don’t think it will be released in some set schedule. I”ll expect it to be done when it’s done and released when it’s done.
More singing Mister Vargas!
I do not own a 360 and if I planned on having one, I definitely will get it without the Kinect unless you make a dancing game right, especially MJ! I really wanna try this out but yeah, the singing part isn’t my cup of tea. This kinda of game is directed towards me and my goofy ass, I WANT to make those moves, I WANT get it on with MJ songs! Please, make it again Ubisoft and do it like the fans want it! The Kinect has a lot of potential for dancing games, much better then anything on the market right now and I want it to be successful. Dance Central was fun playing at a friends house but it need it something more and that something is Michael Jackson. I just hope we get a sequel, heres me asking for one Ubisoft, a fan of dancing games and a fan of MJ.
Thanks a lot Joe! Hopefully this review will catch their eyes.
Smooth Criminal Joe looks kinda hot. Lots of costumes for these two reviews. (Including his play of Beat It)
Aaah, I have expected something like a big Training mode with a virtual Michael Jackson actually talking to the player, reacting to the player’s training performance (or better: communicating with the player in Milo style). Or at least something similar to Michael’s act in “Space Channel 5 pt. 2″.
Kinda hard for them to do that now, since. Well. You know.
Ubi kinda made it look like you’re puking stardust @7:45
Can there be a sequel weren’t his biggest songs used (wasted) in this one
Sequel please.
Thats so unfortunate. From what I see this game is just simply disrespectful to the memory of Micheal Jackson. It’s almost as if Ubisoft only made this game to gain profit off of his name and memory.
A person like MJ, with probably the greatest dance moves in the last century, deserved the best dancing game, and sadly he didn’t.
If they make a sequel it better live up to his memory.
MJ was disrespectful to himself.
His music may have been great but a lot of his own actions was not something most people would respect. He is a great man as a musician and a business man in his media. Not so much in everything else.
Of course ubisoft was trying to cash on his name and it seems to be success.
I’d bet they are already working on a sequel.
well since the kinnect works on windows 7 here’s hoping they port it to PC *hopeless idealism*
this game came out waaayyy too late.. I think everyone forgot it existed after the Wii version released
Well, this is interesting…
