what? no battlefield 3?
My top list
1. Mass Effect 3
2. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
3. StarCraft II: Legacy of the Void
4. Nuclear Dawn
5.Max Payne 3
6. Warhammer 40k: Space Marine
7.Deus Ex: Human Revolution
8.Elder Scrolls: Skyrim
9. Star Wars: The Old Republic
10. Darkpsore
I just realized I put Deus Ex twice so instead I will just throw Bioshock: Infinite on my list.
While I like a few things on this list, I do think it a bit unfair to leave out Portal 2. I’ve been anticipating this since the first trailer I saw in mid-to-late 2010. Though I can agree with some things I saw on the list that I was confused about before. I look forward to getting into some of these hopefully, and you did make me want to play Guild Wars 2 really bad. NO SUBSCRIPTION FEE!!!
boring
Thanks for telling me about a couple of games that I would have missed out on.
Really looking forward to Guild Wars and Skyrim now thanks again.
Hum. I knew from your tweet that you haven’t Portal and Batman: Arkham Asylum, so the lack of their sequels isn’t a surprise. I was kinda hoping you’d put The Witcher 2 until the last second. Still, not a bad list. Mine looks like this:
6. The Secret World
5. Guild Wars 2
4. Batman: Arkham City
3. Deus Ex: Human Revolutions
2. Portal 2
1. The Witcher 2
I’m also expecting some indie goodness throughout the year.
no Witcher 2 ? ah, Americans…
interesting list.. but whats up with your voice? You sound boared and ready to fall asleep. Brought the whole video down. Put some emotion into the voice over!
>Implying you are a racist asshole
>Implying he’s both a racist and an asshole
>implying you are a fucking racist and he is not a mexicans fool!
My list:
)
1. Witcher 2: assassins of kings (I love the first one, I love Sapkowski’s books… so, I think I gonna love the second game too)
2. BF3 (same story… I like previous games for multiplayer)
3. Alice: Madness Returns (That’s gonna be great just because of McGee’s imagination… and I love the first one
4. Batman AC (It’s the goddamn Batman!!!)
5. Elder Scrolls V Skyrim (Oblivion and Morrowind in one game, but even better?! Any questions why it’s in my top?)
Joe…. of all people I thought you would have Aliens: Colonial Marines on the list
I guess it’s supposed to come out 11.11.11 which sounds ridiculous with Skyrim being released then, unless yet again they are pushing this game back
My list for this year
1. Mass Effect 3
2. Battlefield 3
3. L.A. Noire
4. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
5. Elder Scrolls V Skyrim
6. Crisis 2 ( waiting to get on new PC)
all the rest am not bothered about but these games are what am getting this year for sure!
Skyrim – So good you showed the trailer twice.
Ok list
Mine is:
1 – Batman Arkham City (I’m surprised you of ALL PEOPLE DIDN”T LIST THIS!!!)
2 – LA Noire
3 – Mass Effect 3
4 – Shogun 2 (same state with Crysis 2)
5 – Crysis 2 (Out now but don’t have it yet!!)
Sorry to sound like a douche, Joe, but Skyrim is not pronounced “Scrim.” It’s pronounced how it looks: Sky-rim.
^ Because it’s been 13 years and Joe may have gotten tired of waiting.
As for Diablo 3, I’m sure Joe has his legitimate reasons why this didn’t make his list. I’d like to him to see him share his concerns about it.
Back on Joe’s Let’s Play Dragon Age II demo, I asked what he thought of the new trailer for Skyrim.
I guess I just got my answer.
I am a long time fan of the Elder Scrolls, back to the days of Daggerfall II, when Bethesda wasn’t as popular.
And yeah I know they may not be able to deliver on all there promises, and that dialog with an npc may end up with them turning around and humping a wall when they talk to you.
But still, a fixed leveling system, the ability to duel wield, and most importantly fightable Dragons for the first time in a Elder Scrolls game.
This one is on my Christmas list for sure.
Nice list Joe.
Here are mine:
-Mortal Kombat(9). I played the demo and i was impressed with it. It’ll be out next month!
-Duke Nukem Forever. I know this has been delayed AGAIN! I don’t expect this to be and grand epic title 12 years in the making but to be a solid title all around.
-WWE Smackdown vs. Raw 2012. Hey, I’m a sucker for Wrestling.
-LA Noir. Looks good so far and I hope all the CoD fanatics can take the time to play it as well.
-Batman: Arkahm City. If it’s as good as Arkahm Asylum, then we are in safe hands.
-Twisted Metal PS3. It’s what makes me glad to have a PS3 now!
-The Last Guardian. From the makers of Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, I’m looking forward to this.
-Kid Icaru Uprising. Finally a new KI game. I just need to get a 3DS first…
What, no Duke Nukem Forever? I’ve been “most anticipating” that game for a decade or so now!
I can not wait for Guild Wars II.
Oh, almost forgot
6. last but not least is Mortal Kombat
Nice list Joe, now here’s mine:
1. Duke Nukem Forever
2. Portal 2
3.L.A. Noire
4. Gears Of War 3
5. Batman Arkham City
I couldn’t play Oblivion to the end, I found it boring. I think I can see what people love about the series, but Oblivion was disatisfying for me. The story didn’t get me hooked, characters were too ugly, etc, etc.
I feel if Skyrim fix those things, it may become a favorite of mine. So I’m looking forward to it as well. The only thing I’ve seen that I dislike, visualy speaking, is the arms and how they stay in your view in a weird way. The same with Oblivion… So I hope they do have a better storyline (even if small because ti’s an open world game u_u)… The animations still look clunky, but at least the characters are normal looking now!
I think it’s hilarious how people say Battlefield 3 is the most anticipated game.
“Oh, my most anticipated game is another boring, repetitive, generic FPS which will be just like any other FPS game ever made. I TOTALLY LOOK FORWARD TO THAT!”
-_-
I do gotta say though, the Battlefield series is not a generic or stale FPS series. Battlefield 3 is going back to the BF 2 formula, with huge maps and many vehicles, and they’re also trying to make a better shooter in many ways, from the animation and effects to the atmosphere. I think it’s valid to be excited. The FPS genre doesn’t need to die, it just needs to evolve. Anything that tries to do that is welcomed.
I find that Angry Joe’s taste of games is similar to mine. I have Skyrim and Mass Effect in the top of my list too. I don’t know about Desus Ex, because I haven’t played the older one, but I might give them a try.
Skyrim also means Fallout with the same engine. Maybe it’s too early to wait for that, but I’m still exited about it.
BTW…the company is not “I.D”., it’s “id”, as in the id, the ego, and the super-ego.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Id,_ego_and_super-ego
While we’re on the subject, it’s “especially, not “x-specially”, and “nuclear” is pronounced “new-clear”, not “new-q-lur”
LOL yeah because Joe would know what THEY are!
WHAT THE FUCK!!!! ARE YOU A RETARD!!!! WTF!
You can put some stupid half assed sparkly dancing game and not list
DUKE NUKEM FOREVER
AND
BATTLEFIELD 3?
WTFFFFFFF
WTF IS THIS SHIT. FUCK THIS.
AND
THE WITCHER 2 ASSASSIN OF KINGS??? WHERE IS THAT??????????
Dude, this is his list.
Go rage somewhere else. Who knows maybe you’ll earn internet fame.
I can simply imagine the PC rig that is going to be needed to run Guild Wars 2. I doubt my simple box won’t run it at full potential 8P
Huh… no one sang it… oh well… guess I will:
“HOLY SHIT, WHAT IS THIS?!
FORGED IN GOD’S VERY FLAMES!
DO MINE EYES TELL ME LIES,
A NEW ELDER SCROLLS GAME?
TIME IS NIGH, I MUST FLY,
VENTURE FORTH ON MY QUEST!
GOODBYE MA, GOODBYE PA
AND GOODBYE GIRLFRIEND’S BREASTS!
I’LL BE OFF AZEROTH, CATCH YOU LATER HYRULE!
I’LL BE GONE ALBION, I’M NO LONGER YOUR FOOL!
OTHER CRAP FILLED THE GAP
WHILE I WAITED TO BEGIN…
THE ADVENTURE OF MY LIFE
IN THE LAND OF SKYRIM!”
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c9eGtyqz4gY
So that makes two people we won’t be seeing for a while once this game comes out.
While I wish I could afford more games, not everything I would want anyway. If anything, there is only one game I could ever want this year…Tales of Graces F!
If it they port it to XBox360 or Wii then I will definitely be able to finally buy it. Because A. I don’t have a PS3, B. the original was on Wii anyway and I feel cheated that Namco never localized it, and C. I really want to play another Tales game again! Story, characters, I want it all back! NAAAMMMMCCOOOOOO!!!!!
…okay…I’m cool now…so um…yeah, nice list Joe. Though one thing for Guild Wars II (would like but again, putting interesting in Tales atm), the dragon in the trailer is a Deathwing clone. I mean look at that! It’s like they took out most of his skin and turned him completely purple.
My top 5 games that I really want to get this year are:
1. Ninja Gaiden 3
2. Duke Nukem
3. Fear 3
4. Dead Island
5. Mortal Kombat
I like games with extreme bloody violence!
Morrowind: Tried it many times. Hated it after putting many hours in and starting over many times.
Deus Ex 1: Tried the demo tutorial training room, didn’t like it, never tried the single player sections because I was annoyed by the tutorial.
Guild Wars: Tried it and HATED IT! Stupid AI partners, people you join with leave you to die mid mission, blah blah blah. I literally got to a point where I couldn’t get any further in the game due to the above 2 reasons and my friends not showing up to play.
They would have to make some EARTH SHATTERINGLY MASSIVE changes to the above games for their next installments for me to even look at them without an immediate feeling of disgust.
Really only have 3 games I’m dying to get my hands on this year.
1. Guild Wars 2 (Hopefully)
2. Mass Effect 3
3. Battlefield 3
This strikes me as an excellent list, though I do find myself frequently disappointed that you don’t own any Nintendo systems. Perhaps you’ll purchase the 3DS? Think of it as a way to expand your army of quality and justice!
how the fuck can u forget about DUKE NUKEM FOREVER!!! its more anticipated then any other game
Great list Joe!
Those all look like amazing games!
I’ll post up some games that I’m looking forward to, but not ten. There aren’t a ton of games coming out this year that I’m super excited for, and some of the ones I was excited for have already come out. ^^; But here they are:
1.) Mass Effect 3 (kdsgkegnkejfdsng YUS!!!!!!!! 8D)
)
)
)
2.) Portal 2 (Loved the first, can’t wait for the sequel!
3.) The Last Guardian (Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite video games, so I can’t wait to see this game as well!
4.) Skyrim
5.) Guild Wars 2 (This is the first MMO that I’ve wanted to play. XD)
6.) Deus Ex 3 (Lol, I’ll probably suck at this game since I’m no good at first-person shooters, but it still looks totally awesome!
Those are the games that I’m most excited for this year!
I’ll give my top 5..
1. Tales of Graces F (if it get release this year Namco said it’s coming Soon >_>)
2. Street Fighter 4: Arcade Edition ( Even if it’s just an DLC Upgrade it’s hypes up the competitive fighting game scene)
3. Duke Nukem Forever (Aww YEAH!!!)
4. Battlefield 3 (Not really a fan of FPS but it looks amazing)
5. Final Fantasy XIII-2 (what can I say I love my JRPG)
Plus any new JRPG if there’s anymore announced this year…
6.Mass effect 3:.. had to add this one….
5. Deus Ex Human Revolution: So what if I am not that big of a fan of the original, I LOVE First Person Shooter RPG’s, and this one looks AMAZING!!!
4. XCOM: I don’t care about the changes made to the series, I can’t believe how amazing fighting the enemies look in the game. The black blobs are already a better enemy than the usual humanoid alien enemies, as well as after reading about the gameplay in an issue of PCGAMER, I know this is going to be a good one. The blobs are more of a threat than you will realize, after the fact that they can’t be killed with conventional guns.
3. Resident Evil: Mercenaries| This is the sole reason I am getting a 3DS, the fact that it is Resident evil’s mercenary mode coupled with 4 player co-op, first person aiming, MOVING WHILE SHOOTING FOR THE FIRST TIME IN THE SERIES, and unlockables is already a must buy for me without the 3DS’s amazing 3D effects.
2. L.A. Noire: Red Dead sold me in on this one,
1.Duke Nukem Forever: Why wouldn’t this be at your #1 slot??
I am right there with you on skyrim. I don’t think I have ever been this excited for any video game except maybe oblivion. I will probably fail out of college when that game comes out.
The Skyrim trailer is amazing. It looks too good to be true.
I’m sorry, Joe, but WHERE THE FUCK IS “BATTLEFIELD 3″?!
Oh well, here’s my top 5 list:
5. LA Noire
4. Skyrim
3. Brink
2. Mass Effect 3
1. Battlefield 3
Mass Effect 3 is on top of my hype list. I love the first 2 games so much. Heres to more Mass Effect games which hoepfully will not be a reboot.
TES V: Skyrim is my most anticipated game. Im a huge fan of the TES Series since Morrowind. It was awesome. But oblivion was dissapointing as a TES fan because if the break in the enviroment. (Stag? reallly? Where are the guars, nix hounds and mass amounts of cliff racer -.-)
But still oblivion was a good game. If they iron out the flaws TESIV had skyrim will be awesome. Its a day 1 buy for me.
A lot of games on this list I haven’t heard of yet. I remember xcom from Spoony’s coverage last year and that’s it for that game. All the games look interesting and I can’t really make comments since I’m also looking forward to the big ones like L.A Noir and ME3.
But the one I’ll comment on is GW2. I’m looking forward to it but one thing bugs me. It doesn’t seem very mmorpg-ish it just seems like an online rpg you can play with multiple people. The epic choices = dynamic change in the world just doesn’t sit right. Unless the game plays in several instances (where the game goes into a solo npc filled environment) to execute the epic story telling it doesn’t work in my opinion.
Also Deus Ex looks like GHOST IN THE SHELL. Granted maybe GITS was inspired by Blade Runner, but when I see the way the weapons, the mechs, and robotic limbs work I think GITS.
I MUST THANK YOU ANGRY JOE, first off, you showed me guild war 2, i was like, meh… yea it looks good.. but im not getting.. BUT NOW, THERE IS NO SUBSCRIBTION FEE!! and the things you showed me were AMAZING, i can’t wait for it!!! SEGUND, deus ex 3 is certainly going to be amazing, but its not going to be as good as Deus Ex 1, definitly, the first one is a master piece, before playing the third one, as you are going to be presented to the series, try the first one, theenn your going to put that deus ex 3 on your segund place, now, about skyrim, IM a huge fan of bethesda studios, i’ve been with then for the past 10 years, playing their games, and now, because of them, i know what i wanna do for living, AND i wanna work at bethesda, skyrim was simply to much, there is nothing in the world whos going to beat that game for me.
Actually, that’s all the more reason for Angry Joe to play this upcoming prequel first. Then, if the original really is so superior, he’ll be impressed by it even if he plays it AFTER Human Revolution. He won’t be preconditioned to believe that the first is the best.
Damn… Too many fantasy rpg elfs & orks games. Plus something that looks like star trek and thus it gets a meh from me.
I’ve never seen anything interesting about Mass Effect either.
Here’s my top 10:
01- Infamous 2
02- Mortal Kombat
03- Batman: Arkham City
04- Ghost Recon: Future Soldier
05- Portal 2
06- The NGP (Not really a game, and I don’t know if it’s out in 2011… But still.)
07- Battlefield 3
08- The Last Guardian (The graphics look amazing)
09- Brink (The anticipation has grown tired during its long development time)
10- Silent Hill: Downpour (I’ve never understood the hype of this franchise, even looking at the games fans say are good, look bland to me. I hope this new title can show me what’s so great about Silent Hill)
How can Mortal Kombat not be on the list? I don’t get it… But it’s your list, it’s your choices.
And I agree with Rage, that game looks sweet.
10.Xcom- Never heard of it.-_-
9.MIchael Jacson- Looks like an awsome dance game but for thouse that aren´t huge fans of dancing (me) are just gona let it slide.
8. Rage- First time i saw this i said “Look its the son of Borderlands” and then i thought “And thats bad why?”.
7.L.A Noir- I got sick of Rockstar their games have a very similar taste so i alwais felt like i was plaiyng GTA even wile plaing RDR but with the new detective stuf in this one and the new tecnologi put into it i think il give it a shot.
6.Sword of the Stars 2- Never heard of it, but i don´t like stratagy games so i don´t folow them.
5.Deus EX 3- HELL YES since i saw the treiler i fell in love with this game even though i cant stop thinking that it has elements of Crysis (weapon equips like shights and invisibility).
4.SW:Old Republic- YES great game but like Joe said the grafics and stuff like that leave allot to be desired : /.
3. Guild Wars 2- Awsome MMO with FREE SUBSCRIPTION i dare you to find a decent MMO that has no subcription fee.
2.Mass Efect 3. IT´S MASS EFECT. PLAY THE OTHER MASS EFECT GAMES IF YOU DON´T KNOW WHAT HE MEANS BY THAT.
1.Skyrim-Never heard of it, BUT AFTER I SAW THE THIS I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS GAME, all cool features anyone is loking in an RPG, he sais everithing god damit.
Now my list:
5.inFAMOUS 2
4.Deus EX
3.BRINK
2.Portal 2
1.TWISTED METAL!!!!!!!
I’ve got my own list:
1. Duke Nukem Forever
2. Portal 2
3. Mortal Kombat
4. Infamous 2
5. Twisted Metal
6. Batman: Arkham City
7. L.A. Noire
8. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
9. Catherine
10. Tomb Raider
For the multi-platform games, I’m getting the PS3 version, as I do not yet own a 360.
i wonder how many of these will be on his “top ten worst games of 2011″ place your bets… NOW!
Many people (including me) bitched about the bullsh*t lvl scaling. Fixed? I’m not so sure, and if not – I won’t even touch Skyrim. It’s not like I even have any high hopes, since it looks like crap, and seems to play like crap too, just like TES IV, no clue how it got to the 1st place :/
Oh god, Joe. I really don’t know where to begin with you, so I guess I’ll start with number 10…
And go ahead everyone, thumb-down me because I call Joe out. Don’t care.
10: X-com. You claim you can’t wait for this game because it’s based on one of your favourite games of all time, but at the same time you worry that it won’t have the same feel as X-COM. Yet the only media we’ve seen makes it look NOTHING like an X-COM game. You play an FBI agent, not a member of a military oganization. The aliens appear to be ‘black-tar’ types from X-Files. Spoony has even said that the whole game is a betrayal of the X-Com franchise… and you sort of agree with him, yet you’re anticipating playing it? Why? If it’s because you like the concept of a conspiracy-filled FPS, then say so. Don’t fall back on ‘it’s X-Com so I’m gonna like it.’
9: Michael Jackson. Again, you’re looking forward to this game but you keep on pointing out flaws. Why are you anticipating a game that you think might suck? Wouldn’t these spots be better filled with games that promise to be good?
8: RAGE. Firstly, ANY game reporter worth his salt knows it’s pronounced ‘id’ not ‘eye-dee’. This is why that guy at the SPIKE awards, didn’t take you seriously. DO YOUR RESEARCH.
7: LA Noire. Don’t know, don’t care, so I won’t say much. See how that works?
6: SotS II: Not a big fan of 3x/4x games. Note I’m not criticizing your choice here–they’re your opinions. You could just be better informed about the games you’re anticipating. Just… don’t do that dumb-ass evil laugh. Just don’t.
5: Deus Ex 3. Joe, it hasn’t been called Deus Ex 3 since the trailer you’re showing in this video came out. It’s been Deus Ex: Human Revolution for almost a year now. How could you not know this? RESEARCH. Hell, a simple wiki search will tell you that. Also, you can’t ‘roam free’ in it. There are branching paths, to be sure, and different ways to defeat obstacles, but it’s not a free-roaming game like the Elder Scrolls games are. Finally, Square-Enix isn’t making the game; they’re PUBLISHING it. Eidos is making it. Credit where credit is due, man.
4:Star Wars: TOR. I can’t say much about this because I really don’t care for extended universe stuff, but saying that RIFT is innovative is clearly wrong. RIFT has done nothing new. Rifts = public quests that Warhammer Online first did. I remember multiclassing in Guild Wars 1, which came out years before RIFT (though RIFT does it better). You can complete collections in Everquest. The only innovation RIFT did was to incorporate all those together.
3: Guild Wars 2. I’m looking forward to this as well, for all the reasons you mentioned. However, if you don’t know how they manage to make an MMO without sub fees you once again HAVEN’T DONE YOUR RESEARCH or even played GW1.
2: Mass Effect 3. I’m actually keeping myself from listening to any ME3 news because I don’t want to take any chances spoiling ME2.
1: Skyrim (or as you actually pronounced it–SKRIM.) When someone says that all the problems with the previous title have been fixed, I become skeptical. It sounds a lot like Molyneux hyping his newest FABLE game, only to have all that stuff taken away between his hype and actual release. I’ll believe it when I see it.
“…a date where people might find me missing for the following weeks.” God, I hope so.
Anticipation is all about hype, which is why he lists not only his hopes for the games but also his worries. It’s hard to know the quality of a game before release, which makes it kinda stupid to anticipate games based on their quality. So hype has to do.
Wow. A lot of knitpicking.
Isn’t that sort of what a review is supposed to do?
Oh, and it’s nitpicking.
And the irony of nitpicking on your spelling of nitpicking isn’t lost on me.
I’m surprised that Portal 2 didn’t make it to the list, I think that is my most anticipated title. I can’t wait for Deus Ex 3, I’m a huge fan of the first one. Also LA Noire is interesting as hell, but it’s shame that Rockstar kind of abandoned the PC, it all started with Red Dead Redemption
Is it just me, or does the box art from Sword of the Stars 2 box art look like a red version of Mass Effect?
1. Twisted Metal (15 years of awesomeness)
2. Dark Souls (Demon’s Souls mk. 2.0)
3. inFamous 2 (inFamous is most underrated “sandbox” game ever)
I look forward to the release of “Sturmwind” and “Gun Lord” for the Sega Dreamcast this year.
Dual-Wielding and more dynamic conversations……I think my mind just got blown by Skyrim…..ME3 could be good, I mean the only REAL issue I had with the game was Surveying planets and even than I was fine with that more or less, DA2 was a paradigm shift for the series, ME3 is more of the awesomeness that is ME2
I see you’ve put up a whole lot of RPG’s on the list. Which I really like. I am a huge RPG fan and because of that I was really happy with your number one choice.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, Only two words to sum up the hype for that: FUCK YEAH!
The only game I missed here is The Witcher 2. The first game really was incredible i.m.o. and just because the first game ended with a huge cliffhanger I’ve been longing for it for a long time.
Anyway, awesome list. Keep it up Joe!
No InFAMOUS 2? That’s the game I’m looking out for.
Throwing my hat in with those who are wary about ME3. After that developer left over dissatisfaction with DA2 and Bioware’s direction as a company, not to mention Bioware’s general response to the criticism, I think they might have changed. Plus, I think ME3 is going to suffer the same way DA2 did, from simply being rushed out the door too quickly.
Bioware is making too many high profile games at once. Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 3, AND The Old Republic? That’s too much for one developer, I don’t care if it’s Bioware. I’m hoping the game is good, but I’m still worried.
Otherwise, I’m pretty much with everyone else over being excited for Guild Wars 2 and Skyrim and Deus Ex, however there’s one game that doesn’t seem to be on anyone’s list that I’m thrilled over: Warhammer 40k: Space Marine.
Yeah, imagine that. The guy who runs around with Warlord Gorgutz ‘Ead ‘Unter as his icon, excited for a WH40k game? Not as excited as I was for DoW2: Retribution (which so far has my personal pick for best of 2011), but the ability to play a shooting game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe? Especially if that game is developed by THQ, a company that has turned out INCREDIBLY high quality games under the WH40k license? I’ll be getting it on release day, I promise you that.
Not a lot of games I really look forward to this year…
1. Mass Effect 3
2. Deus Ex 3 – Human Revolution
3.Portal 2
4. Diablo 3 (Which might not even come out this year…)
That is all the games I look forward to this year.
There’s a few more games that might peek my interest but nothing I’m really excited over
gonna share my list:
- Portal 2
- Witcher 2
- Dead Island
- Skyrim
- Tomb Raider (this realistic, new one, i dont know if it releases in 2011 though)
- RDR for PC (if rockstar will port it that is… yup, still not bought it for my 360 – i have this feeling i wont enjoy it without a mouse and keybord)
funny how different people anticipate different games
Dude were the hell is Arkham City.
Sure it may not be eveybody’s cup of thee but that game is going to Kick Ass.
No Duke? No Arkham City? Glaring, GLARING Omissions.
Though I agree about Mass Effect 3.
I gotta say, Im a little surprised that both Diablo 3 and Batman Arkham City wasnt on your list. I thought for sure atleast Batman wouldve been on your radar. Im also surprised that Deus Ex 3 was so low on your list. I thought given your thoughts on Alpha Protocol, this game this game wouldve definitely got you really excited.
Even though Ive been playing Guild Wars since it was in beta, I was slow to come around to Guild Wars 2. It wasnt until I saw how everything was really starting to fit together that I started to get excited for GW2. For me its more than just how awesome some of the game content is, but its also the way the Devs talk about the game. You really get that feeling that the Devs are building a game that they themselves would love to play. Its more than just a money making machine to them.
you forgot Last Guardian!
Any game around Skyrim’s release date should just quit
But hats off to Guild Wars 2, I don’t play MMOs but I may get it out of principle.
That giant purple dragon made me cry tears of joy, too … but then fucking Skyrim … i could hardly breathe! Goddamn that looks so great. Oblivion was one of my first 360 experiences, and it wowed me just as much as Shadows of the Collosus, in that you could go anywhere you can see.
But i got bored of the Oblivion Gates, wasting all the miniscule amounts of tiny health potions that people ever sell, for money it takes weeks to acquire, or making even weaker potions through alchemy… I certainly hope resources are distributed and are as combinable as in Two Worlds 2 – a game i feel has taken Oblivion’s place in what i’m asking for in a game. Shall Skyrim re-take it? Most likely, it seems.
I’m most anticipated for Guild Wars 2, can say without a doubt that it can revolutionize MMOs if it delivers on its promises, also think Deus Ex 3 looks cool (didn’t like the first one or Invisible War that much) and Skyrim also sounds cool (Oblivion is my 3rd favorite RPG right now, but never really liked Fallout 3 and NV). Mass Effect 3 doesn’t need much say, loved the 2nd game and enjoyed DA2 despite some of its shortcomings.
Give us new Freelancer game already come on ppl does someone agree with me??
Are you serious, Joe? I mean, I have wanted new quests for Oblivion as much as the next guy, and is Mass Effect 3 even coming out this year?
You’re missing what will probably be the best of the generation! The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword!
Okay, so maybe I have bias. Maybe you people think Zelda has some problems (which it doesn’t). You could have at least thrown it at #10 to appeal to us fan who feel The Legend of Zelda is the unchanging word of God (which it is).
SKYWARD SWORD TWENTY-’LEV
I lost faith in Nintendo’s flagship titles after Galaxy 1 and Twilight Princess (not to mention SSBB). I really can’t understand the people giving them 10 stars. My bet is all the reviewers simply did it because they were Mario and Zelda. Only flagship Nintendo title I still have faith in is Pokemon.
Zelda has no problems? Tell me you are just trolling.
Zelda’s my favorite game franchise of all time. It DOES have problems, whether you like it or not.
Plus, Joe has REPEATEDLY STATED he only owns a 360 and a PC.
Is it just me, or does the Deus Ex guy kinda look like Ed Glaser?
Looks like a cross between Ed Glaser and Auron.
When you got to starwars the old republic it cut to an ad and then it just ended.
Ever since blip started with ads the videos have started to hang up in middle and you need to reload the video. It is getting tiresome and I suspect its a trick from blip to get us to see the ads multiple times.
No Portal II.
NO PORTAL II?????
HERETIC!
I don’t know about Bioware anymore, Joe. After playing Dragon Age 2, I’m starting to think they’re spreading themselves too thin. DA2 wasn’t crafted, it was crapped out. You could see this in the repetative mission areas. Seriously, how many times do we have to go through the same cave? The scaling of the game was way off too. The same areas are waaaaaay more difficult at level 20 then they are at level 5, even when equipped as best as you can be. The game was chock full of glitches – some of them that were even in the first Dragon Age. Now they’re putting out Mass Effect 3 with a similar length of development cycle? My sense of foreboding is increasing rapidly. I’ll buy it, and I’ll probably enjoy it, but it seems evey Bioware game I play has them falling a little further away from the utter joy I experienced in the original Knights of the Old Republic.
Also: Skyrim as number 1…YES, except for maybe Duke Nukem, but I’ll admit, half of that is my fanboy hard at work.
Out of all the games you listed, the one I’m looking forward to the most is Guild Wars 2. And I say that as someone who has never, EVER, found anything worth while within the MMO or multiplayer genres. If I ever get enough money to upgrade the graphics card on my PC to something that doesn’t work like it was made in the stone age, this will be the first game I go out and buy in celebration. It just looks THAT good.
Of course Mass Effect 3 is a close second, but that is a given no matter how you look at it.
With that said however, I have nothing but apathy towards Skyrim in spite of enjoying both previous games in the series – though Oblivion left a horrid taste in my mouth in Morrowind’s wake. Maybe it’s because I was on the Bethesda forums in the year before Oblivion game out and saw the fallout from the amount of changes that were made and how few promises from the leading interviews were kept.
Seriously, anyone else remember that one in-game footage trailer months before the game was released showing off how innovated the Radiant AI was – you know, the one where the bookstore lady sets her dog on fire? Remember how hardly ANYTHING they mentioned was shown in the final product? I’ve seen the reasons for why this was done, and I certainly understand why the Radiant AI had to be neutered given all the problems it caused in the game, but I hate being made excited about a feature that will ultimately never see it’s full potential realized in the final product.
All in all, all of my experiences from that time have just left me with a wealth of apathy that I’m finding harder and harder to ignore as the days go by. Don’t get me wrong, I will still buy the game when it comes out, as Morrowind has forever doomed me to licking Bethesda’s boot heels in hopes that one day they will surpass their greatest master work. However the problems with Oblivion have left me too apathetic about the series to consider it my personally most anticipated title for the coming year. I hope that the game will shatter my expectations and beat me to within an inch of my life for ever doubting it’s potential, but until that day it’ll be off my radar.
I’m starting to get pretty stoked for Rage. Right away, I really love a post-apocalyptic setting, but I’m hoping the engine and that they’ve been working on it for so long will make it an amazing game. Borderlands was interesting, but a game you can’t play without friends. I loved Fallout, but there are times when the open world really drags you down along with having just a craptacular engine.
L.A. Noire could be good, but I’m iffy. GTA4 sucked, but RDR was pretty solid. The animation in the game might pull me in alone, but if it has good gameplay and driving mechanics on top of a great story, it could keep me there to the end.
yeah I agree Joe Skyrim is going to be the game to get Oblivion was the 1st game I put over 100 hours into… on two character races.
What about diablo 3? :’(
Reason for that is because Diablo3 doesent got a release date yet, and according to activision it will be 2012 for 2 Blizzard releases, but im pretty sure Blizzard will give us a Diablo 3 release date or something atleast at BlizzCon 2011
Joe is as naive as ever i see. They promise a lot of cool stuf for Skyrim but don’t forget that they did that for Oblivion as well. I distinctly remember all their BS about radiant AI and how NPCs would ahve daily routines and blah blah blah. It’ll still be a good game, i’ve no doubt about that, but don’t buy in to this ridiculous hype. You’ll only end up disappointed.
i love the Bethesda RPGs because they give me soo much freedom of exploring the world, customize my charecter and various Quests!… but that all comes with a big downside!
these games are very bugy and sometimes the look unfinished in some ways!
sure to create a massive game like Oblivion or Fallout is a great effort and its not easy but sometimes is a little bit less, more!
i have heard the PC versions of this games are not so Bugy but the consol versions OH MY GOD! First i bought Fallout 3 for 360> freezes and bugs , than i bought the PS3 version of Fallout 3 GOTY edition and it was a fucking mess!a few consol freezes in the main game and freezes every 20-30 min in the add-ons!
I mean WTF? it was unplayable! i tried it and tried it to play because i know there was a awesome Game under this! but at least i gave up..
For a couple of months ago i saw Fallout New Vegas reviews and i thought hmm.. should i try it? should i give Bethesda games a new chance?.. But i not bought it because a friend from me has played it on ps3 and i was waitting for a verdict from him… few days later we are chilling in the round with some friends and we asked him about NV and ohh shit hes was he angry!
Again freezes every 15-20min on ps3!.. i mean come on guys? are there no quality tests? how they can release a game in this way on the platform?
Result of this Story: i never buy a RPG from Bethesda on consols more! And i am skeptical about Skyrim..
First i read reviews soo i know how bugy it is and than i buy it for PC.(maybe)
( i am sorry about spelling mistakes! i only speak german and its the first time write such a long text in english.. i understand all but writing it with no fails or few fails i can not, sorry;)
Totally agree with your No. 1 there. Never played the other Elder Scrolls games, but that one looks like they really did a good job from the trailers.
I bet Old Republic will be the EA’s Alexander
It would be great to see the techniques LA Noire has used become common. There have been simpler versions of it for a while, like in Silent Hill 2 and 3 where they mocapped the voice actors as they acted out the cutscenes. Of course the one Rockstar is using is much more complicated as I assume the mocap and the facial capture are two separate processes that then need to be combined.
Still a bit uncanny valley though =P
And you’d be surprised, the COD crowd did get into Red Dead for the most part. Rockstar is a brand known for giving you a huge city to wreck havoc in, hopefully that will draw people in and the depth of content will make them stay and expand their horizons a bit.
I’ve never heard of Sword of the Stars, and its only in the last couple of years that I’ve really become a bit of PC gamer, but you’ve definitely piqued my interest there.
Lol I knew #1 would be Skyrim. End of this year is going to be busy for me, I can’t decide if I’m more excited about Skyrim or Mass Effect 3, I love them both so much!
guild wars 2 sorta interest me but having a game thats ALWAYS EXCITING might just kill itself the closer you get to the end.
honestly i would rather see whats done with the 3DS and NGP for games more then any console right now.
Without any doubt Guild Wars 2 is at top of my list. Perfect MMO without monthy fees? Sign me up.
I was surprised battlefield 3 didn’t make it on your list Joe! Maybe it’s at the thirteenth spot but oh well!
Old Republic is a WoW reskin but RIFT is innovative? Really…
Now my own list. Sadly, some may not be definite for this year. Also, in no particular order.
The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword: Zelda is a franchise that had me captivated for as long as I could remember. My friend had the original on NES, but we were banned from playing it (apparently, it was too “violent” for us), and it made me think of it as a forbidden fruit. The time I spent on Ocarina of Time was immensely fun. Majora’s Mask, though many hated it, opened my eyes to how dark, how complex, how character driven, and how emotional Zelda could really be, and I ate that up. Wind Waker showed me to never judge a book by it’s cover, and Twilight Princess showed me that darkness that Majora’s Mask showed, amplified it, improved the items, dungeons and graphics to a T, and made it the most exciting, most grandeur and most majestic and epic Zelda I’ve ever seen. While the art style of Skyward Sword looks a little weird, I hope that once again, Zelda can prove to me that despite it’s cover, it can blow me away once again.
The Last Guardian: Very little is known about this, and I am a bit skeptical on it, but I love games that are atmospheric, and the time I spent with Shadow of the Colossus really moved me. I only hope that there is some kind of conflict, and that there is some way to fight, but Team Ico hasn’t failed us yet.
Duke Nukem Forever: It’s misogynistic. It’s crude. It’s offensive. It’s cheesy. It’s everything I ever thought Duke Nukem was and more. I did not grow up with Duke in my lifetime, but this game, after it’s vaporware development time, is making me want to see just how awesome this series can be. All the naysayers and moral guardians be damned. Games rarely get like this, get to have some cheesy, tongue-in-cheek fun. It may be so outright offensive that it becomes cartoonish. And no matter how old I am, I love cartoons.
Silent Hill: Downpour: The fanbase seems to be heavily divided over this franchise, and seems to, instead of look forward to a new game, treat it with disdain, as only the first two/three were any good. Yet, I disagree. Shattered Memories is, without a doubt, my favorite horror of all time. Everything it promised, it delivered. It was exactly what I was looking for. While Downpour looks to go back to basics, and while the lack of Akira Yamaoka is depressing, I still hope to give this a chance, because it just might work.
Shadows of the Damned: Shinji Mikami, Suda 51, and Akira Yamaoka, all working on a game that looks like a cross between Evil Dead, Resident Evil, No More Heroes, and a hint of Ghost Rider? Oh HELL YES (pun intended)! This game looks like so much freaking fun, that I’ll be playing it for weeks, and perhaps even quote it for even longer (NMH quotes often pop up in my daily conversation, so hopefully, this will too).
Tales of Graces f: This game had BETTER do well. The Tales franchise is my all time favorite RPG series ever. It has quite a few cliches, but they are executed remarkably well, and in fact, has made it a tradition to turn the concepts of these cliches on their head and deconstruct them. Unfortunately, it hasn’t been doing so hot in the West. So my only hope is that not only will it sell well (at least in it’s niche), but that it also amazes and entertains me as well as Symphonia and Abyss have. If this takes off, then soon, Vesperia PS3, Rebirth, Hearts and Xillia may also get their chance to shine internationally. Of course, the game on it’s own merits is bound to be incredible either way.
Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney: There will be riots if this is not localized. Believe me. I know some people that will. I am currently on a mission to beat all the Professor Layton games (as I am coming from the Ace Attorney side myself) to prepare for this game. It may be one of the greatest crossover ideas in history. This game simply needs to be known by all.
Anarchy Reigns: MadWorld was one of the best games of 2009, and it really did stand out as being something pretty darn unique. The Running Man meets Sin City meets Battle Royale meets No More Heroes amounts of blood? That may sound contradictory to my earlier statement, but the gameplay is where it really counted. It was fast, it was exciting, it was bloody, and most of all, experimental. Hearing that a spiritual successor/sequel was happening just brightened my day, and from what I’ve seen so far, Platinum Games does not seem like they will disappoint; seriously, I don’t think they’ve made a bad game yet.
My Top 5 anticipated:
5. Guild Wars 2/Skyrim: I love the first Guild Wars and the new one looks awesome and I’m also looking into the next Elders Scrolls just like how you’re looking into the next Deus Ex, Joe.
4. L.A. Noire: I love games that stray from the norm and this game is no exception. The technology going into this game looks great and I’m just really excited to play.
3. Mass Effect 3: What’s there to say?
2. Batman: Arkham City: Arkham Asylum was spectacular but the only problem was that I wanted more…ALOT MORE. The new trailers only want me to play the game the more I see it, but while I’m pissing my pants to play this game I’m afraid of getting the same value that I got in Asylum.
1. UNCHARTED FREAKING 3: How can I not put the sequel to my all-time second favorite game as No. 1. The question here is…will it be better or worse than 2. I say who cares? UNCHARTED 3 ASDFDSHFHDSAHFDSJFSBFJKLDSFA
Whats your number 1 most favorite game of all time then? =D
Arkham City, Portal 2, and Mortal Kombat seem to be missing from your list my man. You could probably just get rid of those first three games that you kind of complained about and replace it with these.
10: Shadows of the Damned; Shinji Mikami AND Suda 51?! HELL YEAH!
9:Serious Sam 3: Need I say More?
8: Arkham City: BATMAN!
7: Asuras Wrath: Please come out this year
6: The Last Guardian: Oh god I LOVE team ico
5: Uncharted 3: It’s Uncharted
4:Skyrim: FUS ROH DAH!
3:Mortal Kombat: MORTAL KOMBAT DUNDUNDUNDUN!
2: Duke Nukem Forever: Oh yes please Dook
1: Earth Defense Force Insect Armageddon: I goddamn love the whole EDF series in general
My list (in no particular order)
1. Portal 2 (PC). This can’t happen fast enough. It is the essence of Do Want.
2. Skyrim (PC). Holy hell I want this game. Bad. Like, “use my vacation days from work when it comes out”.
3. Mass Effect 3 (PC). One of my favorite series of the last decade. Didn’t like the combat in ME2 as much as the first game (I prefer the cool-down and hate context-sensitive buttons) but everything else (inventory system especially) was much better.
4. Arkham City (PC). Loved the first one, love Batman, it’s a no-brainer.
5. Uncharted 3 (PS3). Some of the best action/exploring around, with great stories and likeable characters.
6. Ratchet and Clank: All 4 One (PS3). Another favorite series of mine. 4 player online co-op should make this fun as hell.
7. Bangai-O HD (XBLA). The Dreamcast game remains one of the most fun, insane, over the top experiences I’ve ever had. Literally thousands of enemies/bullets/missiles onscreen at once, and this time it’ll have co-op. Oh yeah, this is definitely getting downloaded once it hits the store…
8. Sly 4 (if it comes out this year) (PS3). I’ve been wanting a new Sly game for PS3 since the system came out.
9. Starfox (3DS) Pretty much the main reason I want a 3DS. I’ll be leaving the 3D effect turned off, though, I tried it at Best Buy today and it almost immediately started causing me eye strain.
10. Deus Ex 3 (PC). Looks amazing, I just hope it’s not “console-fied” like some other games I coule mention (coughBorderlandscough), but it still looks incredible.
I’d put Skyward Sword on my list but I doubt Nintendo is going to have a “classic controller” mode for those of us that detest motion-controls (Twilight Princess was better on Gamecube, just admit it).
By the way Joe, I know looking for Guild Wars 2 info can be difficult. But at Guild Wars 2 Guru, an elite forum (ArenaNet has fan/community driven forums) we can help you with any questions about Guild Wars 2. Our answers are tantamount to ArenaNet themselves, we are fanboys after all.
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/forum/
I really hope none of these games end up on your ‘Most Disappointing Games of 2011′ list next year.
I probably would have had Portal 2 somewhere on this list but with a release date so soon I can understand why it may have been left off.
It does drive me nuts that the majority of these games are being released at the end of this year. Spread the love and spare my pocket book a little bit developers! It is for this reason I spend January and part of February just catching up on the games that came out that I didn’t have time to play.
Hey! Deus Ex 3 is release on my birthday! Now I know what my birthday present will be.
sorry joe. this list is weak. you’re more excited about a michael jackson dancing game than you are about uncharted 3, batman arkham city, mortal kombat, the last guardian AND zelda skyward sword, not to mention many of the other great console titles that are releasing this year. i agreed on mass effect 3, but many of the others left me confused.
Even though I am not a big fan of modern games in general, I must admit even I want to get my hands on Skyrim.
I am surprised that Mortal Kombat isnt on here, it looks like the fighting game joe has been waiting for, one that actually has the bells and whistles, not just the pure basics like KOF and MvC3. I never really think about what my most anticipated game of the year is (atleast until E3), but its probably Duke Nukem Forever (I can already feel the controversy warming up over at Fox news) at least for the pre-E3 season. As long as nothing big like the true AC3 or something out of the blue from nintendo, my post spring game is probably Skyrim or deus ex also.
Great list Joe. Arkham City is the only difference I would cite. I really loved the first game’s throw back to 2D puzzels and a nod to the Warriors game. Although it equally makes me nervous. I know you never played the original hence this didn’t get on your list but I just don’t want them changing the things that made this game enjoyable for me.
Also like others…. looking forward to Witcher 2.
Lest we forget Kayne and Lynch 3 – naked guy runs into a wall for… 4 HOURS!!!!
The 2 games that I’m looking to pick up on release date are Duke Nukem Forever, and Diablo 3. As far as I’m concerned Mass Effects 1 and 2 are good but could use ALOT of inivation, to me it was “Gears in Space” well, with a much much better story and a mediocre conversation sysem. I HATE Bethesda and the new XCOM better not suck or I will find and smack a bitch.
Great list Joe. Mass Effect 3 is my #1, Guild Wars 2 I’m struggling to resist buying a new gaming laptop for while trying to save money.
May I also add Saints Row 3 and Ace Combat: Assault Horizon. Saints Row 2 was a revelation, a gloriously ridiculous GTA that refused point blank to take itself seriously in any way. Can’t wait to see the shenanigans coming in the new sequel.
As for AC:AA, Ace Combat is still for my money the very best plane game series around for people who love to blow s**t up. The trailers look ridiculously good, cannot wait to clamber back into the cockpit of a Typhoon Eurofighter or an F-15 and get down to some serious business at 6,000 ft.
10- Not really a big fan of the guys developing it, but I hold that it will probably be adequite like Bioshock was adequite.
9- Don’t got no Kinect.
8- Fuck the hype this game has. There is no reason it should be getting as much press as it is, even with Carmack behind it. It looks so banal. Even what you said, it’s a bunch of mashing up of post apocolyptic settings. It’s yanking good features from other games and hiding the fact it’s got little of its own to show through promises of mega textures and AI which hasn’t seemed that impressive.
7- I’m semi interested in this game, but everyone wo is interested in it is so for all the wrong reasons. STOP ORGASMING OVER THIS TECHNOLOGY, IT’S UTTER SHIT. I’d go into more, but I’ve all ready blogged about this. Half-Life 2 did it better.
6- Hm? What is this? Looks interesting anough, though I’ve heard naught of it.
5- Deus Ex is one of the greatest games of all time, and I think I need to say only this for how excited I am for DX:HR. I dressed up as Adam Jensen for PAX and went before the developer and Art director saying “Hello, I’m Adam Jensen”. AND DONT COMPARE MASS EFFECT TO THIS. MASS EFFECT SHOVES MORALS DOWN YOUR THROAT.
4- I loved KotOR, I love MMOs, looking forward to it. Wary, but hyped. Side note: Rift’s making leaps? No. Nononononono.
3- We know so little about the game it’s hard to even take in the good things about it. Most of my MMO pals are wary as well.
2- Fuck ME. That is all.
1- I love the Elder Scrolls series, so power to Skyrim.
Why isn’t the Witcher on here though? It’s like a mix of Skyrim and Deus Ex with its own chilling fantasy blend. By the way, those three games are my top picks.
Awesome list Joe!
Back at the Guild Wars 2 Guru Forums, we completely agree, plus, awesome list. Skyrim #1, oh yeah, you know games.
Although, be warned, you made a quite a bit of enemies in the Star Wars: The Old Republic forum, placing the game at #4 isn’t cutting much.
But I don’t think you should be worried, some of your enemies are like this:
“I’m not worried after seeing his top 4. First of all I hate all Elder scrolls games. Why? Because it’s a single player game! Where are all the other players?!? That also applies to ME3 although not as much as the story is usually good enough to keep me going. As far as GW2, first it’s another fantasy MMO (yawn!), second the heroic feel from the start is TERRIBLE!. Why would you want to feel heroic at lvl 1? You haven’t earned that yet!”
And others are more reasonable of course. The Guild Wars 2 Guru Forums gots ya back Joe!
umm those aren’t the reasons TOR fans think GW2 is “bad.” In fact, I’m a huge TOR fan and I don’t think GW2 is bad by any means, I just thing SWTOR is a lot better. For one, yes it is a fantasy MMO. 2) Crafting in TOR is amazing with Crew Skills (far more innovative than GW2 or any MMO crafting) 3) better story (you have to admit, TOR will be 1000x superior than GW2 when it comes to story, and anyone who thinks otherwise has problems) 4) Personal starships that actually are useful and let you travel to galaxy, engage in story points, invite your friends over, engage in space combat, and operate crew skills, as opposed to just story in GW2. Again, I still think GW2 is a good game, but not my kind of game.
My most anticipated, in no particular order. Keep in mind, I’m mostly an RPG gamer who also loves hybrids (Deus Ex, System Shock, BioShock, etc.)
*The Witcher 2 – Assassin’s of Kings:
Really disappointed in not having the console remake of the original, as I would have prefered a more hack-and-slash type of combat system. But, as other people have said, this seemingly PC-exclusive is at least promising to be on-par with anything BioWare does, if not better. It’s like if you took BioWare and Chris Avellone’s writing and puree’ it with the choice and consequences, freedom, and grey morality of the Fallout series. Doesn’t hurt that it has a solid foundation for its universe in that it’s based on a series of novels/short stories and the developers already got it right once before.
*BioShock Infinite:
I was a fan of the System Shock games way back when, so, of course, seeing the legacy continue on is promising to me. While BioShock 2 was lackluster compared to the first, that was because of having different developers and reusing content from the original game wholesale with little variation. This is a new BioShock, in a new setting, with new ideas, all by the original developers who brought us System Shock 2, SWAT 4, and BioShock. They don’t disappoint. Why would they now?
*Persona 2 – Innocent Sin PSP:
I know it’s not a new game, but Sony screwed us out of this game before, so this has been a long time coming. If you played a Persona game, you’d see why people would be hyped for this. This was where the series changed from being ‘good’ (like it was when the first Persona was originally released) to being great. This is arguably the best title in the series in story and characters possibly rivaling Persona 4, which is my personal favorite entry to date.
*Deus Ex – Human Revolution:
Again, I love genre-blending hybrid games. Deus Ex and System Shock 2 were kings of this long before titles like Mass Effect, BioShock, and the last two Fallout entries made it popular by allowing more console-gamer exposure. Deus Ex 2, to put it very lightly, was a letdown, with little of the role-playing elements left intact. Alpha Protocol would have almost been a good spiritual successor to Deus Ex, if only Sega hadn’t made Obsidian rework half the game in the last months of development with little time for QA (Yes, it was Sega, not Obsidian at fault). When I initially heard about Deus Ex 3, I was really skeptical, but now I feel like it’s at least assured to be better than Invisible War, if not up to par with the original.
*Catherine:
Atlus are at their best when they do weird things. The Persona games are weird. The Trauma Center/Team games are weird. The development team behind those two series working on a cross between a Japanese visual novel game, a survival horror adventure game, and Q*bert, is weird. That’s what Catherine is. Atlus are amazing at their production values, their music, and their character writing, and this game seems squarely focused on at least three interesting characters and their relationships between each other. The last two Persona games could invest you in the personal stories of characters extremely well at a quick pace, whether or not they even had anything at all to do with the meat of the game. Now, these kinds of encounters are the main focus, and I can’t see Atlus suddenly losing their footing in familiar territory.
*The Elder Scrolls V – Skyrim:
I was sold at the mention of the Radiant Story system. With Oblivion, Radiant A.I. was so amazing that other sandbox games had to pay attention if they wanted to make what seemed to be a living, breathing world. Red Dead Redemption followed up on similar ideas in a great way with NPCs that were constantly doing things and randomly-generated encounters that occurred out in the desert. Radiant Story, as a system, is kind of similar, but with a kind of focus on the player character and what they have done. Quests can be generated to send you to locations you have not yet located, with enemies, objectives, and treasures relevant to your character’s interests through a check on your skills and statistics, in some ways, it’ll be tailor-made to your strengths and weaknesses, and it encourages running around and exploring, taking in the beautiful environments of the game. If there’s anything Bethesda has proved with recent games like Fallout 3, it that they are learning to tell stories with the environments alone, like with Springvale School at the beginning of Fallout 3, which was riddled with cages, corpses, and child-sized skeletons. I don’t remember there being an explanation, but it let your mind connect the dots as you explored, creating a creepy and memorable location. Here’s hoping there’s some of that with Skyrim.
*Guild Wars 2:
I feel like EVERYONE should get around to buying this when it comes out, if only to send a message to more money-hungry companies that subscription fees aren’t gonna fly anymore. The economy is hurting and isn’t getting much better, so it only makes sense that a company that does more for less deserves more attention. That’s not to say GW2 doesn’t looks amazing by it’s own right. I hate MMO’s and I am excited for this, and even with the scarce bit of the original Guild Wars I played, I never regretted buying it. GW 2 is more of a game for Singleplayer RPG gamers than The Old Republic is, in my opinion, because even with ‘Class-Specific stories’, ‘personalized companions’, and a ‘fully-voiced experience’, I have a feeling that the game is still going to be the typical MMO grind, which is the worst part of the genre. ‘No, Mister Yoda-Lookalike, I DON’T want to kill 10 wamprats from 15 parsecs away. I want to feel like I’m actually important, thanks.’
———-
As for Mass Effect 3, I honestly don’t really care. The first Mass Effect was my favorite. The story was short, but the sidequests planet-side made the universe feel massive. I didn’t have the issues a lot of people had with the Mako for the most part, I loved the inventory system, and I liked most of the original cast (bar Kaidan and Ashley, screw them) incrementally more than most of the characters in ME 2. All of the best aspects of Mass Effect were outright eliminated in 2, rather than improved on or expanded, and the sidequests were all culled as well. I’ll pick up Mass Effect 3 to finish the story, but probably later after they have an ‘Ultimate Edition’ with all the DLC on the cheap.
What? No Battlefield 3? Joe wtf?
How can you tell when somebody doesn’t own a Wii? When Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword isn’t on their Top 10 Anticipated Games of 2011. XD
That game will ALWAYS be my Number 1 until it comes out, but HOLY CRAP, There’s some seriously EPIC games coming out this year!
Guild Wars 2? WANT IT! Deus Ex 3? WANT IT! Mass Effect 3? NEED IT!!!! Elder Scrolls 5? REALLY NEED IT!!!
You’re lucky I love Legend of Zelda, Nintendo, or you wouldn’t see ANY of my money this year!
P.S. Really? I would have expected Batman: Arkham City to be on here. >_>
Hmm, I don’t even have 10 games on my list
1) Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
2) Mass Effect 3
3) W40k: Space Marine
4) Batman: Arkham City
5) Infamous 2
6) L.A. Noire
7) Portal 2
8 ) The Witcher 2
Makes me wish I had actual time to try all those games.
I’m not a hardcore gamer, and really the only two I’m thoroughly excited about are Skyrim and Arkham City. I absolutely love their predecessor games, and feel that these look like solid entries into their franchises.
But unfortunately, I probably won’t be able to play either on release. My compy isn’t nearly powerful enough to play Skyrim, and once I get around to updating it, I won’t be able to afford any games for some time afterward. I will probably get Arkham for XBox, but even then, I will probably have to wait, since replacing that compy is kinda high on the pri list right now.
My most anticipated game of 2011 is, no question, Guild Wars 2. When I first heard about it from Spoony’s coverage of PAX 2010 I was hooked on this game. It was like they took everything I hated about MMOs and not only improved them, but made them fun. It’s basically my perfect ideal MMO and there’s no monthly fee. That is a dream come true, I’d gladly pay $15/month for this amazing game but the fact I don’t have to invest anything beyond the initial purchase just makes it even better. I’ve never been so obsessed over a game before it was even released.
My other most anticipated game is Portal 2, I was a bit weary of this game because I thought it was basically going to be a longer version of Portal, but it looks like a really fun game with new puzzles, new tools to solve said puzzles, more hilarious dialogue, and of course the 2 player co-op mode. There’s also Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Shogun 2, I know they’re out already but I haven’t gotten to play them yet.
There wasn’t anything else I was anticipating but you got my intrigued about Deus Ex 3 and Skyrim. I’m defiantly going to look into those.
Huh, did you say the new MMO RIFT innovates?
While it’s a pretty solid MMO, it’s absolutely nothing new in the MMO genre.
Pretty sure Guild Wars 2 won’t have any sub fees, because like the first game, it won’t have any free content updates like most other MMOs, just paid expansions.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/War_in_Kryta
To me, it’s not important whether a game is 100% innovative – in fact, no game out there is 100% innovative, but draws influence from lots of other sources.
But what’s important is how it combines/adapts those elements to give a good gaming experience. Innovation is good, but only in so far as it contributes to a fresh or improved gaming experience. (In fact, a game could be totally innovative, but still suck if it doesn’t deliver on a good experience).
The subscription fee thing is the very reason I have stayed away from MMO’s. I just don’t like the idea of constantly paying for the same game I’ve already paid for once before. And paying for expansions, to me, isn’t that bad of an alternative: it lets me pay for the content I want, instead of requiring me to pay for content I may not want.
I’m getting old and warty so i don’t have as much enthusiasm as i used too.
However i am really looking forward to,and will actually purchase:
Deus Ex 3-Huge rabid fan of the original ION Storm/Warren Spector original game,i pretend DEX:Invisible Wars never existed for the sake of my sanity.
Duke Nukem Forever:Has the potential to be either great or a miserable failure.13 years in the making..sheesh..
Dark Souls:Loved Demons Souls and Kings Field series before it..sure to be hard as nails but at least you will get your moneys worth.
I’m sure there are other games i will buy but not with fevered anticipation.
Angry Joe, I’ve always respected you as a gamer and a reporter, but I honestly feel you have no idea what you’re talking about when it comes to MMOs. More particularly, Star Wars: The Old Republic and Guild Wars 2.
First off, Star Wars: The Old Republic is more innovative than GW2, TERA, and Rift. Those games just add game systems such as dynamic events in GW2, or rifts in… well, Rift. SWTOR is changing the whole FOUNDATION of the game by adding a PILLAR to the genre which is story. The whole game is built around that. Adding a pillar to MMOs is far more innovative than adding a game system because any game can add game systems.
Secondly, SWTOR does still have innovative game systems anyway. It has Multiplayer Dialogue, Fully Voiced Game, Companion characters WITH their own side missions and combat, crew skills (which is the most innovative crafting compared to those other games), Scaling combat animations (so level 50 lightning strike will look far more powerful than level 10 lightning strike), Personal Starships (that act as housing and are actually useful unlike other MMOs), and TONS of little tweaks and additions that no one would notice, but put the game well beyond other MMOs.
Lastly, if you’re complaining about the graphics, TOR’s graphics are far superior in terms of lasting potential and from a business standpoint . The SWTOR graphics, first of all, will run on a HUGE variety of PC rigs, will NOT age as the years go on, and most importantly, look DIFFERENT from any other MMO ever. This is one thing that WoW did right that no other game did. If you take screenshots of Rift, Tera, and GW2 and put them next to each other, they look VERY similar. Why? They all look like boring, stereotypical fantasy MMO. None of them stand out in terms of graphics.
Also, I’m wondering if you really know much about the game. In the video, you talked about how TOR will have boring auto attack combat like WoW. Now I’m not one to call someone out, but if you knew a decent amount about the game, you would know that there is NO auto attack in TOR which the developers have been saying for over a year now.
The combat is much more dynamic, much more action-y, and far superior than WoW. I’m not talking GW2 “dynamic” which is just “oh you can dodge a projectile.” That’s stupid only because that is an action MMO dynamic in a non-action style genre. Unless you’re a game like DCUO that is called an action MMO, you don’t want to have that kind of stuff in your combat because a lot of people play MMOs as opposed to CoD because they’re not good at twitch-based dynamics. TOR actually is dynamic in terms of RPGs where you have to use abilities wisely and in harmony with other abilities and players. It’s not worth explaining now.
Sorry to say, but you lost all credibility when you claimed TOR had auto attack. I respect your opinion on what you think about the game, nonetheless, despite my opposing views. Also, I didn’t mean to sound mean or nerd-ragey in this post, and if I did, I apologize.
You DEFINETLY put KoToR Online too high on the list (or it shouldn’t even be on it).

Let me tell you something,
DEUS EX 3 is gonna change CINEMATIC STORYtelling in v. g. FOREVER !
Years from now when some new game comes out, and dev says” we’ve got engaging cinematic storytelling” ppl are gonna go; ” Oh yea !? Is it as good as DESUS EX 3 ?”
I was simply BLOWN AWAY , how is it possible that they made it so FULL OF LIFE yet fantastic and imaginative in it’s own way.
—
props to Guild Wars 2, I consider it the best choice among MMOs, i don’t know HOW they pulled it of without a sub fee.
—
BF 3 is gonna be the best competitive FPS.
—-
Uncharted 3 , best 3rd PS
—-
I am also looking forward to Batman : A C, I LOVED the first one.
—-
SKYRYM the best open RPG alongside RAGE (it’s gonna blow ppl away)
—–
METAL (freakin’) GEAR RISING (no more Snake =(( ) but it’s gonna bring some radical change, and we get to explore MOAR story!”"!!” yay
/////////////////////////
———————-
But ABOVE ALL, I have longed for====– THE LAST GUARDIAN–==== and I know it’s gonna be an emotional thrill ride, and a breath of fresh air among all the over the top gore we see, at last A TRULY BEAUTIFUL ADVENTURE in a big world, i want to release the kid in me, he’s been waiting for too long.
These are in no particular order except for the top 6 (This includes games that have already come out)
10. Homefront
9. Mortal Kombat
8. Duke Nukem Forever
7. Twisted Metal
6. Call of Duty 8 (Modern Warfare 3)
5. Gears of War 3
4. Killzone 3
3. Resistance 3
2. inFamous 2
1. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
Not exactly a “top 10″ since i never seem to hit that number. and of course this is in no particular order.
Portal 2 (that reminds me i still sorta..have to uh…PLAY the first one. >.>)
battlefield 3 (as much fun as i had with BC2, i always wanted something more. hopefully this will be it)
Skyrim. If nothing else, bethesda can really make your hair stand on end. That trailer, when i first say it had me screaming in excitement. Watching it again I cant stop smiling honestly. As many problems as Oblivion had, it was still a great game for every console and a complete joy to play simple on just how massive the game was. That being said Bethesda has alot on there plate just with that game. Thanks to fallout 3 and new vegas as benchmarks for bethesda’s game making prowess, they better really dish out the goodness, otherwise tons of nerds might lose there tempers.
I cant be interested in mass effect. as much as i respect bioware as a company, i never end up finishing there games. No idea why.
Bioshock infinite: whether its coming out this year or not, since i finally beat bioshock 1 and on the way with 2, my respect for this series has exponentially risen. And infinite will probably just be icing on the cake.
Forza 4 and dirt 3. and maybe shift 2…
I’m a racing gamer, and gran turismo 5 was a huge let down for me. I gave it an “okay” kind of bit. Considering b4 i had been playing forza 3, with its storefront, auction house, and multiple multiplayer components. and forza really seemed much more fun then GT could ever do. the dirt series has really shown why you have to have a separate game for rally racing, and dirt 3 looks to have a ton of good ideas thrown into it and realistic physics by the dozen. And shift 2 is just there for fun.
Guild wars 2? not a pay to play? eh. Thats a bad idea. theres a reason XBL and blizzard ask for a subscription to there game. Because they support it.
My Top 10:
10. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – I really didn’t enjoy Morrowind, and I haven’t even tried Oblivion because of that. Skyrim has me interested with the setting. I don’t care about the dragon slaying, but the environments and architecture look VERY sweet. Also, it promises to have a great soundtrack by my favourite composer.
9. Heroes of Might & Magic VI – I’m a big fan of part 3 and 5 of the series. This doesn’t look too promising though, hence it’s low on the list.
8. Space Marine – I love W40K. Not sure if this is coming out at all though, things have been awfully quiet.
7. King Arthur 2 – followed a suggestion from Joe and loved the first part, but I haven’t played the DLCs yet. I’m hoping KA2 will be at least as good, though I would love it to be even better.
6. Portal 2 – not much to say about this, basically a follow up to the best shortest game I ever played.
5. American McGee’s Alice: Madness Returns – the original game is one of my favourite TPP action games of all time, I’m hoping McGee will deliver this time around as well.
4. Mechwarrior 5 – I became a fan of the series recently. I’m hoping this is coming out, since the “gameplay” trailer looked very promising.
3. Deus Ex: Human Revolution – I loved the first one, the second was ok, this one has the potential to be the best out of the three. Please don’t screw this up, Square Enix / Eidos… please
2. Batman: Arkham City – the follow up to my favourite gaming experience of recent years, I can’t not buy it as soon as it comes out.
1. The Witcher 2: Assasin of Kings – Joe, this one is for you, personally. You HAVE to check this game out. People are being very quiet on the net about this, but I believe it’s going to be awesome. In my opinion the first Witcher is at least as good (if not better, which is my personal bias) than the Bioware games, offering an exciting and rich setting paired with original ideas. CHECK THIS GAME OUT, PEOPLE!
“I really didn’t enjoy Morrowind, and I haven’t even tried Oblivion because of that.”
Okay, first, just let me say, you should play Oblivion. And I’ll explain why:
When Oblivion first came out, I had grown tired and even somewhat frustrated with Morrowind. To me, Morrowind was a brilliant idea, but it failed to hold my interest. Why? Because it was a combination of too much and not enough. What do I mean by that? Well, it was too much because it provided so many options and paths you can take. When I play RPG’s, I tend to like to do everything. Well, in a system like TES, you can’t realistically do everything. If you join one faction, another faction will hate you. Complete one string of quests, and you might find it impossible to start another. This in itself is not a bad thing – it makes the world more dynamic, and imposes consequences for your actions. But it can be intimidating for someone not used to a dynamic world like that presented in TES games. And when I played Morrowind, I wasn’t used to it.
But it was also too little. I played hours of Morrowind, and never even found the main quest. I joined guilds, performed side-quests, but somehow, I never got hooked into the main story. I missed it somehow. And without at least something there to pull me into the main story, I got bored with it and put it down. It was only after reading and hearing about the main story later that I began to regret not sticking it out and waiting for the main story to pull me in. In a very real sense, it was too open-world.
But Oblivion is different in a number of ways. First, you get pulled into the main story right from the opening tutorial. Almost immediately, you are confronted with the main quest. You can choose not to pursue it, if you’d rather not, but at least it’s there. You know from the start what the main conflict is, and it’s up to you to get involved in it.
At the same time, there are still all the guild quests. And just like with the main quest, you can choose to pursue them or not. But in almost every town you go, you will at least hear about them, and be somewhat encouraged to pursue them.
And if you get tired of playing “Vanilla”, you can download and install numerous expansions and mods that will enhance your gaming experience. Some will alter the way you play – for example, by altering the way you advance in levels and skills, or giving you new weapons and armor options – and some will add whole new quests, even new worlds to explore. There are even well-designed mods that will improve the graphics and stability of the game for you. And I’m not even speaking of the official expansions, like Knights of the Nine and The Shivering Isles. Many of these mods are free, and you can download them and use them at your leisure. For this, though, I’d highly recommend the PC version, since there’s nowhere near as much mod support for the console versions.
Oblivion is still open-world, but it strikes a good balance between the “I don’t have a clue what I’m supposed to do” aspect of Morrowind, and the “Man, I sure wish this game would let me do what I want to do” aspect of some of the Final Fantasy type games.
In summary, I do hope that, at some point, you will give Oblivion a chance. The Game of the Year edition is pretty inexpensive (I bought mine for like $20, and that was a few years ago).
Like you, I was turned off to TES because of my poor experience with Morrowind. But when I gave Oblivion a chance, it was well worth both the money and the time I put in playing it.
(And for those of you who criticize my critique of Morrowind – I’m only relating my experience of the game. I know there’s far more to it than what I got out of it. I’m just saying that, not knowing what I was doing with it, my interest in it waned pretty quickly. I didn’t hate Morrowind – I just didn’t enjoy it as much as I could have).
Wow, man, thanks a lot for spending time to sway my opinion of the series! That’s very nice of you. I have to admit, I was tempted to pick up Oblivion and with your recommendation, I might as well do it at some point instead of ignoring it altogether
Also, I had to lol at my original post receiving 4 Thumbs Down. I wonder if it’s the fact I spoke anything but high praise for Bioware RPG’s in it… no, it can’t be! That would be just downright silly!
Seriously, people, get rid of that functionality on this website, it just doesn’t work with this crowd.
Too bad if all those games get banned here…*Drowning in a pit of sorrow*
I’m really glad I saw this, there’s games that are coming out that I hadn’t heard or new very little about, and have got me pretty excited. Both Guild Wars 2 and Skyrim look fantastic, and I will totally be finding out more about them. Like Joe, Deus Ex 3 would be where I’d come in, and it won me over in that list. Speaking of Icarus, I’m really looking forward to the Kid Icarus: Uprising. I didn’t play Duke Nukem when I was a kid, but I know enough about it, as well as what I’ve seen so far, the new one could be okay. After 10 years though, it better be, or I’m sure a lot fans will be pissed. Probably want I most want is Moral Kombat 9…And of course, it’s banned here. So, fuck life. At least in 5 months I might have something to look forward to again…*sigh*
Oh yeah. I got my birthday present for this year (it comes out 5 days before my birthday)! Skyrim it shall be. I’m not even sad anymore my Oblivion disc broke.
The first trailer sucked, but now that i saw something of the actual game, I want it. I want it hard.
Also Guild Wars 2. I’m craving this game since I’ve heard of it for the first time. I feel like they are the first guys to take the entire genre and actually make something good out of it. Changing environments, combat that actually engages the player and meaningful interesting quests.
On top of that it has a whole set of entirely unique races. Not just your standard elves, orcs and dwarves, and these races are also not just a bunch of funny looking humans.
1. Guild Wars 2 – too much for just one sentence.
2. Battlefield 3 – 64 players battle in vehicle combat in destructible environment
3, Swtor – Star wars + Bioware
4. Brink – unique movement system
4. The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim – Elder scrolls
5. Saints row 3 – saints roll again
6. Sword of stars 2 – fleets of space ships fighting for the control
7. Batman: Arkham city – sequel to best license game ever
8. Duke Nukem: Forever – hail to the king
9. Portal 2 – another change to get cake
Oh wow, Joe. You seriously believe Bethesda are going to deliver on their promises? Radiant AI anyone?
My top anticipated for 2011 you say? VERY WELL, SAMURAI.
10. Section 8: Prejudice (FUH. REE.)
But goddamn it will be SO worth it.)
9. Diablo 3 (While I’m all about the dungeon crawling, I really think that all the bells and whistles they are adding to the game are going to retract from my experience.)
8. Shadows of the Damned
7. Batman: Arkham City (I still get immense satisfaction with stealth killing goons in Arkham Asylum.)
6. FireFall (Tribes? With upgradeable loadouts? And dynamic technology levels over massive networks? Yes please.)
5. Torchlight II (It’s like the original torchlight, but with multiplayer! Which is awesome!)
4. TERA (I have to admit, I am really happy that more and more MMOs are moving away from hotkey standarounds like WoW. Not that they aren’t all bad. *COUGHBUYRIFTCOUGH*)
3. Anarchy Reigns (Madworld is second only to Monster Hunter Tri on the Wii, because it oozes obscure style with gigaviolence. Yes, ultraviolence doesn’t do the game justice.)
2. Skyrim (Like I always say when I watch the newest trailer: “GODDAMN! Now THAT was a power word!”)
1. Hoping that Capcom localizes Monster Hunter Frontier for NA and EU (I am pretty sure that Sean, JewWario, Quatoria and I will disappear from the internet forever if that happens
Killing goons in Batman?
Oh man.. That’s more epic than I can handle.
10. ???
9. ???
8. River City Ransom 2 – just heard about this yesterday and couldn’t have had a better reaction. love the original. love the remake on the GBA. if this combines the best of both, this shall be nostalgic awesome incarnate.
7. Metal Gear Solid: Rising – I’ve been waiting for a MGS game that puts you in the shoes of the cyborg ninja since the original Grey Fox fight on the PSX. Can’t wait to see it finally come to pass.
6. Gears of War 3 – I’m less critical of this series than most and am earnestly anticipating the finale
5. Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition – need me an update for SSF4 with some yun/yang love
4. LA Noire – Rockstar has yet to let me down. I’m digging the mental detective aspect of this more than the action…and that’s why I despise all FPSs. this is hopefully going to be the anti-FPS.
3. Mortal Kombat – could not be more hyped for this…I’m so hoping it won’t be a huge letdown. from what I’ve seen, this will be nostalgic awesome incarnate – the second coming.
2. Batman: Arkham City – Arkham Asylum expanded to a full city + more bosses + more gadgets + Catwoman = EPIC.
1. Mass Effect 3 – no words are needed here. none.
Not much overlap between us I see – only Mass Effect 3. Still, here’s mine, even though I can’t get a full 10:
1) Tales of Graces F (If it’s released 2011 – hopefully should be since the localization was announced so early this year. If it’s just the PS3 version, it’ll be the game that sells me a PS3.)
2) Mass Effect 3
3) The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
4) Batman: Arkham City
5) Kid Icarus: Uprising
There are a few games that would be on here but are already out, like Marvel vs Capcom 3, Dragon Age 2, and Radiant Historia. And there are others that I’ll likely try but am not sure I’ll buy yet, like Portal 2 and Catherine. And I’m still hoping to hear about The Last Story and/or Xenoblade getting localized in the US, but can’t include them when they’re still Japan-only so far.
Shit, forgot to mention Anarchy Reigns. The spiritual successor to Madworld, you know Platinum Games is gonna go all out making this far more insane.
Well Joe, I’m with you on L.A. Noire (really psyched about a game that’s an homage to classic hard-boiled detective stories), but none of the others on your list really interested me. Here are the games I’m anticipating most.
- The Last Guardian: Team ICO’s yet to disappoint with their epic stories, and this upcoming release seems like it will be another winner. Plus, after playing Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom, I look forward to seeing another take on the young man and monster team-up tale.
- Portal 2: The previews have gotten me psyched over this one. It looks like Valve has gone all out in upping the humor, story, and game mechanics for this killer sequel.
- Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword: Big fan of the Zelda franchise, and I really want to see where this next installment takes the mythology.
- Trenched: It’s from Double Fine, need I say more?
- Shadows of the Damned: This one intrigues me mainly because of the development team; Shinji Mikami, mastermind behind the Resident Evil series, and Goichi Suda, who’s developed some of the most enjoyably, outlandishly bizarre games of the last decade. I really want to see what happens when their talents combine.
- Silent Hill: Downpour: Never been much of a fan of the Silent Hill franchise, but this one seems like it might draw me into its world. Just have to wait and see.
- Kid Icarus: Uprising: I missed out on the original Kid Icarus game for the Nintendo, but after learning of its fame and the revamps Nintendo has made for the 3DS installment, I’m looking forward to finally entering Pit’s world.
- Heroes on the Move: Return of Sly Cooper. ‘Nuff said.
- Paper Mario 3DS: The Paper Mario games are always incredible, and I want to see what Nintendo has in store for his adventure on their newest system.
- Codename D: More Suda 51 insanity, this might be what motivates me to get a Kinect.
L.A. Noire is definitely my most anticipated game of 2011. I just love Rockstar’s Games, and RDR blew me away. And it’s got fucking John Noble in it, I love this guy.
As for Skyrim, I have to admit I’m not too excited. Bethesda’s environments and games just seem always so lifeless and sterile – and boring.
Plus, they always seem to make many design choices I do not really like: Level-Scaling, First-Person, etc.
But let’s see how it will turn out. This is still only a trailer, so it’s hard to tell how the real gameplay will like.
As for Mass Effect 3, I have the second one here, and still couldn’t play it, because I couldn’t bring myself to finish Mass Effect 1. Why? Because of that §$!&#?% inventory system, that’s why. It’s terrible, and I really want to punch the guy that designed it.
I love your work Joe, but I have to say that I disagree with half the choices you have on your list.
The most glaring omission, in my opinion, was The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings. I personally think it’s going to be better than Mass Effect 3, Skyrim and Deus Ex: Human Revolution. Their new proprietary engine looks fantastic, the massive amount of content and nonlinearity will ensure plenty of replayability (especially with 16 obtainable endings), and the reworked combat system is looking really good. Add in the fact that the developers are showing their love for their fans by selling a completely DRM-free version on their parent site (GOG.com) with tons of additional content and the final product just screams quality. This will be my personal GotY 2011 (let alone RPG of the year). And hey at least you’ll now have a new beefy computer to play it on if you choose, Joe.
I do agree with including Mass Effect 3 (although after the big disappointment Dragon Age II was I am a little worried even though it’s being worked on by their A team), Skyrim, RAGE, Deus Ex: Human Revolution and LA Noire. Those look (or will most likely be) AAA quality titles.
When it comes to the ones I didn’t agree with I don’t know why the hell you included those dancing games on the list. I’m sure that’s more because I’m not a fan of the motion-based video game movement, but I still don’t see how they could be considered part of the best games of 2011. X-COM was another one I wouldn’t have included, but that’s because it looks like it could either be really good or really bad. Guild Wars 2 and Star Wars: The Old Republic, well, I’m not an MMO player so I don’t care about those types of games. And Sword of the Stars II…I can’t say I’ve even heard of it. LOL
I was also surprised to see you omit a few other big titles like Mortal Kombat, Batman: Arkham City and Duke Nukem Forever. Well I could see maybe not including DNF, but I was a huge fan of Duke back in the day so I’m really looking forward to the new one. I also think games like Infamous 2 and Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception would go on a list like this, but I know you don’t have a PS3 so I understand that.
Anyways it was definitely an entertaining video and I hope all the games you’re most looking forward to end up meeting or exceeding your expectations. On a final note this is what MY current best of 2011 list looks like:
1. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
2. Deus Ex: Human Revolution
3. Mass Effect 3
4. Batman: Arkham City
5. Mortal Kombat
6. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
7. Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
8. Duke Nukem Forever
9. Infamous 2
10. LA Noire
Joe, how about “Blade and Soul”?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODD790bO2VU
Okay here’s my Top 10:
1) Mass Effect 3 (duh)
2) Deus Ex 3
3) Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception
4) Catherine
5) Batman Arkham City
6) Tales of Graces f (assuming it comes out in 2011)
7) LA Noir
8 inFamous 2
9) Duke Nukem Forever
10) Demonbane
Honorable Mention: ef part 1 and 2
I don’t really have a long list but three games I’m looking forward to are Saints Row 3, Mortal Kombat, and X-Men: Destiny
My list is pretty similar Joe, Although I’d add DARK SOULS and ARKHAM CITY as well
My top 10 in random order:
*Duke Nukem Forever: It’s the Duke. From what I saw we get what one would expect from a Duke game. Over the top shooter with a lot of one liners. I am sure it will not disappoint.
*L.A. Noire: I loved Heavy Rain, figuring stuff out, hoping you’d ask the right questions, gave the right answers, but felt it could have been less quicktime happy and needed a tad more action maybe. L.A. Noire seems set to give it. I am really looking forward to this.
*Deus Ex: Human Revolution: Played and loved the first game, the second one had a great story but the gameplay wasn’t as great as the first one. This one seems to do a great mix between those two games and looks to be an awesome game. I was also glad to hear that it would be one hard game again.
The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim: Played the crap out of Morrowind, played the crap out of Oblivion and will play the crap out of this. Looking at my history with Bethesda games, I’ll most likely play it for about 40 hours, stop because of other games, then take like 2 to 3 weeks in which I only play the game and finish it after about 75 hours. Giving me over 100 hours of gameplay. You don’t get that from a lot of games. But I must say that with the quests they go the Morrowind way. I loved just getting a few directions and you were on your own to find it. Yes I got horribly lost on one of the first missions but that is what was awesome about it. Oblivion was a tad too easy, showing you where to go.
Also hope the guilds go back to their hardcore self. I remember how hard it was getting in the mages guild as a fighter. And how in one guild you’d get missions that involved stealing from or harming another guild.
*Mass Effect 3: Loved Mass Effect, loved Mass Effect 2 even more (besides the whole mineral mining but that evened out agains the driving missions in the first one), so am really looking forward to this one. Hope they listen to the fans even more and bring out one beast of a game.
*Batman Arkham City: Arkham Asylum was one of my favorite games when it came out. Luckily they will tone down the detective vision (at some point it became easier to just keep that vision on all the time, which made you miss a lot of great graphics). Now it looks to be an even bigger playground. Although I must say I was hoping for another big villain instead of the Joker.
*Battlefield 3: No more small maps, the return of planes, tanks and other vehicles. Being able to just walk around the map for ages without seeing anyone while you try to flank a point. That is what made battlefield great and that is what they will be going back to.
*Uncharted 3: Part one blew my mind with it’s graphics but had a few setbacks, but still a great game. Uncharted 2 improved on those points and the graphics were even better. So here’s hoping 3 is even better and sports even better graphics. I can recommend this game to everyone who wants a great action filled platform adventure.
*The Witcher 2: Won’t be on a lot of people their lists but I loved the first game. The huge background story to it all. Big entries on all the creatures you fought, sidequests galore. Scoring with the ladies, different means of getting through the game (and I believe different endings). You could get missions on one playthrough and totally miss them on another. And your choices really reflect on the world. Help the rebelling elves or those set to finish them off. Letting the elves run off with weapons might mean someone with a quest for you gets it before you can get it or finish it.
*Portal 2: Really set the bar for puzzle games. It was funny, the puzzles got harder as you progressed and they just added more features and more humour. I think this will be a great game, and while Portal was a bit short I do hope this one gives a few more hours of playtime fun
I can’t even think of 10 games, maybe E3 will change that. Here’s my list:
6. Star Trek: Infinite Space – Hoping to do right what Star Trek Online did wrong, and it’s free!
5. Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Deus Ex has always seemed interesting to me, but never got the chance to play them.
4. Gears of War 3 – Playing the first one at a friend’s house years ago got me interested in a 360, let’s go out in style Epic.
3. Guild Wars 2 – I had 0 interest in this game until I caught a live stream of their PAX East event. This is exactly what MMOs need right now.
2. Mass Effect 3 – What else needs to be said except “More details please Bioware.”
1. Portal 2 – Valve has proven time and time again that the wait for their games is ALWAYS worth it.
Afraid that my list is rather short and VERY different. But hey, I like what I like.
5- Earth Defense Force Insect Armageddon: Enjoyed the first one very much. The next one is sure to be just as fun.
4- Gears of War 3: Love the first two, and can’t wait for some good co-op fun.
3- The Legend of Zelda Skyward Sword: Hey it’s Zelda, and I like the new game play ideas we are seeing to use the wii-mote.
2- Tales of Graces F: Oh HELL YES. I’ve been waiting for another Tales game to make it over to NA for a LOOOOOONG time!
1-MegaMan Legends 3: MegaMan is like my favorite thing EVER, and I’ve been waiting almost ten years for this game. Sorry, but no other game has me jumping in glee then this one.
I don’t have much games in my list yet, but I will most likely also be checking out Duke Nukem Forever, Serious Sam 3 and LA Noir.
3. Portal 2
2. Red Orchestra 2
1. Battlefield 3
Portal 2 not being in someones top 10 just blows my mind. I mean…
I mean…
Uhmmglaboth. Soobnashuvhrk. Examblokath. Hiddekenamogah.
Seriously.
Anyway, my top things in no order whatsoever (except for the order I list them in):
Dark Souls
Twisted Metal
Portal 2
Dissidia 2 (tho it’s released in March it’s not out yet:p)
Uncharted 3
… yeh, no, actually, that just happens to be the order I’m anticipating them in, too. Coincidence? I think, therefore I am… a coincidence.
Its in mine
1. Red Orchestra 2: Heroes of Stalingrad.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qUVoPbmooTo
2. The Witcher 2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QTHnjePQHPo
3. King Arthur 2: The Role-playing Wargame
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TvAeio7L21U
4. Risen 2
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WPbxZFJQWBA
5. Guild Wars 2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FjCehYrEbO0
6. Shogun 2 (it just came out and I haven’t got it yet so it counts!)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_EQWcB1vXXg
7. Stronghold 3.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e4NlgU9DQDM
8. Battlefield 3.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uA378g_gD1I
9. Torchlight 2.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rl7VITx0k5Q
10. Mount & Blade: With Fire & Sword.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXEIi2fudhU
I don’t know whether I have the funds to buy them all, but here goes my top 4 or 5:
5. Guild Wars 2
4. Mortal Kombat (Even though I don’t own a console.)
3. Dead Island
2. The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
1. Duke Nukem Forever (It better be old-school enough, I dread the regenerating life bar, and only be able to carry two weapons – talk about boring.)
The games that I think are gonna suck, and/or have no interest in at all:
1. X-Com
2. X-Com
3. Star Wars – The Old Republic, I never could give a rat’s ass about WoW, because of it’s weak ass gameplay. What the hell would I care now it got a SW skin?
4. Portal 2 – Portal was fun as a side game, and as long as it remained tied with Half-Life, but now…
5. Modern FPSs, all of them – they suck.
Crysis 2
Duke Nukem Forever
Mortal Kombat
The Witcher 2
Skryrim
Arkham City
Are the games that I will definitely buy no matter what. Of course I will be getting more than that, but those have to wait for a demo to try or a review to read before I decide if they worth my money
Isn’t it sad that I can’t give you a full list – no, scratch that. I can’t give you even a single title I am anticipating. I am sure Portal 2, Last Guardian, Deus Ex etc will be awesome. But I am not actively waiting out for them. I’ll just check them out when they are released, that’s all.
Okay, there is one title I kinda wait for, but it’s for PSP, which I do not have.
It’s a bit depressing, really.
You know joe, i’m really surprised with your list, didn’t have Warhammer 40k in it, and you didn’t have Lord of the Rings War in the North, also no Mortal Kombat. Wondering if those were anywhere on your list. Oh well heres mine.
10. Prince of Persia trilogy HD
9. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus HD
8. Mortal Kombat
7. The Last Guardian
6. LA Noire
5. Star Ward Old Republic
4. Batman: Arkham City
3. Lord of the Rings War In The North
2. Uncharted 3
1. Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
Lotr…… you really want war in the north? May I quote Spoony ?
BETRAYAAAAAL! This game has NOTHING to do with Lotr… except the setting.
But – it’s your list, I was just shocked
I like how gritty it looks, and the setting of the Lord of the Rings, also I like the multiplayer options that the game gives, with an almost MMOish feel. It’s worth giving it a shot, in my opinion.
I like the way when the wizard uses his staff in battle he holds it and fires it like a machine gun. Wait, no, I hate that.
My list isn’t fully 10 since some of the game on your list doesn’t seem appeal to me like X-COM, Rage, and (flame shield up) Skyrim. Maybe down the line after making this list might change, but for now here are my 8 most anticipating games of 2011.
8. Gears of War 3. Little has said about this game, but from the videos and interviews, it’s looking to be a solid title and a fitting end to the current storyline. While I might have to find other accessible ways to get into the beta, I hope they fix the multiplayer to have all the bells and whistles tuned on day one, unlike Gears 2.
7. Uncharted 3. In Naughty dog fashion, there’s gonna be a third game in one of their popular franchises. It should be higher, but my expectations are low to this point. After an amazing job they did w/ U2, it’s hard to top what Naughty Dog has already accomplished. Let’s hope this one doesn’t follow the same path as Crash Bandicoot and Jak and Daxter before, and surprise me and others to be a great game.
6. Swarm. This little Xbox Arcade/PlayStation Network title is right around the corner so I’ll keep it simple. It’s Pikmin+puzzles+hilarious-deaths=a fun title to behold. The guys at Hothead Games, the team behind Deathspank, have been cooking this game for quite some time. It looks like a legit-title w/ something for everyone to enjoy.
5. Batman: Arkham City. Arkham Asylum was a great game that made a surprisingly splash that made playing as Batman fun. At first, the trailers made me speculate if this was gonna be a cash-in title that will never live up the original. But when the gameplay trailer popped up, so did my expectations. The characters look stunning, the combat seem more fluent than ever, and making the whole city your playground has already got me pumped than ever.
4. Dissida Duodecim Final Fantasy (or Dissidia 2 as I call it). Square Enix shocked the fanbase by giving us a fighting game that is awesome. While it has it’s flaws, it didn’t stop me from playing countless hours perfecting each character, and getting every single extra content it provided. W/ Dissidia 2…out at this time of writing and w/ a couple of new characters adding to the already 10+ character roster, and more via DLC, it’s looking to be an awesome title. I’ve played through it’s “demo”, aka, Dissidia Duodecim Prologus-what’s-it-called, and it has made my anticipation for the sequel higher. I really hope Squenix doesn’t screw up.
3. Mortal Kombat. This is the comeback we MK fans have been waiting. After all the “deep” storylines we’ve been spoon-fed from “Deadly Alliance” to “Armageddon”; after enduring the weak Fatalities and blood-less battles of MK Vs. DC; after walking in a 3D field to dodge Scorpion’s Kunai throws w/ little ease, the proud-and-bloody franchise has gone back to it’s roots, and bring back the fun of beating your friends to a pulp. The 2.5-D combat feels natural again. The fatalities are gorier than ever, and the extra Kontent from The Challenge Tower to The Krypt, will add more hours into this game than any other MK titles. Idk if it’ll top Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 off the fighting charts, but it’ll try it’s best to give the fans what they’ve been craving for nearly a decade.
2. Portal 2. I’ve beaten Portal 1 so many times to the point I know what GLaDOS will say next after passing Test Chamber 18 for the tenth time. I’ve gone through those portals many times to see how high can I go w/ them. While Half-Life 2: episode 3 in way into the distance, hopefully Valve puts subtle hints as to what’s on the horizon while we test-subjects go through trial-and-error of solving many chambers GLaDOS throws at us, and w/ co-op into the mix, it’ll make the experience more fun. Not to mention making the PS3 the go-to version since not only does it allow cross-chat between PS3, PC, and Mac players, but rewards PS3 players w/ a free PC/Mac version and cloud-save storage systems, so anyone who saves on the PS3 version will be able to continue that save on their portable laptop of choice. It may sound crazy, but if Valve pulls it off, who knows what they’ll do w/ this technology. The possibilities are endless.
1. Mass Effect 3. Mass Effect 2 was an incredible game. So incredible, it made a bigger impact on me than Red Dead Redemption, a title that got more credit than it deserves. I like RDR, but ME2 did one thing RDR didn’t; I kept on playing it after week one. While it has its flaws, I overlooked them and enjoyed the story it enfolded and characters it introduced. The small teaser just makes me want it more than the ME2 teaser. I can’t wait reload my incendiary ammos, get Garrus and Grunt/another Krogan by my side, and stop the Reapers from destroying planet Earth. Holiday 2011 can’t come any sooner.
I know this is a long comment, but I had to get it out of me.
10. 3DS (yeah, it’s not a game, but I’m still excited)
9. Deus Ex Human Revolution
8. Brink
7. Mortal Kombat
6. Metal Gear Solid Rising
5. Portal 2
4. Mass Effect 3
3. Batman Arkham City
2. L.A. Noire
1. Skyrim
….wait, Joe, did you just say id made Fable? And then call them I D Software?
…..okay, whatever….
Anyway, top 10. Like I’ve often said, 2011 has an overload of pure awesome, meaning I had to cull a lot of what I want, even exclusding the games I already have. With that in mind,
10. Catherine (Atlus created one of the all time gaming masterpieces with Persona 4. While the reports of the gameplay on Catherine have been a little mixed, the storyline is supposedly excellent, with the trademark stunning imagery).
9. inFAMOUS 2 (Sucker Punch have said a lot about this, saying that this will be their Uncharted 2. Considering what I’ve seen, that looks like a very achievable goal for them)
8. Dead Island (Liked Dead Rising 2 a lot, but the trailer for this one was an amazing eye catcher. I’m definitely on the hype train for this one)
7. Journey (Flower is an experience un like any other, the single best thing that can be found on PsN – yes, better than Braid. The sheer beauty of what I’ve seen of Journey simply astounds me, and the premise sounds fantastic)
6. Deus Ex: Human Revolution (Square Enix’s recent track history has caused this one to step backa few places. However, I do really enjoy a stat based RPG with multiple paths, and Deus Ex looks set to run with that far beyod my expectations).
5. Mass Effect 3 (I’m a recent convert to the Mass Effect series, but its easy for me to see why it is so beloved after playing 2. If we can just have more of that, it will be great, but I expect something better still. However, following DE2, well, tempered expectations)
4. LA Noire (see what Joe said. That, and one must support the local industry, ay?)
3. Portal 2 ( What can be said about Portal 2 that hasn’t already been said? Should we discuss the new story, that manages to be so funny yet so intruiging? The new co-op mode, that aactually makes solving puzzles together fun? Or how about the Steamworks that comes with this game?)
2. Uncharted 3 (The awesomeness of this game is assured. Anyone who knows Naughty Dog know they work on a pattern – the first game comes out, its pretty damn good. The second comes out, it blows the first out of the water. The third comes along, and it fixes everything that went wrong in the second, and stands head and shoulders above to be the best in the series. Did it for Crash, did it for Jak, and now, we’re gonna see them do it for Un-fucking-Charted. The graphics look better, the gunfights look smoother, the action looks cooler, the multiplayer more engaging – everything is just better than Uncharted 2. What can top that?)
1. The Last guardian (Do I even need to explain this? Grown men have started weeping at this game’s twist, before we even know there is a twist. This game instantl;y creates an emotional bond deeper than most games can manage in their entirety. Ico and Shadow of the Colossus were warmups – this is the finish. They are pulling out every stop, and they will deliver something the likes of which we have never seen before. This game has my “Number 1. game of all time” spot already reserved – now I’m just waiting with bated breath to be blown away.)
1. Mass Effect 3
2. TES V: Skyrim
3. Batman: Arkham City
4. TERA
5. Portal 2
6. Firefall
7. Brink
8. Journey
9. Motorstorm: Apocalypse
10. L.A. Noir
I’m going to lose SO MUCH MONEY this year! Skyrim, Mass Effect 3, Dark Souls, Uncharted 3, Gears of War 3, The Witcher 2, Alice: Madness Returns… My God.
Why must everything be so excellent? Why?
Top 10:
1: MASS EFFECT 3 (no shit)
2: Portal 2 (Valve… i fucking love them, a multilayer, a bigger story, and it wont be delayed
3: get ready for some MORTAL KOMBAT!!!!
4: Duke Nukem FOREVER (I GOT SOME BALLS OF STEEL!!!)
5: Saints row 3
6: Dead Island
7:Guild wars 2 (Finally a game that can FUCKING KILL WORLD OF WARCRAFT!)
8: Warhammer 40k Space marines(a third- person shooter FINALLY!)
9: Battlefield 3
10:??????
Nothing is going to Kill WoW’s 12million subscribers but it will maybe dent 1% of their following, love the game or hate it, thats just fact.
Am I the only one completely baffled by the World of Warcraft hate on? While I would never pay a monthly fee for anything that didn’t come with a side of sex myself I have watched over the shoulder as friends played and the game is colorful, pretty, huge, and seems to have new material getting added all the time. I think Blizzard has done more than enough to earn its 12 million subscribers.
Is it just people hate things that are popular? The underdogs are good and big dogs are bad mentality?
Heres a list from someone who hates rpgs:
10+1. PSP2 (obviusly its not a game but im looking forward to it)
10. Duke Nukem Forever (Its going to be horrible i know but i cant help it)
9. Metal Gear Solid Rising (It looks gorgeous, but i want move support for it)
8. The Last Guardian (Team Ico, what could go wrong)
7. Batman: Arkham City (Sequel to the game with the best combat of all time, and its batman? sing me up)
6. Diablo 3 (its odd that no one metions this, but i cant wait to see how blizzard is going to ruin my social life in the next couple of year)
5. Battlefield 3 (BF:BC2 was amazing, and this look even better)
4. Rage (I want a proper apocalypse game that i can enjoy)
3. Portal 2 (My body is ready)
2. Twisted Metal ( i want this to be good soooo much)
1. Uncharted 3 (Its fracking Uncharted 3, what else to say about it, it will be the next GoTY)
Also LBP2 and Killzone 3 would be on the list but, they already came out and deliverd excelence.
Rising is a 2012 game.
“Heres a list from someone who hates rpgs:”
“6. Diablo 3 (its odd that no one metions this, but i cant wait to see how blizzard is going to ruin my social life in the next couple of year)”

1.Skyrim (ofc!) [Rpg]
2.Crysis 2 [Fps]

11.Tera [mmorpg
12.Guilwars 2 [mmorpg]
Ah, I see someone else also has TERA on their list
Bioshock Infinite has been pushed to Feb 2012
Mass effect 3…..I have yet to get into the game, my 360 died when I finally got my hands on mass effect and I lagged getting it fixed. My friends are driving me insane with their references, spoilers and whatnot that I began to hate hearing about it.
Deus Ex 3 looks insane!! I want to get it definitely
HELL YES DRAGONS is all I can say about Skyrim.
Portal 2, Mortal Kombat, Rage, L.A.Noire, ARKHAM CITY (another HELL YES),and Kid Icarus just to name a few. I’ll probably end up sampling most games coming out this year anyway.
Sword of the Stars: seriously, Joe, you should put a mustache on that guy on the cover, and a Superman emblem on his chest.
YES! SKYRIM!! I knew it! I just knew you couldn’t pass it up, and here it is at #1! I totally called that one!
But I am disappointed I didn’t see Arkham on there.
Like this:

My top:
10. A New Assassins Creed (All the cliff hanger endings 1, 2 & Brotherhood had, I will be playing the game till they stop making them.)
9. Battlefield 3
8. Gears of War 3
7. Portal 2
6. Rage
5. Dead Island (Going to be so sick, seriously cannot wait for this game just from watching the trailer.)
4. Max Payne 3 (Even though it doesnt have the same writer of 1 & 2, I have faith in Rockstar to pull a great game.)
3. L.A Noire (Visuals, Storyline, Soundtrack, everything just looks amazing.)
2. Twisted Metal (I really hope this game can pull it off and be a legit predecessor to one of my all time favorite franchises, I might just buy a PS3 to play this game)
1. Mortal Kombat (I have seriously been watching every interview, following Ed Boons twitter just to catch every bit of info, my favorite franchise as well)
David Jaffe says its the best Twisted Metal ever.
While I’ll probably look at a few reviews first to make sure they didn’t make everything blatnently obvious like you fear, I’m definately interested in LA Noir. While most of those PC games unfortunalty look way outside my hardware’s capabilities, I do think they look pretty damned awsome.
A few games I’m looking forward to this year (that many people might not have even heard of) are: Metro 2034 and Stronghold 3. Stronghold was one of my favorite series from the begining of the century and will hopefully apologize for the last two entries in the series. Metro 2033 was my forvorite game from 2010, period.
I’m totally with you on ME3 and I’m looking forward to Rage (though I’d probably take a wait and see approach on it along with L.A. Noire). Skyrim’s fallen off the radar for me lately, I’d actually never seen the trailer you showed, but that does look vastly improved over 4 (which I still have more fun with than fallout 3). Arkham City’s definitely on my list too. Can’t wait for August for Deus Ex: Human Revolution too. My number one has to be Portal 2 though.
Mi List:
10. Battlefield 3, 9. Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, 8. RAGE, 7. L.A. Noire, 6. Journey, 5. Infamous 2
4. Batman: Arkham City, 3. Deus Ex: Human Revolution, 2. Mass Effect 3, 1. Portal 2
Number 10 is Xcom the FPS.
What the fuck is wrong with you.
It’s most anticipated, not necessarily most wanted.
…the hell is the difference?
No the use of the word “most” is part of it and that justifies my RAGE!!.
I mean come on one of the greatest turn based games ever made is now getting turned into a FPS with no connection to the first game.
It will not have any of the same enemy’s, weapons, base building, economy management, squad management, over world control and it is not even set in the same time period.
It is x-files the FPS not god dam Xcom.
My list:
10.????
9.????
8.Mario Kart 3DS
7.Super Mario 3DS
6.Saints Row 3
5.Portal 2
4.Elder Scrolls V
3.Gears of War 3 (Looks great)
2.Batman: Arkham City (Looks fantastic, I loved Arkham Asylum.)
1. Mortal Kombat (My favorite franchise since I was a child, cannot wait for this game!)
