Angry Joe, Jacob & Other Joe record their first Let’s Play Game Commentary for the Kids Only title, Kinectimals! What crazy adventures await?
Kinectimals, one of the most talked-about launch titles for the Kinect, is essentially a collection of mini-games threaded together by an adventure story. While it suffers from minor repetition, it is a great title for kids and virtual cub enthusiasts alike.

Of all the Kinect launch titles revealed at E3, Kinectimals was probably the one that raised the most eyebrows. When it was shown, all we were given was a brief stint where a girl played with her virtual cub named Skittles. That’s little to go on, but it was fairly indicative of just what Kinectimals is all about.
| PROS | Responsive controls, and a great game for kids |
| CONS | Mini-games are fairly repetitive |
| WTF?! | The fairy who helps you is voiced by the same person as Raz from Psychonauts |
It’s worth mentioning that Kinectimals isn’t much more than a collection of mini-games wedged between an adventure story. While you can change it up and do things like pet, feed, or wash your cub, there’s not really a lot of things to do outside of the offered games. In order to progress, you must throw frisbees and balls, perform in races, kick soccer balls, and other similar activities. As you do this, you accumulate experience that enables you to go to more and more places in the game. Sans the races, just about all of the games feel roughly the same. You’re generally throwing or kicking objects and aiming for targets, which can make playing through the entire game ultimately feel like a chore after a while.
To be fair, I am not the intended audience for this game. This is a kid’s game through and through, but it’s a pretty damn good one at that. I wasn’t a fan of the repetitious mini-games, but that isn’t something that would take away too much from the experience for kids. That being said, this is not a game for anyone looking for a challenge. While the game definitely increases in difficulty as it progresses, there’s no point where it could be considered difficult. It’s a breezy experience, but what’s offered is still good fun for those willing to overcome the stigma of playing with virtual animals.
In a sea of sports titles that necessitate at least a slight semblance of accurate motion detection, Kinectimals somehow reigns supreme. It’s surprising just how well this game can read your movements, and it actually lacked problems that I previously thought were inherent in all Kinect titles. Most of the time when you walk out of the range of the camera while playing a Kinect game, it will warn you of this, wait for you to get back to the proper place, and take a moment to scan you in. With Kinectimals, though, I was able to leave the room for a few minutes and return to the game as though I’d never left.
I rarely experienced any spazzes or failures to recognize what I was doing throughout the course of the game. There were a few moments when throwing items or trying to teach my cub tricks that the game failed to register just where I was and where I was aiming, but this was a rare occurrence. It’s a good thing it was so infrequent, too, because you will be doing a lot of things that need proper motion detection. While it’s far from perfect, Kinectimals definitely does an excellent job of keeping proper tabs on your actions.
Angry Joe Plays Kinectimals – Part 2!, 4.2 out of 5 based on 65 ratings
With the money it takes to buy this game and the Kinect, you could buy a REAL pet.
I think this is more orientated towards young girls. Seeing as girls tend to love “taking care” of things, like baby dolls or cute lil animals. I’m an adult… and I still want to cuddle these adorable lil kitties.
Anyway, well-written Dant!
I might secretly want this game. Ladeda. Ladeda.
The cubs look adorable and so detailed ![]()
The game looks gorgeous, comparing it to other kinect tittles. Maybe they’ll do a bit more with it the next time around. maybe make it more pleasing to adults; make the cubies grow up and perhaps a RPish leveling system for them. I’de buy that ![]()
My daughter would absolutely adore this game. One of these days, I’ll have to actually get a 360.

You say this makes a good kids game, but whoever said kids games couldn’t be challenging? I remember when you could make a game for kids, and developers weren’t afraid to to give kids limited lives and continues, challenging puzzles, and intensives to complete objectives.
You may say children prefer these repetitive mini game titles that seem to cash in on its cuteness factor, but if this was the case, my 7 year old cousin wouldn’t be playing borderlands and COD:black ops over this stuff. ( games not intended for his age group)
They can be hard! This one just isn’t. I didn’t say they “prefer” them, either. I just said it’s a good game for kids.
Those games aren’t intended for his age group because of the violent content, not the difficulty.
All I was saying was the reason kids may prefer these more mature games is because they provide a challenge they wouldn’t likely find in games intended for their age group. Other than games like Sonic Colors or Kirby’s epic yarn, a good amount of kids games now days don’t provide much challenge at all, and amount to nothing than “change your baby’s diaper” sim or minigames for the whole family.
Also I know why games get their ratings, I’m just stating that more thought is usually put into more mature games rather than kids games.

This game does look fairly cute but I don’t think I would pick it up and…I can’t resist it anymore! Awww! So cute! How adorable! XP And, in JewWarios words, KITTY!
Aww, it looks like a modern version of Catz! Can you get them high with cat-nip?

lol Jacob is really funny! xD
I believe this game has hit the “uncanny valley” for animals. I find the animals more creepy then cute.
Anyway, wonderful stuff!
yeah Tiger got rescured from the Golem Pixie…cat thing. These are fun to watch
Absolutely love this, can’t wait to see more.
Angry Joe is the shit!
This was funny. I like they guys messing around and having a good time. Otherwise this game doesn’t seem like it would be very entertaining.
Not bad for your first LP, though I would suggest talking over the in game dialogue as little as possible.
Looking forward to your Cabela’s LP.

Joe… you guys sounded stoned/drunk out of your minds, but damn it, this video was funny. I loved it.
“Fuck this vegetarian shit! Get him some meat!”
Joe is a good daddy. <3
Great review Joe! You can tell you guys are having a lot of fun messing around with the game.
Well he’s obviously enjoying this more than Sonic Free Riders or Fable 3.
It’s also a “great game to play with your nongamer girlfriend.”
Time for a little Tai Kwon Joe.
Invader Lem.
Nice pic…looks like he’s grabbing your balls.
I saw an orangutan down the road selling that same item for half that shit!
“laughs”
Yep that was funny. Also glad you officially renamed him, now maybe he’ll respond when you call.
Joe quit whining or your grounded lol
I mean for a mini-game collection this looks interesting enough, I still hate that pixie though
Wait….Tiger was a blue tiger….not a maltese tiger…
Just checked the gamefaq for this, I hope you unlock the bobcat cub….since that´s the closes to a lynx we get *grumbles at the games racism against lynxes, fluffing my cheek fur*
Fun stuff guys. I rented this game a couple weeks ago and the name thing gave me a bit of trouble too. I had to speak pretty loud and a bit slowly for the game to accept what I was saying. Course having three guys saying random names all at once probably didn’t help too much either. Anyway, looking forward to the next segment.
I wanna see more of this game, but dear lord I can’t stand how you guys screw up the most simple tasks by not paying the slightest bit of attention and always arguing and whining. Joe, if you want something done, stand up and stop trying to direct your friends.
However, if you did stop the screwing around, I can tell that this would be such a boring game, so I don’t know what to think.
The voice actor of the weird lil flying dude is Richard Steven Horvitz of Psychonauts, Invader Zim, Destroy All Humans, Angry Beavers, Brutal Legends (briefly) and many MANY more.
Personally, I’m a bit of a fan, ever since Angry Beavers and Psychonauts ^^
Joe is such a good father figure
well to Tiger at least :p
That was funny
what the f+uck are you doing Joe!!? First all these shitty Kinect reviews then you get your ass kicked at VGAs and now THIS, three overgown fratboys, immature kids in disguise, doing embarassing stuff, spurting nonsense and non-funny comments. You know perfectly well that non of you audience is interested in this shit. And if you’re so into motion gaming, ar least stop being a fanboy and show us the Move. This is not Angryjoe, this is most likely cutesyPotheadJoe.
im loosing respect for you, and fast
Makes me feel embarrassed enough for all three of them.
—–.———–
tldr; go back to scripted form and real games .
Yea, seriously dude. Don’t speak for me cause you do not represent my opinion on how Angry Joe should be. I find these LP’s very entertaining and judging by the negative responses to your post I’m far from the only one.
aa haha I imagine you already
Some hardcore gamer blogger.. bit fat, pony tail, pimples..
munching on doughnut “[munch, munch] Damn you Joe! Don’t you dare reviewing games I don’t like uuuh.. I am so angry now uuh [fart]! Mom! Bring me phone I will call Joe.. and bring me new pants!”
Funniest moments: “I found a frisbee!” and “I saw an orangutan sell these at half the price”!
Priceless video.
Joe still sounded high as hell. This wasn’t all that amusing. It seemed like a bunch of half outa it frat boys screwing around. And you guys had problems with the naming part agai it seems. I dont know if you were all drunk or what but it really isn’ that hard. When you all shout stuff at the same time, and do different names, of course its gonna get confused
I had to create an account just to tell you guys how much I enjoyed this! Especially that “pose” for the picture at the end. That just cracked me the hell up.
I loved when you were calling Skittles “Bluey” in the first part, I wish you’d have used that name. But, Tiger’s okay. I really liked someone else’s suggestion of “Bluefasa” though!
If there’s going to be another part, I am DEFINITELY looking forward to it.
And finally, DON’T MOLEST TIGER! Bad touch, bad touch!!
That was a great LP guys
HAHAH! That was great, you’re a natural at Lps Joe, and your friends.
Can’t wait to see your hunting LP with that Cabella game.
Once again, I was laughing through the whole video at your comments and just how silly you guys were acting, especially when you took that picture, Joe pretty much overshadowed everyone else. At least in my opinion, this is such an awesome LP and kind of makes me rethink what I thought of the kinect.. but I’m still in no hurry to buy it. Maybe if it gets cheaper, I’ll think about it but for now I’ll just watch you guys play. Can’t wait for the next one, glad you got Tiger back. xD
Beating the game? Make sure you get the Sabre Tooth Tiger then for completing the game.
Good to see that Tiger eventually got his real name.
I thought that by scanning the monkey toy you were gonna get a monkey ¬¬ Is big cats all there is?
there is only cats, because it’s the same animal with different textures.
Should’ve called it Kinecticats then. Even though that sounds kind of like Connecticut.
They couldn’t do that. If they did, even morons would realize it’s a ripoff of Nintendogs. They have to fool their target audience into thinking Kinectimals is something original, of course.
Lol, this was so funny!
very funny video ))
