I believe this game has hit the “uncanny valley” for animals. I find the animals more creepy then cute.

Not bad for your first LP, though I would suggest talking over the in game dialogue as little as possible.

Well he’s obviously enjoying this more than Sonic Free Riders or Fable 3.

It’s also a “great game to play with your nongamer girlfriend.”

Fun stuff guys. I rented this game a couple weeks ago and the name thing gave me a bit of trouble too. I had to speak pretty loud and a bit slowly for the game to accept what I was saying. Course having three guys saying random names all at once probably didn’t help too much either. Anyway, looking forward to the next segment.

I wanna see more of this game, but dear lord I can’t stand how you guys screw up the most simple tasks by not paying the slightest bit of attention and always arguing and whining. Joe, if you want something done, stand up and stop trying to direct your friends.

However, if you did stop the screwing around, I can tell that this would be such a boring game, so I don’t know what to think.

I had to create an account just to tell you guys how much I enjoyed this! Especially that “pose” for the picture at the end. That just cracked me the hell up.

I loved when you were calling Skittles “Bluey” in the first part, I wish you’d have used that name. But, Tiger’s okay. I really liked someone else’s suggestion of “Bluefasa” though!

If there’s going to be another part, I am DEFINITELY looking forward to it.

Once again, I was laughing through the whole video at your comments and just how silly you guys were acting, especially when you took that picture, Joe pretty much overshadowed everyone else. At least in my opinion, this is such an awesome LP and kind of makes me rethink what I thought of the kinect.. but I’m still in no hurry to buy it. Maybe if it gets cheaper, I’ll think about it but for now I’ll just watch you guys play. Can’t wait for the next one, glad you got Tiger back. xD

They couldn’t do that. If they did, even morons would realize it’s a ripoff of Nintendogs. They have to fool their target audience into thinking Kinectimals is something original, of course.

Kinectimals, one of the most talked-about launch titles for the Kinect, is essentially a collection of mini-games threaded together by an adventure story. While it suffers from minor repetition, it is a great title for kids and virtual cub enthusiasts alike.

Kinectimals Review

Kinectimals Review

Of all the Kinect launch titles revealed at E3, Kinectimals was probably the one that raised the most eyebrows. When it was shown, all we were given was a brief stint where a girl played with her virtual cub named Skittles. That’s little to go on, but it was fairly indicative of just what Kinectimals is all about.

PROSResponsive controls, and a great game for kids
CONSMini-games are fairly repetitive
WTF?!The fairy who helps you is voiced by the same person as Raz from Psychonauts

It’s worth mentioning that Kinectimals isn’t much more than a collection of mini-games wedged between an adventure story. While you can change it up and do things like pet, feed, or wash your cub, there’s not really a lot of things to do outside of the offered games. In order to progress, you must throw frisbees and balls, perform in races, kick soccer balls, and other similar activities. As you do this, you accumulate experience that enables you to go to more and more places in the game. Sans the races, just about all of the games feel roughly the same. You’re generally throwing or kicking objects and aiming for targets, which can make playing through the entire game ultimately feel like a chore after a while.

To be fair, I am not the intended audience for this game. This is a kid’s game through and through, but it’s a pretty damn good one at that. I wasn’t a fan of the repetitious mini-games, but that isn’t something that would take away too much from the experience for kids. That being said, this is not a game for anyone looking for a challenge. While the game definitely increases in difficulty as it progresses, there’s no point where it could be considered difficult. It’s a breezy experience, but what’s offered is still good fun for those willing to overcome the stigma of playing with virtual animals.

If only they acted this way when they grew up

In a sea of sports titles that necessitate at least a slight semblance of accurate motion detection, Kinectimals somehow reigns supreme. It’s surprising just how well this game can read your movements, and it actually lacked problems that I previously thought were inherent in all Kinect titles. Most of the time when you walk out of the range of the camera while playing a Kinect game, it will warn you of this, wait for you to get back to the proper place, and take a moment to scan you in. With Kinectimals, though, I was able to leave the room for a few minutes and return to the game as though I’d never left.

I rarely experienced any spazzes or failures to recognize what I was doing throughout the course of the game. There were a few moments when throwing items or trying to teach my cub tricks that the game failed to register just where I was and where I was aiming, but this was a rare occurrence. It’s a good thing it was so infrequent, too, because you will be doing a lot of things that need proper motion detection. While it’s far from perfect, Kinectimals definitely does an excellent job of keeping proper tabs on your actions.

I think this is more orientated towards young girls. Seeing as girls tend to love “taking care” of things, like baby dolls or cute lil animals. I’m an adult… and I still want to cuddle these adorable lil kitties.

    Anyway, well-written Dant!

I might secretly want this game. Ladeda. Ladeda.

The cubs look adorable and so detailed :)
The game looks gorgeous, comparing it to other kinect tittles. Maybe they’ll do a bit more with it the next time around. maybe make it more pleasing to adults; make the cubies grow up and perhaps a RPish leveling system for them. I’de buy that ;)

You say this makes a good kids game, but whoever said kids games couldn’t be challenging? I remember when you could make a game for kids, and developers weren’t afraid to to give kids limited lives and continues, challenging puzzles, and intensives to complete objectives.

You may say children prefer these repetitive mini game titles that seem to cash in on its cuteness factor, but if this was the case, my 7 year old cousin wouldn’t be playing borderlands and COD:black ops over this stuff. ( games not intended for his age group)

They can be hard! This one just isn’t. I didn’t say they “prefer” them, either. I just said it’s a good game for kids.

Those games aren’t intended for his age group because of the violent content, not the difficulty.

All I was saying was the reason kids may prefer these more mature games is because they provide a challenge they wouldn’t likely find in games intended for their age group. Other than games like Sonic Colors or Kirby’s epic yarn, a good amount of kids games now days don’t provide much challenge at all, and amount to nothing than “change your baby’s diaper” sim or minigames for the whole family.

Also I know why games get their ratings, I’m just stating that more thought is usually put into more mature games rather than kids games.
