Here’s My Question. Why Isn’t There A Best Kinect Game….I Mean the Kinect was release before NFS: Hot Pursuit. We All Know That The Best Kinect Game Is DANCE CENTRAL. It Could Of Been The Best Dance Game 0r The Best Music Game. And It Could 0f Been The Best Soundtrack, Even Dance Central Had Almost Every Best Songs To Dance To. So How Come They Don’t Have Dance Central In The VGA 0r Perhaps Have The Best Kinect Game At Least… I’m Sorry, I Don’t Mean VGA I’m Mean SAVAGE……… SHITTY ARSE VIDE0 ASS GAME ERECTI0N.

Yea….. This years VGA’s where preeeeeety lame.
Neil Patric Harris was pretty good. Olivia Munn was annoying but hott as usual.
    Overall pretty weak.
Not like I didn’t see it coming though.
Just glad Red Dead got game of the year, much deserved award.

what the hell was the deal with that GOW thing they did was Kratos fight Hades and all these Computer chains and ghosts or whatever were shooting out all over the place…… I just didn’t get it, did the audience see what the viewers at home where seeing? or what? was it supposed to be 3D or something? I dunno, I just didn’t get it.

Thought it was pretty lame that Neil Patric Harris won best voice acting over all those other talents and he just so conveniently happened to be hosting the show….. (facepalm)

this was a step down from the progression of making this ceremony memorable, only two this were on the dot great out of the WHOLE show. 1) the live performance of one of the best and memorable tracks in RDR (when john marston is crossing the boarder, awesome) and when naughty dog showed their trailer; knowing the history of naughty dog; every single cut scene is still using the same models as the one in gameplay. not only that; its the only trailer that showed at least a decent amount of gameplay compared to none. i just pray to god that batman doesn’t become the FF14 where we have to wait 5 years for something decent (fucking square enix) that shows laziness of the company; its been a full year since they announced the last teaser trailer for batman:AC in the previous VGA. in the end the COTY was unnecessary, the celebrity faces were a waste of time, MCR sucks ass, almost all the trailers did not show any game play(except UC3, resistance 3), overall a disappointment, i hope the ppl AJ talked to in the interview can learn from their mistakes and let our voice go one ear out the other.

    Here’s a question.

Why can’t the developers come up stage and give an acceptance speech? Also, why do we keep nominating insignificant roles like Kristen Bell in Assassin’s creed as voice over nominees? Do we have to cater to the stupid celebrities who probably haven’t played a game in their life?

One of my biggest complaints is the lack of Wii games for the “Game of the Year” category. Every year, they fail to recognize some of the most amazing games to come out that year that were on Wii. Super Mario Galaxy 2, not nominated. In 2007, Metroid Prime 3 and Mario Galaxy weren’t nominated. In 2008, SSBB wasn’t nominated. In 2006, Twilight Princess wasn’t nominated. So my question is why are Wii games, no matter how amazing, ever nominated for “Game of the Year?”

have you ever considered making your game like a true award show with more knowledgeable people deciding instead of people only voting for the game they bought.

for example if the Oscars did the same thing the recent twilight movie would probably be voted as the best movie.

I know that VGA’s isn’t much of an actual award show and is more akin to the Kids’ Choice Awards or MTV Awards rather than the Oscars or Emmys. But I would really like to see if they could at least select nominees based on what other developers and publishers believe are good examples of gaming before moving on to popularity contests. I’m not sure how to put that in the form of a question, it has just been one of my problems with the VGA’s.

Also, better categories for awards. Many of them seem redundant, especially when the games overlap the categories so much (best music game/best soundtrack, etc.). And though they do give a nod to RPG, FPS, sports, racing, and other genres. They are missing out on some very prominent ones, such as platformers, RTS, and survival horror. Speaking off, where the hell is Amnesia: Dark Descent? Never before has a game made me feel like I fell into another persons nightmare, and so scared to continue, it would at least be a nominee in the Best PC game!

TL;DR: It’s not a real awards show, but that’s what they’re going for, just refine the voting and categories, the presentation is exactly how they want it (A multi-hour video game/Spike TV commercial)

Why not just change your title and drop the charade? It serves you no benefeit, and only serves to hurt our image, both in public and among ourselves.

just registered to see if you can get an answer to this question,

what kind of process do they go through in picking music to nominate for soundtrack category?
i ask because when i think of this category, i think of the scoring in games since they have gotten progressively closer to memorable movie scores qualities like the music scores of Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 2, Assassin’s Creed, etc.

p.s.- what the hell is up with the actor/actress nominations? why not nominate voice actors like those found in Red Dead, Lords of Shadow, Mass Effect 2, Etc.?

I just went to their website and saw, in the ”Instant Updates”, someone called ”Biff2bad” vote three times for Halo Reach in the ”Game of the Year” section. Having the ability to vote multiple times in the same category of five nominees just doesn’t make any sense, at least for me

So the question is: How reliable is your voting system? And if it has any sort of protection, why do I see that same person voting three times for the same game?

Do you think highly successful MMORPGs such as World of Warcraft will eventually affect how publishers will enforce monthly fees to highly anticipated and/or popular titles like Call of Duty?

We all know the that in Bobby Kotick’s dream world, you’d pay to play Call of Duty Multiplayer. Also, seeing how World of Warcraft makes more in 2 months than what a popular game makes with initial sales, it’s not that off to think that maybe this avarice will come one day.

I never seen a VGA but I want to throw out what sould be there even though they might already have some of these.

    There should be Nominees for:

    Best Downloadable Game

    Best Indie Game

    Best Orginal Soundtrack

    Best Orginal Concept

    Most Humorous Game

Best Licence Useage (Like for a game made from a movie for example)

    Best Ultra-violent game

    Best Open World/Sandbox game

Best Revival (Like Splatterhouse for example)

    Best T H I R D Person shooter

Besides Nominees they should also have

Gaming Decathlon where players race against each other to complete certian tasks, For example the event might go like this:

Beat the first two levels of Metal Slug Arcade, then

Finish Three Selected Gang hideout of Red Dead Redemption on with Expert Targeting, then

Destroy 200 bad guys in Star Fox 64 and finally

Rack up 50,000 points in Super Mario Bros. 3

Do this in the fastest time and win!

Have host a sweepstakes to win free stuff! YAY!

And Lastly have a retrospect for the year to end the Event.

    GOOD LUCK ANGRY JOE!!!
    and happy VGAs!

Hi Joe, here is my question.

Question: I want to ask why is it that every year there happen to be no Nintendo Wii games on the Game of the Year list.

Why it should make you angry Joe:

For example, in 2007 when Super Mario Galaxy was released in November 2007, I was expecting it to be on the nomination list. For me I thought that it would have shown a mass audience that video games could be simple and fun, and don’t have to be violent to still make the list. But no, it did not win… It didn’t even make it to the nomination list! This wouldn’t have been a big deal, if it wasn’t the highest rated game this generation. I have yet to find a review that scored it under a nine.
Now, Super Mario Galaxy 2 came out this year, and the same thing happens. Practically the same scores as last time.

These are some suggestions for the VGA’s that I would like to see implemented in the near future.

    1. I would like to see a contest issued to schools for Game Design to develop a game to be presented on the show. Each school would have a decent timeline to get into teams and submit students work for the show to present. This would be to show some of the talent that these schools have in them. Something also that would really look good on a students resume.

    2. Retro Awards, I would like to see some retro awards given to games that still hold up in this time of 3D. Back when all there was ; was 2D. Even though technology is moving fast we shouldn’t forget what was.

    3. Design Awards, for best design, Models , textures, over all level. Things like that . These things sometimes get ignored and are sometimes the best feature in the game. That brings you into the world. Just an idea on this.

    4. MOD award. There are a lot of people that do mods for different types of games. I would like to see them acknowledged. Some people put a great deal of work into creating these.

    5. DLC award best DLC release.

My first suggestion is the one I truly believe would be the best of all of these. There are upcoming designers from schools that truly deserve to be recognized for their talents. Some may never have that given to them and they push themselves so hard to do what they can do best.

I have plenty more but these are the 5 I would like to see most and if I had to choose 1, it would be my first suggestion.

hey guys so i quess the questions i have or would say would be rad to hear get asked are

    1. how he feels about ideas like playstation rewards program were gamers get rewarded to play or incentives for there hours spent gaming and if he feels its a good idea/bad idea or if other consoles and or company’s should catch on to this idea and reward gamers for spending there time and money on company’s kinda like a thank you from the company’s for standing by the product an also investing in them

    2. pretty simple question but would be an interesting question for him seeing as how games now a days are coming out all the time giving us so much to choose from but also giving us a lot of games that could be considered as “similar” to one another what would he do or want to see happen to the gaming industry to change that or to really better the industry or even just what he would like to see happen in the future of gaming

hope it goes well Joe! give the VGA hell for all of us an best of luck while ur there!

I joined this simply so I could post my questions, many of which are asked by commenters before me.

    1) How does Spike TV figure out which games to nominate for which categories?

    2) For “Best Soundtrack”, shouldn’t there be a restriction that the category only counts for ORIGINAL game music composition? I recall that Tommy Tallarico and Video Games Live were on the awards show once, and they’re all about ORIGINAL game music. Not the Rock Band set list!

    3) The Academy Awards ceremony always focuses on the movies that stood out from the year BEFORE the year the ceremony is held. Why not do the same with games, maybe setting a cut off date some time in the summer so as to measure whether a game has any good staying power or not? Games that are just released should not count since there’s no way to get good reviews and impressions in time for the show!

    4) I would like to see categories that are NOT sponsored. That just De-Values the worth of the Category and makes them feel unimportant. Why did “Best Indie Game” have to be “Fueled By Dew”? Shouldn’t Indie games get recognition regardless? And how do you define Indie game?

    5) Instead of getting lame ass bands like My Chemical Romance, I’d rather see bands like “The Minibosses”, “Protomen”, “Brentalfloss”, or “Amanaguchi” perform instead of some alternative rock group. If you’re going to have musical performances, shouldn’t they ALL be video game related? And being included in the set list of Rock Band or Guitar Hero does NOT count!

    6) How involved are actual video game professionals involved in this show? The GDC is held every year, and they have their own awards show. Shouldn’t you guys be taking their thoughts and opinions into consideration? And while input from video game journalists is good, that input is WORTHLESS unless it’s also joined with input by developers.

    7) Instead of celebrities hosting the VGA awards, shouldn’t it be hosted by someone who knows games in some form or another, like Adam Sessler, Tim Schafer, or heck even, I dunno, GEoff Keighly?

    8) Why did Spike TV create the awards show in the first place, and what changes have been made over time because of fan response? Did they get a lot of hate mail when they announced their Game of the Year at the start of the show, and announced it to be Madden 2004?

The only person i can think of to host the VGA’s has to be Nolan North. Ok, maybe David Hayter, but you probably want a prominent video game voice to be the voice for video games’ awards.

So yeah, probably the question would be “Who specifically from the Video Game Industry is involved with the award show?”

Why are games that are nominated for awards often just released or are not even out yet? Why does it seem like the show caters to the lowest common denominator, as if Tits & Ass and machismo explosions are all that we gamers care about? I understand if the show serves as a hype machine for games, but do games that are guaranteed to sell a million copies need any more hype than TV commercials and Gamestop plugs already give them by winning awards that they may not truly deserve? Do the nominators know the difference between music games and game soundtracks? Do you know that most gamers do not watch the video game awards other than to see new trailers for games. Where are the real gaming celebrities? How about a really jaw dropping host?! Why not have the fans choose their own winners by typing in their own nominations instead of it being from a list of titles previously chosen by a obviously non-gaming committee. Where are the PC games, strategy games, retro games, downloable games and Japanese games, and why aren’t they more represented? Do you know how crazy people would go if Shigeru Miyamoto came out on stage and showed off the new Zelda?! If you can’t get him how about slightly less famous developers like Michiru Yamane coming out to play a Castlevania medley?!

    hey Joe.

It’s great to hear that the VGA’s have finally inviuted someone who is not afraid to speak his mind.

i would like to know why they have nominated a simple racing game like Mod-Nation Racers as the best ps3 game this year. i mean, the game is good, yeah. but not “award wining” good. it seems like they have nominated it more because its a Playstation exclusive than because its a great game. i would rather have seen a game like AC: Brotherhood or Fallout New Vegas get nominated. and that because i dont think a game Like Mod-Nation Racers is gonna stand a chance against the other nominees for the best ps3 game.

    Thats my question. thanks ;)

1: why are PC games not as important? They’re just as important as the console games.

2: how do they pick the nominees? Do they play it or just pick it from a list of popular titles?

3: why do they not have game developers host the show or give out rewards?

and 4: WHY IS FINAL FANTASY 13 NOMINATED FOR BEST RPG!? That wasn’t an RPG that was an excuse of a good series!

Correction… FF13 was not a poor excuse of a good series, it was the assassination of a great series. Just how Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within should have just been called “The Spirits Within” FF13 should have been called something entirely different. It did not deserve the title of Final Fantasy. Hell… it wasn’t even an RPG (at least I don’t think so)

true. However I considered Final Fantasy 14 to be the assassination of the series. While 13 was a terrible game (especially since it cant even work on old ps3′s) I found 14 to be just a tad worse. With the 8 hours of play, confusing gameplay, lack of tutorial, and just a bland world in general. Only thing that keeps it below the list of bad games for me is the exploration that 13 lacked.

You have a point there… They did put a limit on fun and make a game that was completely unenjoyable… However… The series was founded on standard RPG guidelines and concepts… Those were destroyed in FF13… The Final Fantasy name was destroyed in 14…. They better do something spectacular for 15 to regain their fans. You know… make it a free roaming RPG like it used to be? Hell… if they put out for FF15 a 2-D free roaming RPG on all systems that brought back an awesome story line, creative characters, a kick-ass score, and awesome villains, my faith would be restored in the series. I could care less about the graphics of it all. Save that for pretty cut scenes.

My Question: Why wasn’t Super Mario Galaxy nominated for overall game of the year? Especially considering it was the highest-rated game released this year? Is it because it doesn’t have blood in it? What about non-action games, like Starcraft and Civilization V? These nominations seem to be more about appealing to the Spike audience than about highlighting the greatest games of the year.

Geoff Keighely? Former G4/Tech TV host, and now host of GTTV and the Bonus Round over on Gametrailers.com? Given that he’s an executive producer, I’d honestly be surprised if he’s done anything on the show, especially when you also take into consideration that he seems to be just about everywhere in the gaming media these days.

Anyway, my only question is why perpetuate negative stereotypes about gamers? I mean, they treat us like we all live in our parents basement and have never seen a woman before, that and not all of us like to just run around and shoot things in Halo and Call of Duty, where’s the love for the RPG, RTS, and puzzle game fans? Perhaps they need new hosts and a new team behind the scenes, hey what’s ‘ol Tommy Talarico doing these days?

    3) How about a Video Game Hall Of Fame? Where you nominate games that have had a major impact on the gaming industry (a positive impact, duh).

    4) Are you going to take the questions asked by Joe seriously, and really give a noteworthy effort to improve on the aspects pointed out by the gamers who actually gives a crap about games?!?!

A few VGA peeves that need to be addressed:

["Best Performance by a Human Male/Female"]
Really? Did you really need to specify WHAT was giving the performance? Unless they’re going to start giving out awards for “Best Performance by an Artificial Being” or “Best Performance by an Inanimate Object”, they seriously need to call it something less…”retarded”.

    ["Best Adapted Video Game"]
NEVER AGAIN. That’s almost as bad as last year’s “Best Independent Game Fueled by Dew”.

    ["Best Soundtrack"]
Was it really necessary? I would think “Best Original Score” would cover that area. I wouldn’t be so worked up about this category if it wasn’t COMPLETELY FILLED WITH MUSIC GAMES!

    ["Best Song in a Game"]
    What. The. HELL?!
Is this the MTV freakin’ Music Awards? Of all the songs in today’s video games, why did they go with these songs?
The more I think about it, the more I’m puzzled that only Red Dead Redemption has the honor of being nominated for Best Song AND Best Original Score.
In any case, of the six nominations:
-Four of them are made by some pretty popular artists in the US. Considering the origin of the VGAs, this just irks me.
-Three of these songs were never made FOR the games they were featured in. Okay, “Won’t Back Down” maybe (that’s a BIG maybe), but “Black Rain” and “Basket Case” were in the works/released well over a decade ago! If that’s the case, why don’t we nominate “Blue Moon” from Fallout: New Vegas?
-”GoldenEye” is an odd case since both the song and the game were loosely based on the film of the same name, but they’re still very different from the source material. It’s hard for me to argue its place in this category, so I’ll allow this one to slide.
-”Far Away” seems to be the only song to remain on this list unscathed. Sure, there were other songs from the game that could’ve been used (Deadman’s Gun seems to be the most popular to debate with), but it’s simply a matter of one’s preference.
That COULD be said for the other entries, but this IS supposed to be a VIDEO GAME AWARDS show. That being said, can you say with complete certainty that these songs are ideal representatives of this year’s musical achievements in video gaming?
I’m sorry, but when you fail to give a spot to “Heavens Divide” from MGS: Peace Walker (the fact that it’s being nominated for “Best Portable Game” means SOMEONE must’ve heard it!)because you’re too much of an attention whore to let your BFFs Harmonix and Activision down (not to mention MTV and EA), there’s a serious problem here and it needs to be addressed.
If you’re like a good deal of people who refuse to own and/or simply doesn’t have a PSP or care much for the Metal Gear series in general, here is the song in question:
    http://youtu.be/7lTOnPc9h-c
This song practically sold the game for me when it debuted in the TGS09 trailer, and yet they couldn’t find it in them to nominate it in this year’s VGAs.
Why? Because they were saving that spot for some stupid mash-up song on DJ FREAKIN’ HERO 2!

I’ve said all that I need to say.
Congratulations on securing some interview time with Mr. Keighley, Joe.
Give ‘em hell for the years they’ve spent insulting the very fanbase they claim to represent and good luck at the VGAs!

Here are my questions if I were to ask.
    1) What is the basis of the nomination of the nominees? Because last year and way before it always feels like just a popularity contest. Which never takes into consideration a games artistic merit, story telling or game play.
    2) Why is there no category for best PSP, PC, DS or Iphone games?
    3) What is the idea behind adding the award best Adaptation?
And I have some suggestions for celebrities to bring in and give out rewards
    1) Angry Joe (Obviously)
    2) Ben “Yahtzee” Croshaw – Zero Punctuation
    3) The guys from Extra Credits
    4) The peope, from RoosterTeeth and Mega64
    5) AVGN
    6) Spoony
    7) And maybe the DEVELOPERS of video games
Also some ideas for the VGAs.
    1. Give out Giveaways during the show (PS3 Move Bundle etc.)
    2. A huge musical dance number using video game music

I think they’re trying to cover all of those with “Best Handheld Game”.
It’s all fine and dandy for now, but they should really look into the portable gaming library a little more.
The same could be said with PC games, but I personally don’t play PC games that much, so I wouldn’t know of very many beyond a few popular titles and a handful of semi-obscure classics that come and go in my memories.

When deciding the nominations for the VGA’s, did you take into consideration the critique of other professional video game websites like: IGN or gamespot?

Is there a real need for a best soundtrack award? Especially since it is all based on video games that require you to play music or hit notes (Guitar Hero, Rock Band etc).

What was the purpose of an adapted game category?

There are no video game character awards, why is that?

Why are there no categories based on innovation (kinect, PS move for example) or innovative games that will hope to change the industry?

    Here are my questions:
1.) Would you consider removing the music games from the Best Soundtrack category as a music game is based on music and without music there would be no game. Music games should be just that Best Music Game category.
2.) Would you consider adding a Worst Game category, or similiar categories to what Gametrailers.com does for E3.

I have a serious question. How come every year, no Wii games ever make it into the game of the year category. It’s always Xbox 360 and PS3. The Wii has amazing games that never seem to get recognized. Does Spike TV have something against the Wii, or just a personal bias towards the 360 and PS3?

And another thing, how come all of the celebrities on the show have pretty much nothing to do with video games, why can’t they just get some people in the industry?

One last question, why not have a “most innovative game” category? That’s a very important category in the industry today.

    Dear VGA,

1.) Why do you show non-videogame-related people/products/movies during the VIDEO GAME awards? Doesn’t that directly contradict your purpose AND make you look like a sellout?

2.) You’re already advertising numerous video games when you show nominees, why do you need to advertise a non-video-game related product in order to have the money to advertise a video game? It just doesn’t make sense.

3.) Did you know that adults play video games too? I’m just asking to make sure because it seems your VGA show is very immature, like something a teenager would dream up after a couple of cases of beers.

I suggest that there should be a website where Gamers choose themselves. Otherwise, there may be corporate bias involved in the award picking. Gamers should also be in the nomination picking process. So we don’t have to deal with crap like FF13 being nominated for an award. Also, as everyone has been saying, there should be a multiplatform category.

    Hey Joe!

Awesome job on getting an interview with the VGAs. I will be watching (sadly) and looking out for you and the interview. My questions and critiques are thus:

    1) The best performance by a human male/ female category is really stupid. I mean “human male/ female”? As opposed to what “canine male/ female”? Why can’t we just have a best male/female voice artist and best supporting male/female voice artist?

    2) the best PS3 category has an anomaly in it. I see that the 360 nominees have ALL 360 exclusives so why in Red Dead Redemption in the PS3′s nominees? I mean don’t get me wrong I LOVE RDR (look at my avatar for Gods sake) but there really should be another PS3 exclusive in RDRs spot and have a best multiplatform game category.

    3) Why is Donkey Kong country returns even nominated?! And you can’t hide this the nominee list came out before the game did!!!

    4) Why a best handheld category? If you split the other consoles then these should be split up too.

    5) Why all the fake celebrities? Fake meaning they know and we know that they haven’t gamed a day in their life. And why all the eye candy celebs? I know spike is the guys channel but there is a time and a place for that and it’s not during a rewards show!

Well after looking at the nominees I have to say it is better this year but it could be better. Some categories need to be split into their console (best psp game & best DS game). While some need to be lumped together (best multiplatform game). While I do think the nominees are better lets see who actually wins. Then I’ll judge

Ask them legitimately how much longer they think they will hold the VGAs like this. 5 more years? Until the next console generation? This is their last show?

Also, it’d be great to find out just how they got in contact with you, whether they seriously saw you and thought you’d make a great guest, or if they searched “video game reviews” in google and sent an automated e-mail to you.

    2) Why are big name, more popular titles nominated more often, even though smaller hidden gems may be much better than those big tittles?

    1) Could you give an individual award to best multiplatform game and change the the console awards(Best WII, ps3, 360 etc) to best exclusive so that other titles like Red Dead Redemption don’t end up in two of those categories?

    2) It seems that the VGA have a heavy Bias against Japanese games and are more in favor toward Western Developers. Seeing that Japan has played a big role in the development of video games why are there very few games from Japan in the awards?

3)Why do you have a category for best handheld game instead of categories for best DS game and best PSP game?

    4) Why wasn’t Leonard Nimoy nominated for best Male VA for his role as Master Xehanort(pron:say-anort) in Kingdom Hearts:Birth By Sleep for the PSP?

But if this is a GAMING awards show, ALL games should be represented, not just some. Even the academy awards have best international film. Do most americans, the target audience, even know those films? probably not, but they feature it anyway. And that makes it far more legitimate. They should have a category for international games really, especially since the PS3 is region free gaming. And you never know… some popularity could be gained, and some great games that would have never gotten exposure in the US would have reason to be released here.

Okay, here’s some questions from me:
    1) Why is there so little attention given to JRPGs? There’s plenty besides FInal Fantasy like the Yakuza series, Persona series, Tales series, etc.
    2) If you’re going to hype up games that haven’t been released yet, then why not make a top 3 or 5 most desired games to be localized with explanations as to why?
    3) How about providing a look at popular MMORPGs so those of us who are hesitant about picking them up can be better convinced?
    4) Could we see some appearances by voice actors in video games, especially those who are being nominated for awards? Then you could show some scenes of the character they play to demonstrate why they deserve the award for their acting talent.
    5) If you want to have celebrities show up, then how about more who are familiar with the gaming world like Jack Black?
    6) Considering it’s a new category, how about an award for best independently made game like the ones we can download from Xbox live?

Would Spike consider including a ‘post-award’ popular vote? Have viewers vote via text/online which game *they thought* should have one, a la “Dancing With the Stars” or “American Idol”. The commercialism is covered by getting call phone companies to promote it – they make money on the texts, after all. This way Spike would get some immediate feedback from their viewership.

The first question I would ask them is “does it hurt when they walk”, I mean I would hurt if i got bent over that badly by the advertisements and product placement. On a more serious not here are some of the questions that should be asked or thoughts stated to them.

1: Why the ridiculous amount of advertisements and product placement? It is so annoying I don’t even want to watch.

2: Why do games get multiple entries? Do you have to buy your way into this competition? Get some of those lesser known games that are good, give the little guy a chance.

3: What is with the big time celebrities? I personalty don’t care about these people. Please get more people from the game industry; as an example you could get one of the producers from gears of war to do the award for best RPG, someone that isn’t in the category ( be awkward for someone to give themselves an award) and if they are not that big give a small introduction and make them look important.

4: Why can we not vote what game and what aspect of said game it is getting nominated for? One example that still baffles me is, why does Sargent Buck get the Halo Reach “Best Performance by a Human Male” nomination when he has all of two lines?

5: Can we please get better categories? “Best Performance by a Human Male” is not only ridiculous but it makes the majority of gamers look like incompetent retards, like we need help distinguishing species. Also can we make the categories friendlier to non-gamers? For example instead of “Best Graphics” why not Best Visual Effects, you know make it something that my parents or other non-gamers can relate too.

6: Why do we not put these big time celebs to use and have them compete in a quick match of what ever game that wins that way we can really see if the game is really good or just nice collection of cinematic events. This does not need to be a 20 min ordeal just a quick 2-3 min clip of people playing and their reactions.

These are just a few of my ideas and I hope that we as a community can help make the Spike VGA something to actually watch and not be embarrassed by.

I would ask why the producers cannot find their own identity and try to heavily mimic the MTV award shows. Yeah, I realize GameTrailers and Spike are both owned by MTV, but that’s beside the point.

If Geoff Keighley really wanted to represent true gamers, he should realize that we’re not the same audience that watches those shows. We don’t believe Twilight is movie of the year material for example.

The VGAs show comes off as being ashamed of itself and is unable to be truly authentic. It acts like an attention starved child that is trying desperately to gain your approval. All it ends up doing is either embarrassing or annoying you.

Stop with the in-your-face ads, desperate celebrity appearances and sloppy game nominations. Involve more people in the industry, don’t make category winners a popularity contest and be different for crying out loud! It would bring creditability to your show if you involved outspoken figures like Gabe Newell, John Carmack, Warren Spector and David Jaffe.

Why does the Soundtrack category cover only soundtracks in music games which usually involve mainstream artists and music, and not original compositions by people such as Jesper Kyd, Michael Salvatori or Jeremy Soule? Including these would be a big step forward in acknowledging the medium’s artistic values and would do wonders for gaming in general.

    Questions for the VGAs:

Why the lack of Japanese developed / published games?

Why have a multiplatform game be best PS3 game / X Box 360 game

    Why allow open voting?

How dose a game that has not yet been released get nominated to win a category

Why the lack of RTS games? fighting games? platforming games? puzzle games?

Best performance by a human male / female! why not just have “best voice actor”
Why all these big name celebs on the nominations? Why not nominate full time voice actors like David Hayter, Quintin Flynn and Roger Smith?

How do games the nominated for these categories? Do you just pick the most popular games?

I’m seeing a lot of the same games get nominated for more then one category. What’s up with that? Have you guys played any other games?

Best soundtrack and best music game have nearly identical nominees. If your going to have 2 separate categories, shouldn’t they have completely different games?

Best studio of the year. This should defiantly have more developers / publishers. Have you guys heard of Capcom, Namco or Konami?

What is up with all the ad plugs? Best game fueled by mountain dew? WTF!

Why have all these big name celebs on the show? Many of them clearly are not gamers and are just faking it. We can tell. Get big names from the gaming industry / community for the show. Have Power Glove play a few of their heavy metal video game cover songs. Or the voice actor Jon St. John [since he voice acts duke nukem] give the award for best shooter.

hmmm this is all I can think of for now

    I have a couple.

    1) Why is there not a best game for each home console and best game on portable.
    2) Why is there not a Best multi-player (do both at the same time for in living room and online)
    3) How about best sports games instead of best team sports games. (I know a few that are not team games that are really good)

That is all I have that wouldn’t repeat at all, and a side note, I really never watched it, caught a lot of it online a few minutes ago.

My concern with trying to whip the VGA’s into shape is that I am skeptical that the people involved with the show are interested in improving it in the way we want to see. Everything about the show so far has said loud and clear that it’s intention is pure and simple marketing. My admittedly cynical reaction to this invitation is to say that all they want from you is a good bit of PR with hardcore gamers as a demographic. However, I am not just commenting to nay-say. I do have a suggestion. Now these guys are, as evidenced by their show, marketing guru’s. The only real question is are they marketing gurus who are also gamers or pure phonies. So what I want to see you ask these guys are questions like this:

What was the first game that really moved you and why?

    And the most recent game?

“What was the first gaming system you owned and what was your favorite game on it.”

As practiced TV professionals I have no doubt whoever you are speaking to will be able to come up with a decent sound bite for an answer but what I want to see is if they have any genuine nostalgia or love for the hobby. If not then I doubt any amount of our input or pressure will make the VGA’s into anything more than they are.

Well said. I, too, am not naive about this corporate endeavor called the VGAs. Regardless what questions are asked, I would like you (Joe) to ensure that the people at Spike understand that there are millions of gamers who would watch the show if it were truer to gaming culture. Of course they must make their money, or what’s the point in putting on the show (for them), but there doesn’t seem to be any integrity in the show.

I guess one of the questions I think you should ask is, “Why do you think gamers should tune in to the VGAs, considering its lack of congruence with the gaming world’s opinions?” In other words, the actual awards are not given to the games which gamers would pick, regardless of the popular vote/popularity contest. The point should be made that this is a great platform to award worthy games, and the system is broken, so change it. The selection process changes you’ve suggested in the past have been great. I hope you suggest them to Geoff.

      Good Luck, Joe, and Thanks!

#2 What is your criteria for games that go up for voting?

#3 Do you personally play games?

aside from awards, there could be also a machinima shorts theater section much like we see in movie festivals like cannes.
i believe this could enforce further the idea of videogaming as art and as a way to show the people their creativity. could they consider the possibility of integrating this into the show?

Good luck surviving the VGAs Joe and here are my questions:

I noticed last year, the VGAs only showed less than half of the winners and felt like some of the awards like Best male and female Voice Actor were pushed aside for minute-long mentions. They forgot that a award show is showing all the winners for how much work they did to get the award they rightfully deserve. Can you please cut the cameos and/or performances to less than 9-10 min. in total, in favor of showing and giving the rest of the awards on the big stage?

Will there be a full trailer of Duke Nukem: Forever this year?

A few questions for the VGA’s *ahem*

    1. Why is it you let the fans chose these games? Have you considered that there should be a group of members of the gaming industry to judge the games like the Academy Awards for movies?

    2. Why when there is a game that is offered on multiple systems you nominate it for one of the best games only one system? Shouldn’t those types of games just go for just best genre categories? Mass Effect 2 is nominated for best 360 AND PC game. make up your minds please!

    3. I am glad that hand-held and Nintendo system titles are finally in the awards, but why were they never there before? Also shouldn’t there be different categories for PSP and DS?

    4. Best Soundtrack for a video game DOESN’T MEAN SONGS! This is about composed music that rivals the composed music in hollywood films. Rock Band belongs in Music Game, not soundtrack. Yes you do have Best Original Score, but Soundtracks can have adapted songs, that’s perfectly fine.

    5. Best Adapted Video Game…why is there a category for this? Is this really necessary? Also goes for Most Anticipated Game…sure you could have a clipshow about stuff games to come soon, but giving an award?

    6. Why is Left 4 Dead DLC The Sacrifice not in the Nominees? That was one of the greatest DLC’s released this year.

    7. It seemed the discussions for the Wii games were rushed and all of them are Nintendo made titles. I’m sure there are non-Nintendo created games for the Wii that could have made it to nominations as well. DONKEY KONG ISN’T EVEN OUT YET!

    8. Studio of the Year. It’s not a bad idea for an award, but just because that studio’s game is up for game of the year doesn’t mean it automatically goes for it. A studio could have worked on several games and/or DLC and should be recognized.

Overall: You are really biased. There are so many games not covered at all. Many complain that handheld games aren’t given enough light, and I strongly agree. Some people are woundering why Kingdom Hearts: Birth By Sleep and Pokemon Heart Gold & Soul SIlver were not on the lists. Both games bring many new things to the table in addition to the basics of their series.

I think that this need to be taken out of the public’s hands for decision making. Perhaps saying what you think should be nominated? That would be fine but have the actually winners judged by non-biased group of people within the gaming industry.

Also, no minecraft. You know, the independent game that EVERYONE is talking about?

Why don’t you have two different categories for music games and best video game sound track? Some new games like the God of War series and Starcraft II have excellent soundtracks that deserve separate attention from Rock Band and Guitar Hero style games.

    Alright, some questions:

    1) I understand the need for star power to draw fair-weather Spike fans to the VGAs, but why aren’t there more video game people involved? Journalists like Keighley and personalities like those from Rooster Teeth would be a welcome addition, I would think (especially considering Halo: REACH coming out this year and the Red vs. Blue promotions they’ve done in the past).

    2) Keighley has had to face the brunt of leftist sensationalism when it comes to games; the Fox News segment on ‘Mass Effect’ in which he defended the title as well as gaming culture was praised by gamers. Now he is dealing with criticism from those same gamers for the commercialism and skewed choices in the VGAs. Ask him how it feels and if your inclusion as a respected game reviewer has anything to do with this.

    3) I won’t say that the VGAs can’t exist without some form of commercialism backing it up; it’s not possible. However, couldn’t they include gamers into the voting process by having them vote via cellphones, certain browsers with online ads, and other media to help raise that financial backing while also including gamers into the process? (Sorry for the rambling, poorly-worded question; perhaps you could elaborate more eloquently than I can).

I’ve never really seen the show. Maybe because I live in Sweden, or maybe because I don’t own a tv, anymore (pc monitors with hdmi ports =D ). But, I did track down the 2009 award show on youtube and tried to watch it. I don’t think I made it past 4 minutes before I had to skip ahead, and I didn’t feel like wathcing the whole thing either.

Anyway, from what I have seen and heard it feels like Spike is more trying to ride on the gaming culture to garner advertisment revenues than trying to be a representation for the industry. The “Fueled by Dew” thing was just ridiculous. I mean, I love Mtn Dew, but creating a category completely based on advertising is just completely transparent.

So I guess my first question would have to be. What does “fueled by Dew” mean? Do they pour Mtn Dew into the cooling systems on their computers?

On second thought, it may be my only question. Because the big things have already been brought up by other people, so I’ll just reiterate the points.

The overblown advertisements. It’s quite frankly ridiculous. I’m, as most people, fully aware that sponsorship is a huge deal of getting an awardshow going. But there’s a difference between having sponsors and trying to push products. In the first case a company chips in and help out with the show in exchange for some exposure, while the latter a company throws money at the people in charge of the show and demand (over)exposure of their brand/product. To me, VGA looks to consist mostly of the latter kind.

The almost random celebrities. I can sort of understand this one but it can certainly be done much better. As much as I liked Zachary Quinto in Heroes (well, before the show spiraled out of control), other than that I’m not sure he’s been outspoken about games much, and he just happened to push a product to (I think it was STO) and the same goes for almost every one of the presenters. They’re there because they are known and can push products as well. Samuel L Jackson might sound like a cool choice (I’m not necessarily saying it’s not though) but he was there because of the same reason. To push a product Force Unleashed 2. That’s the ugly thing about it too. It’s not only because of Spike that the VGA is like it is. The game industry is also at fault because they also throw money at the VGA, and push their products.

I’m not against advertising or big corporations, not at all. But in my book, if you want to give out awards you have to have integrity. Something Spike is seriously lacking if you ask me.

Went on a tangent there. If they want to have a celebrity host, get Robin Williams to be host. He’s been an outspoken gamer for years, and he named his daughter Zelda, and who better to have do some mid-presentation banter than a freaking comedian?

I agree that they should get some people the gaming culture knows about and would like to see rather than mostly hollywood stars that have moderate to fleeting connections to gaming culture. Some people off the top of my head; AVGN (he’s even been affiliated with Spike, getting in contact with him should be easy), People from gaming sites such as well… BT (of course) and Screwattack, Cliff Blezinski (unless Epic is nominated for something), Shigeru Miyamoto (highly unlikely, but hey, worth a shot), Vin Diesel, Suda 51, and so on. A healthy mix of people from the industry, celebrities with connections with gaming and people involved with gaming culture.

I also think a good idea for the nominations would be to have their own selection, but leave a few slots open for the public to vote in their suggestions. Maybe have a peoples choice award even?

Ask them what fan base they think they are reaching with their VGAs? Is it the younger male “Spike TV audience” or do they really think gamers as a whole are enjoying their show.

Then ask why they think whichever way they think that.

Ask them what games they personally have played in the last 3 years.

These are more statements than questions but I think they are still important:

statement 1: Use celebrities who love gaming (such as Jack Black or Ice-T). It is obvious some celebrities don’t know what they are talking about.

statement 2: I know women are hot but the way you use them reflects a negative stereotvpe of gamers.

statement 3(the most important one): You should discuss gaming issues such as the supreme court battle or the debate of games as art. Show the world that gaming isn’t mindless and actually affects todays society. (On a side note is is never a bad thing if more people know about the supreme court issue.)

statement 4: Joe had a very good idea about showing video game tournaments at the VGA’s to promote new games. Do that. It would generate more hype than a trailer.

statement 5: “Best indie game fueled by dew” makes me want to shoot my TV.

Congrats Joe. Make sure to ask the tough questions.

Some of my questions for Geoff.

    1. I love Joe’s idea to showcase the biggest names in fighting games. Could we ever see that live on the show? You had arcade units of Street Fighter IV on the red carpet last year. How about a preview of Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition this year?

    2. How come music games are allowed to be nominated for Best Soundtrack? I loved the music in Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World but it got snubbed due to all of the other music games.

    3. How about an award for favorite old school game, or best remake to a classic game?

    4. What’s the cutoff date for a game to be included in the nominations?

Really stress that its not all PS3 and 360 and there are so many gamers who need to represented. Basically I agree with you and just interrogate them. Ask Geoff what his favorite game is. Ask if he knows about Machinima. Ask about WoW, CoD, Halo, and every game. Make sure that the VGA’s is by gamers for gamers. Thanks Joe for getting this opportunity for us. As for my suggestions for your interview I agree with you that there should be more foucs of the art of gaming and that they should not appeal to the lowest common denominator, so it is my hope you bring that up

. I personally would like you to ask is why do games that are reviewed highly but don’t sell well aren’t nominanted for awards and do you think non console exclusives should be contenders for best XBOX 360 or PS3 game, or should there be a creation of best mulitplatform game.

    My question to them:

Why is there an over reliance on having categorize for best games on a given system/type and not more on the concepts of video games. Catorgies like: most innovative feature, best new i.p., best story, best character, most orginal concept etc.

The biggest thing they could do to legitmise there awards in my veiw would be to have a lifetime achievement award. This would be a great way of honouring the past developers and showing were video games have come from.

    (Sorry about the english)

1- Can you remember your childhood with videogames? If you were a gamer back in the days, was you upset about the estereotipical about gamers (anti-social, loosers, nerds, living on parent’s basement, jerking off about japanese draws, etc)?

2- What do you see in a videogame? You see graphics, history, gore, boobs, music, gameplay, customization, etc?

3- Are you aware that videogames makes more money than movies or music industries? Isn’t the time to get serious about making a good videogame? (Like Ocarina of Time, Halo or Call of Duty)

4- Can you give credits to the composers, designers, producer, etc. instead of sponsors?

5- What’s your opinion about DLCs? (If they know what they are)

6- What’s your opinion about movie-licensed videogames and movies about some videogames? (Like Silent Hill or Resident Evil)

7- Are you trying to make Spike’s VGA like the MTV music awards? (LOL)

8- This Spike’s VGA is about helping the industry of games and promoting the art of making that or just the aptempt to raise the consoles/PCs into the media in a monetary type?

9- Is a good idea to take some of the most famous names in the videogame industry (not only americans) and videogame’s reviewers to make a good selections of games?

10- Have you heard about E3, Comicon, TGS, GDS, etc? Are you aware that these Game Conventions are -by far- superior to your VGA?

These are my question, and Good Luck Joe!

I am quite shocked that the awards have been this bad if Geoff Keighley has had as much input as you would expect him to. Geoff Keighley has been a game journalist for many years and knows about games and defends them adamantly (hell he’s the one who defended the Mass Effect sex scene on Fox News for all the good it did). I hope he does have a major amount of input though cause that could really improve these awards. Anyways:

    1) What is with the under representation of video game music here? I mean sure you have the best original score category but the best soundtrack and music game categories are practically identical and the best song in a game category is basically just the best licensed song category.
    2) Why in the hell do these awards insult us more than compliment us? I just feels like they’re trying to appeal to a wider audience… an audience THAT WILL NOT BE WATCHING THESE AWARDS!
    3) Why is every game nominated a AAA title? I mean I’m sure Fable III and Mass Effect 2 and all were fine but best RPG? I wouldn’t go that far considering how many smaller developers there are out there who make games light years better than stuff made by bigger studios.

I know these have already been said but I felt I should reiterate just for emphasis.

I’ve got a few questions actually, if you’ll humor me here.

    1. So first off, why is it that (at least in previous years that I can remember) the winning games are decided by online voting rather than a group of judges in the gaming industry? It’s not that it’s a bad way of going about it, but moreso that it becomes less of a quality judging and more of a popularity contest.

    2. Why is there more focus on getting celebrities who have next to nothing to do with gaming than there is getting actual gamers/game makers like Will Wright, Hideo Kojima and Ron Gilbert?

    3. To branch off the last question, what’s with all the unrelated musical guests? If anything there should be a large amount of pieces from Video Games Live, or at the very least artists who were part of recent musical games.

    4. This is more of a personal one, but why do all of the musical games nominated for best musical game seem to be either guitar or dance games? Where’s the love for games that focus less on the song’s specific instruments or dance moves and more on the actual rhythm, such as Elite Beat Agents or Rhythm Heaven?

    5. And finally, Is it at all possible in the near future for us to see a VGA where gamers, men, women, hardcore AND casual are all represented, rather than the typical Spike TV Demographic? (I.E. MEN, UNGH, OH YEAH GURL, EXPLOSIONS AND NAKED LADIES AND BEER AND STUFF MAAAAAN.)

I want to see people i know in the gaming world be involved in this show, not a bunch of random people that are not oblivious to the gaming culture and comunity. Find and include people we want to see like some of the gaming developers. If they want to include celebrities, get ones that play games (nathan fillion, samuel jackson, bruce campbell, etc.) that would be cool too. if they make these changes it would get me to actually watch the show and possibly suggest it to others.

on a side note i think it would be cool if they could create an opportunity to invite indie game developers to speak at these events (e.g. tim schafer). It would be nice to see thier recognition of the indie developers, it seems they really dont have a place in the current VGA ceremony.

One obvious suggestion is to decrease the, to quote you Angry Joe, “Blatant Advertisement” mention the sponsors but don’t dedicate an award to them. Also wouldn’t a world premiere or a sneak peak have far more impact if the actual people from the company showed up to introduce it? If these awards are chosen by the people why not represent them? Like have awards for best halo or call of duty kills. Lists of these top kills show up every now and then so why not give these people praise for their achievements? Considering the increased quality of DLC games like the recent Tomb Raider game why not have an award category? Another thing you mentioned for the first VGA invite video was the art of video games. Why not award the people who design the vivid worlds and interactive environments? Would Dragon Age be as fun to play with its dark tones and amazing scale such as the Mages Tower or Orzammar? Or would Mass Effect 2′s Omega port have the same feel without the pipes and seedy structures? Bottom line don’t just reward the studio, lead designer, or celeberties the game features give some thought to the people who help from the ground up!

I don’t care what you ask, only that you do your interview as Angry Joe.

Be angry, don’t suck up to anyone… and if someone posts a really good question try and nail someone to the wall with it in a way that is impossible to give a canned response for.

Let me type that again, don’t let him give you a canned response… make him regret giving you an interview if all he wants to do is USE you to help advertise Spike TV and the VGAs in particular to that internet thing like so many other companies do. (cause that is why you got invited imo.)

Be my hero, be Angry Joe, don’t puss out because of some network guy. Deliver a righteous beat down of criticism and make him tremble before your fans. I KNOW that you can, and I hope that you will.

Best Independent Game Fueled by Dew? This is why I have stopped watching the VGAs.

NO! Just NO! I don’t want him to conduct it as Angry Joe. I want him to conduct it as he has in his past interviews. As a well spoken gamer who is concerned about the future of games asking challenging questions to the interviewee! I think conducting it as Angry Joe would be a mistake and would give the wrong idea. We want to help, that would just make this community seem like a bunch of elitist assholes. Joe can make him tremble in fear without being Angry Joe I am sure…

I sincerely hope that Joe takes this seriously and some good can come out of it. We all love Angry Joe and his style, but there is a time and a place for everything. And a serious interview that can have severe impact on the future of a gaming awards show is not the place for that!

Also… all my questions have already been asked… Namely Gaming personalities and the Music game/ Soundtrack categories.

Suggestion: I think they should limit the Soundtrack categories to include ONLY OSTs. Meaning, any music previously released in mainstream media (with exception to opening/closing music) should not be considered to for best soundtrack category. That way games with truly great soundtracks that add to the game play can be considered and highlighed, besides the track list of Music Games (We all know the great majority of songs in music games are great, I mean, that is why the ORIGINAL ARTISTS have probably already been honored in some way, and have reached critical acclaim.) Really this is what it should have been from the start. Track list = levels not a soundtrack…

In the eyes of the VGA, what does the typical gamer want in a video game? What do gamers want out of the show? What do developers want out of it?

What makes this year’s VGA different from the one last year?

What made Spike TV want to host such an event? I mean, G4 TV would obviously do it, but Spike?

Some of these might already being asked, but here goes anyway:

    1) Why do you nominate games that are not even out yet?

    2) Why are you nominating games based only by sales figures? If the Oscars where like this, Transformers Revenge of the Fallen would have won Movie Of The Year…

    3) Is it possible to invite celebrities that are DIRECTLY RELATED to the video game industry? Why so many pop stars that have NOTHING to do with gaming?

    4) Is it possible to use your sponsors in a less obscene way than, for example: “Best game of the year PRESENTED BY Mc DONALD, AT Mc DONALD GET A FREE BIG MAC WHENEVER YOU BUY A HAPPY MEAL. Mc DONALD, I’M LOVING IT!”

    5) As part of the show, can you organize some epic gaming duels and/or showing some more exclusive previews/unveiling rather than unrelated musical numbers?

    6) Finally, is it possible to make this show a little more glamorous and official like the Oscars and less than a late night talk show for retarded teens?

First of all, congratulations Joe, you just made yourself to national TV by torturing yourself by playing bad games and a few good ones.

As for what should i make a question of, i would ask.

Is there really a need to pay T.V/Movie/Music stars to participate on a video game show even though they are not fans of the game or even play it in the first place? Instead of spending that money on stars, you could do more interesting events such as Real-Time trivias over the internet and pick a lucky winner at the end of the show or something with that sort of concept.

Another suggestion would be to take the PC genre onto the show and to nominate the Original Sound Track of a game and not mix it up with licensed ones.

I guess that does it for me, hope you make a great host on the show Joe, we all know you can do it!

I’d like to know why they get some seemingly random celebrities to hand out the awards instead of well known people in the field of video game journalism, or even popular internet gaming icons (such as the AVGN as was mentioned earlier in another post).

This question involves the music and soundtrack portions of the awards. It seams that there are to categories to the awards to game soundtracks and to music games themselves, but many of the games on both list are games like rock band, guitar hero, etc. My question is:

When concerning video games nominated for best soundtrack, do the people with the task of choosing games for nominations take the time to look for those games with wonderfully composed original music(which include countless games this year) or do they grab the list for best music game nominations and print out another copy?

This probably didn’t bother other people as much as it bothered me but:

What basis are they using to judge the “best soundtrack” category, and why did games in the “best soundtrack” category usually end up being the same ones as in the “best music game” category?

i think you should ask them why their isnt catergories for each system. i know all of the different gametypes but we all know its gonna be alot harder to find a decent FPS on a WII then PS3. even the kinect, PS3 move and wii have their own separate way of using a game. the VGAs should address all systems and not just those that have the “better games”.

My final question would be, “Why are gaming companies coming out with gaming titles that are so badly done, yet they spend so much time and money on them?” I personally have noticed since the early 2000′s, that from the past 1990′s, the graphics have improved but the gameplay and quality of the story in games have decreased by double or triple the amount they use to in the past.

I would also like to second the questions concerning 1) why it has to be a voting-style award show, and 2) why the people at the show rarely (if ever) seem to be connected to games in any way.

I’d also like to ask: It seems like the hype that a game receives goes a LONG way in determining whether or not a game actually gets a nomination (see Final Fantasy XIII and Donkey Kong Country Returns). How much does hype play into the nomination process?

My questions. Why are the majority of the games nominated in the top categories big name titles that are either FPS games or have an M rating, with the Wii category being the clear exception? Are they trying to appeal to Spike’s demographic with these decisions? Are there no E or T rated or lesser known games that don’t involve guns that deserve consideration for Best PS3 or Xbox 360 game or Game of the Year? Or does a game have to be popular to be nominated?

“we understand you have to put on a show with a little glamor to get some raitings, Do you think its worth the sacrifice to cut a lot of that out to bring more of a proper real award show to the people?
Also would you have real industry people vote on winners instead of it being public where it doesn’t just come down to a popularity contest?”

Best question I can think of is:
“Why do Spike and the VGA treat video games more like sporting events and a vehicle for commercialism, than as art? Why can’t they treat this with the same dignity and humility as the Oscars, or the Emmys?”

I would like to why don’t they invite more gamer related guests. Most of the time it seems they invite celebrities that aren’t in any way related to gaming, often to promote a movie or TV show not related to games as well. It would be awesome to see the AVGN or any of the Channel Awesome video game commentators.

Why are some of the nominees games that weren’t even released when they were nominated? (If that makes sense, grammer isn’t my strong point)
