Despite all the frustration, Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood isn’t the most annoying ‘Creed’ I can think of.

Okay, a few things.
The ending weapon, the Apple of Eden, lacks control explanation. You’re supposed to HOLD X. I played for about two hours PRESSING X and could not fathom how foolish the system was. Then, on a loading screen, I read that all weapons have a “hold x” special attack. Let’s just say, it makes things a hell of a lot easier.
I love the way the game looks. ‘Nuff said.
I also love the new combat tweaks, but I still hate that insipid “kick” mechanic on tough enemies. AND THAT YOU MUST HIT LEFT TRIGGER TO ENTER COMBAT MODE. >:( So annoying.
I can’t see how the controls are awkward, though I do occasionally become frustrated with Ezio jumping in directions I don’t want. But most frustrating of the year? Hardly.
I also love the unique story premise. I used to hate it, but it has grown on me to the point of blind adoration.
Uh yeah, I love this game, and ironically enough, this was my first AC title… not so tough on newcomers, huh?
Damn it Sage! I didn’t have ANY problems until you pointed them out! It was just one of those things. . .
I personally love the whole Assassins Creed. Sure it can be easy, but I always have a blast.

While I disagree with you on the whole “it’s rather tedious” bit, I generally agree with the review. It really is one of those titles where it’s ideal for loyalists but a horrible pick for newcomers.
i think its an alright game :/
I couldn’t disagree more with ya sage. In pretty much all aspects.
I agree completely. Especially when it comes to the storyline and controls. The plot has become so complicated and far-fetched that it’s difficult to keep my disbelief suspended. And over half of my deaths in this game are a result of the messy controls.
It’s sad that hardly anyone plays this game online, as multiplayer is actually quite fun, if a bit repetitive. Although I have found that Ranked Matches seem to have far more players.
I have enjoyed this game, but I was a bit disappointed, I will admit. Hopefully the inevitable sequel will smooth out some of the flaws.
it looks like the kinda game yoy might like at a friends house but i havent played so idk
this review makes the game look much more awesome espcially the description of online multiplayer
I had a feeling the plot would start to crumble.
May get it
Might try it some time in the future
On another note, I love how there are people disappearing and appearing out of nowhere in cut scenes in the video. Look at around 5:28 of the video
Love these games, definitely getting this one. Didn’t really expect this sequel to have as many improvements as the first one, but i do hope the next one does! Wonder where and when it will take place
I enjoyed AC2 alot so will be buying this, sure the controls arnt perfect but beleive me i’ve played games with MUCH worse contols.
Enzio’s outfit is as suspicious as always.
it can’t be more frustraiting than spiderman SD but i really like AC and 2 so ill probably like this one i can deal with bad controls i mean i grew up when every game started to go to 3d so you got used to finicky controls
Great review. Sounds like this was a bit of a cash grab.
Man I really want to play this game but i dont think i will like the combat
cool vid
Need to get the second first… man I got some catching up to do.
I don’t usually have any issues with expansions but it wold better selling the game in the same case as AC2 as if it was a 2 disc game but I think where the dissapointing parts come in are from the fact that it came out year after the second I’d ratter the developers spend more time working on the game than making consistent relases not that I’m trying to talk down to the game.
Okay, I liked it alot and I just finished it today, but what the HELL was up with the ending? Jeez!
Dude, its awesome, i cant wait for the continuation!
I’m a fan of the AC series but I agree, the controls felt overly frustrating in Brotherhood, and my roommate felt the same as well.
This honestly feels like an overblown expansion, it changes very little from AC2 and what it does add rather quickly fades into the background and seems uninvolved. The whole recruiting and training assassins plays no part in the story beyond the introductory mission and after you get a few fully trained it seems to really unbalance game play as tasks that might have intended some strategy can be finished with literally a click of a button.
I also had similar frustration in the multiplayer. When, as stated, I finally got into a game it quickly got revealed the cat and mouse mechanics are largely based on how players use them. I unfortunately had the luck of only having targets that spend the match running around rooftops, thus making them impossible to kill. I also suffered a bug that left the game glitched and unable to ‘acquire’ a new target, so I couldn’t kill other players, but other players could hunt me.
Hopefully AC3 will switch things around to the better.
I really want to like Assassins Creed , with its beautiful graphics , great art , fantastic music and fun free roaming but , god , do I hate the combat . After 2 hours for the first games combat I put the game away and haven’t picked it up since.
It doesn’t really look like enough was changed to warrant a sequel. I had a feeling that this would be a problem. I might borrow it from a friend, but I wouldn’t want to buy this.
You know I’ve never really gotten around to playing the AC games. Is there a general consensus on these games or is split down the middle?
AC is a series where you either love it or you hate it. Either you love it so much that you forgive the series’ shortcomings or the shortcomings are so bad to you that you just turn and walk away. I personally find the games enjoyable and while the combat tends to be frustrating at times, I thoroughly enjoy the open exploration, assassination missions, and trying to blend in while gathering intel and making my move. So my opinion; give it a try, the worst that will happen is that you don’t like it.
I guess I will enjoy this one since the combat issues never really bothered me.
Nothing like a good assassination to put a smile on one’s face.
Now where did I my harlequin mask?
Its exactly the same as AC2 but with minor upgrades. Seems they are going the L4D route now.
right as always bennet
Good review. Nice to get a second opinion of it. Since I sunk 40+ hours of my life in 2 I’ll probably get this game too.
Nah…i dont really think this is a game worth buying.
I respect the fair review, and even though it’s starting to show its age, I still can’t help but love playing the Creed.
And no, I don’t mean the rock band.
i want to get it really bad
I like the multiplayer, its very different.
My son’s favorite method of assassination is to gradually nudge people fishing until they fall in the water and drown.
Your son is a genius!
Obviously the game was too new for many people to be playing multiplayer on. Unlike Call of Duty, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood is mostly about the single-player experience.
I kind of hope the next has more gameplay in the modern world, instead of just five minutes of action. Still great series.
I really liked AC2, but I was on the fence about buying it earlier. Right now, it looks like I’m going to the store next weekend to purchase the game.
I LOVE this game, then again i love every AC game, i’m an AC fan…
You fix the town? You assign assassins? Online mulitplayer? That’s interesting.
*goes to buy Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood*
I Guess that this is better than AC2
I hate to say it but sweeeeeeeeeeet
i didnt know what to make of this when i first seen it i thought it looked exactly the same as 2 and well i guess i was right lol
Seems interesting enough.
Good review! I will pick it up this game
I never made it all the way through the first one, got way too tedious
I actually like the combat in this game.
I loved pretty much everything about Asassin’s Creed 2, partially because I’m an enormous history nerd, so I guess I’m out to get this game too!
Assassin’s Creed was dead to me as a viable game series when it came in with that stupid Sci-fi plot to do with gene memory bullshit.
Wasn’t that like the beginning of the first game?
Yep. It’s like the actual game location wasn’t interesting enough, they had to put in a bullshit future gimmick. Very disappointing.
I can’t wait for Assassin’s Creed 3.
The first game was great I think I just got confused by the ending… Finding the feathers are a pain as well…. I’m getting this game tomorrow as well….
Was it just me or did you see those NPCs pop in and out of existence?
i love the series, but i love the parkor the most, i never had any issues with it (except in the first one and getting to the lighthouse i still shutter) and every game has those bits where u got to do pointless tasks that are never fun, now i havent played brotherhood yet but if what i hear is true then i am propply gonna put myself in a freezer and deforst the day before crhistmas because i cant wait to play this game.
…
I need to give the 2nd game and this a try, but i just got so bored on the first game.
Man I just don’t get this series. It just never seemed all that appealing. The first entry looked like a Prince of Persia wannabe, and so does every entry since, including this one.
Yeah…is it bad that I like Desmond’s story more than the assassins’?
If this isn’t going to make me like AC more after the atrocity that was Bloodlines, then I’m not so sure if I should get the rest. Still, you were fair, so I should be too.
Cool.
