Marvel.com has dropped the news about the 3 main play modes for Marvel vs Capcom 3, along with some additional gameplay information.
The first two modes are more or less what you would expect, namely single player and multi-player, with the latter of course having both off and online functionality. The third main mode has been dubbed Mission and will feature character specific challenges. It will also employ one of the games touted new features, the License Card which is described thusly by the fine folks at Capcom:
“Your own License Card will in fact record your data, let you choose your favorite icon to represent you and record your battles and player points. The data in the License Card will allow you to see positive and negative points about your play style. By reviewing player data online, you can find friends and rivals to play against and then do “recon” as the fight starts up. The License Card will allow you to see who an opponent’s favorite team of characters is, number of wins and losses, what kind of attacks they like and much more.”
It sounds like an expanded take on the PSN or X-Box Live account, with some intriguing additional bells and whistles. Players will be able to see for themselves when the game is released in both a standard and collectors edition, which features an art book, exclusive prequel comic, and Jill Valentine and Shuma Gorah as downloadable content, on February 15, 2011.

Cant wait to play!!!!!!!!!!
Deadpool vs Dante?! I think I just fangasmed.
I hope it’s a lot more diverse than the Kombo Challenges from Mortal Kombat. Something more like the missions from Brawl.
Clearly there’s going to be more characters, but I wonder if they’ll be unlockable from the start or if they’ll be DLC.
Its going be best Marvel vs Capcom game ever
can’t wait to play this game!!!! wesker’s gonna be sweet
The game is looking very nice, I see a ton of DLC down it’s path. Possibly the most anticipating games for next year.
I like fighting games, but I just hate memorizing combos and shit
but that’s a good chunk of fighting games…
I don’t know what I like I JUST WANT TO BEAT THE SHIT OUTTA THINGS
I know he’s not a favorite but I hope Ghost Rider gets added at least as DLC :/
They’ve said that he is not being included, nor are the Fantastic 4,, Man-Thing or the original characters of MvC2. They will only cameo, so they say. But if they are included as DLC if they change their minds…that would make me very happy.
Still why ARE they announcing DLC this early? I understand if it is about a few weeks away, but this? Eh, whatever, take what you can get. I just hope some more characters are hidden on the disc to unlock/are surprises to satiate before DLC comes out…or, more of it, rather.
man i hope they put frank west on this game
HE COVERED WARS YOU KNOW
i want this
Is that Dante from Devil May Cry AND Joe from Veiwtiful Joe?! I’m not sure if this game can hold that much awesomeness…
Hot damn that’s awesome!!

I wonder how many more characters they’ll add in the future.
they say about 40 with some downloadable content characters
This game looks and always has sounded amazing im getting the special edition just for the addition of jill valentine then kill everyone as all chris wesker and jill ;D
The third mode sounds really interesting. I wonder if this means we might see a combined leaerboard for both the Xbox360 and PS3 players.
Ahh Same old same old , Marvel vs capcom will never change
I was really hoping to see classic Mega Man in the game.
Oh well…hopefully he will come in DLC.
So very hyped for this game! Can’t wait! NVM, I take that Back. I’ve already waited ten years.
I’m not liking the downloadable stuff out of the gate, but I have to admit how much I am anticipating this game. So many characters I want to play.
I am intrigued. Show me what you got Capcom!
I like it. Sort of like street fighter alpha with the different styles.
I like most of this news, but other players are allowed to see your chars and common attacks? That just sounds like a bad idea…other more advance players are going to be able to easily figure out how to kick their ass! not good for the more casual players for this game…
Love MvC2. Cant wait for 3 to be released!
These games have always been a hit with me.
Missions? That sounds cool. I’m glad see an update on this, and I hope to see more when the release date is closer.
I’m super excited for this game. Every new character announcement keeps adding more and more awesomeness. I was sold when Arthur was announced. Now the only people left to announce are Megaman, Cyclops, Mike Haggard, and one more Marvel
MIke Haggar has been leaked to be in the game after a pic posted on Capcom’s twitter
They really need to add more fighters. 22 fighters is really short for 60 dollars game. But i guess more Modes will be better…
A new form a digital crack. The more I hear about it, the more I want to play it.
I am definitely looking forward to this.
they’re already announcing dlc characters? seriously capcom, i’m sick of this shit. stop it.
Not a fan of fighting games, but sounds interesting to me.
That’s it? Whatever Capcom, just have a balanced game with at least somewhat balanced fighters and I’ll be happy.
Is it me, or does that character select screen look smaller than the one in 2? I know the game isn’t out yet and this select screen is subject to change, but this a worse case scenario I hope is nothing more than an irrational fear.
I agree, it does look smaller. But I bet it’ll get bigger.
Can’t wait for this game.
While I must, I really wish I didn’t have to wait for this game.
Neato, now I just need a 360 or PS3.
Seems interesting enough. I just want to play the game already. ._.;
I am so stoked for this. I remember the day I got my Dreamcast and bought a copy of MVC2. Me and my friends didn’t play anything else for almost 2 years.
MVsC 3 just sounds so good. I actually reserved the collectors edition.
I love the idea of mission mode but I’ll spend most of my time in multiplayer.
This game just keeps sounding better and better, I can’t wait to get my hands on it, even though I’m probably gonna get trounced bad online.
I love Marvel comics and games, can’t wait for this!
street fighter was so awesome!
Heh, I’m actually more interested in that character select screen than the actual news. There’s room for 42 characters there, but only 22 shown (which is actually six short of the number already announced – eight short counting the two DLC). So plenty of room for more unknown characters, but gives us a likely cap on the initial roster.
On the actual news, mission mode looks like it may be cool. Seems like a variation on the Challenge Mode of SF4 and BlazBlue: Continuum Shift, except giving more general directions rather than specific combos to perform. I got pretty addicted to BB’s challenge mode for a while, so it’ll be interesting to see if this has the same effect on me.
still hard to beleive that it will be released after Valentines Day….too good to be true. and with every new character announcement, I fill my pants with shame >>
Holy cow, this is going to be an awesome game. I’ve been so hyped ever since it was announced, I and it launches only five days after my birthday! I can’t wait!
That License Card thing sounds pretty damn cool. Let’s just hope the netcode is as good as BlazBlue’s, or even better.
And there better be more non-DLC characters announced soon, because this CAN’T be it…
Well Zero, Arthur, Dormammu, and MODOK are missing (I assume they are unlockables). And then there’s Shuma-Gorath and Jill, the DLC that are on the SE 4 weeks before they are available to the rest of the world…
man cant wait to see who else they have in this game
They really need a combo battle mode, where whoever can get the highest nonstop combo wins
Look like they’ve got plenty of space for DLC characters.
Sounds like a Mark II version of the profiling in Tatsunoko vs Capcom, where that would tell you your opponents play style.
I love how they’re adding obscure characters like She-Hulk, there’s also a rumor they’re going to add Mike Haggar according to an official Capcom picture.
The Mission mode looks intriguing. Might be connected to specific Achievements that are earned in some of the Missions for achievement whores out there, and to give players a team that they might want to use in single and multi-player.
This game might even top Street Fighter IV in how big it gets, this game is just looking mor and more awesome!
The license card sounds cool, it’s like a scouting report on your opponent.
This is one game I expect to buy at release. Loved MvC2, and pretty hyped for this.
Wesker’s in it too now? And She-Hulk? MVC3 means I can now die a happy man.
While SSF4 was definitely a good fighter, I still wouldn’t have called it the best in the series (That one still goes to Alpha 3 or 3rd Strike.) Still, MVC3 looks good, and with Dead Pool in it, its going to be hilarious.
I’m still not too keen on having characters as DLC. If it was a few months down the line, I’d be more inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt, but this just seems like a cheap way to get money. Unfortunately, I’m a MvC Fan, so I will buy the game, though I’ll hold off on the DLC, unless it’s free. The Licenses seem like they will be useful, even if it allows people to plan out how to take you down beforehand.
I can’t wait for this to come out, MvC 2 was amazing and this is looking to be great as well.
