Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit Review
Returning to it’s 1998 roots, EA and Criterion Games reboot the Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit series and it kicks much ass!

Seacrest County has become the ultimate place to speed.
A playground for the most exotic cars and drivers in the world. But this is not a lawless place. Constant competition has led to the creation of the world’s fastest police force: Seacrest County Speed Enforcement. The SCPD spare no expense to redline it all the way and make you pay.
Every day, new drivers still show up in attempt to tame Seacrest County and outrun the law. The pursuit for the ultimate drive starts here.
Which side are you on?
| PROS | Burnout-quality action, Amazing quality to detail, Autolog sharing |
| CONS | ‘Nicking’ deaths, Music locked in cop vs racer missions, No local multiplayer |
| WTF?! | EMP locks onto allied cops? |
Electronic Arts will never let the Need for Speed genre fade into obscurity. As long as they’re are gamers who feel the hair stand on end as the nitrous ignites, and fans of deformed metal upon metal crashes, there will always be a Need for Speed. Criterion Games, the masterminds behind the Burnout series, have released their power forward of the decade with the reboot to the cops versus racers that started it all. Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit is now available for those armed with an Xbox 360 (console used for review), PS3, Wii, or PC, and and let me tell you, it’s one helluva ride.
The imaginary racing wonderland of Seacrest County, as stated above, is in a constant state of unrest, as its scenery, varying elevations, and unpredictable weather, makes it a vacation destination for any underground roadster who wants to tear the asphalt from the ground it lay upon. Illegal street races happen almost daily, with damages to the state going upwards in the thousands every time.
To combat this nonstop mayhem, the Seacrest County Police Department was created, dedicated to keeping the peace, and making sure to educate criminals that don’t know the meaning of the speed limit signs with twisted metal mayhem. Bearing the latest in automotive enforcement technology, such as rear deployable spike strips, offensive EMP generators as powerful as a lightning strike, record breaking response times for half-mile ahead roadblocks, and support from the police’s metal bird in the sky, the SCPD’s job is to make sure that street racing in Seacrest County only exists in distant memory.
But it’s not like the racer’s to take this abuse lying down. With the help of aftermarket technology, the racers have access to the same spike strip and EMP technology that the SCPD totes around in their interceptor vehicles, along with other surprises, like an EMP jammer to dissuade weapon usage from the cops, and an turbo injector so powerful that motion blur has trouble keeping up.

Need for Speed:Hot Pursuit is back and its got crazy chases that feel like they are gonna break the land speed record. Will this newest entry in the series be enough for it to take on its newest competitor? Birdman puts it through the motions and tells all about it right here!
What does Criterion Games + Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit + 1 Million votes on the trailer on youtube equal? Free cars!
With legendary metal machines on the road and a paradise racing county to explore, which side will you fight for?

It is a great, fun game and this is the perfect game for someone to get into the Need For Speed games.
i really want this game it looks like it would be a blast to play online
I just got this game and it is excellent! Finally! A call back to the classic drivers vs cops formula.
Definitely a must own.
Need For Speed has returned
I haven’t played a Need for Speed game before might get
IMO:
* Sometimes you crash into traffic and just go straight through like a steam engine, sometimes you loose all control and after a few seconds your car is reset. Please let me decide if I need a reset and NEVER TAKE CONTROL AWAY FROM THE PLAYER IN A RACING GAME!
* Everything is fenced of and you can’t even see the indestructible, tiny fence line at high speeds. Annoying much?
* You have to sit through a trailer for Shift 2 the first time you start the game. Fuck you EA!
* Speaking of watching crap instead of playing: Races start with a cinematic but it’s always the same, not too interesting. Good: You can press a button to skip it! Bad: Instead of skipping it right away it displays “Skipping…” for about 5 seconds and then skips it.
* Retrying a race after finishing it only works when you don’t unlock new stuff and generally takes too long to load.
* Criterion decided to be an asshole about local multiplayer: “The game does not have split screen multiplayer. We invented something we like to call ‘online multiplayer’ just for this game” http://twitter.com/#!/CriterionGames/status/17284326879 . Dicks.
It’s still fun but these things piss me off. I played the original Hot Pursuit a lot and I’m pretty sure that it is the better game. Not as arcade-y and there are no weapons (expect the spike strip or nitro. I also miss races with multiple rounds instead of start -> finish ones…
Guess I have to find my HP disc and compare it side by side to HP3 :>
I made a bet with my friend about the score Game Informer was going to give this game. I bet higher than an 8.5, it got an 8.75. Can’t wait to get this game.
uuughh this or GT5 >:o
A friend of mine just bought “Hot Pursuit” and we have been duking it out online. Its been AMAZING, and a must buy if you got friends with the game! Haven’t gotten to into singleplayer yet but the first couple of missions I’ve done are great and auto log just makes them better!
the game has amazing features
Now just if I had a console…
PC version sucks to all hell. Stay away from it.
i remerber this game back days
Looks like an interesting racing game
The Autolog is nice. The graphics are sweet. And I won’t play this game any more. The rubber band AI is just to horrible. The game feels like an old NES game when it comes to the IA.
I haven’t played a Need for Speed game in a long time. Maybe it’s time to check this out.
Sounds good
Good review.
This pleases me. I have a need….. a need ……. for SPEED. Not just speed, but mayhem and madness! Something that a certain upcoming racer doesn’t seem to be providing.
Driving fast, with crashes galore! Police on your back. Or, you ARE the police! Oh, this’ll never become a bore!
9/10? Splendid. This is the racing game that’s for mind’s intended, to race through weather, through obstacles unmatched. Battling out others, on the race tracks!
the only racing game i’ve played in the last like 10 years is forza 3 and even that got old after a few hours
The only Need for Speed game I have is Underground 2 for the DS. lol
I think this looks pretty awesome!
There needs to be a “I WANT IT!” vote.
i have the wii and i bought the gmae need for speed hot pursuit and it’s bulls*&^ the grahics are horrible and everything is horrible thats it i’m getting rid of my wii for an xbox 360
Don’t toss the Wii so soon; there’s plenty of quality games the Wii have as well.
well wat good games r there for the wi that are better then for the xbox need for speed hot ursuit is better on the xbox 360 the xbox gots halo reach red dead redeption
It’s about time they brought NFS back to it’s roots!
Hope ea puts dlc on all platforms, unlike what they did with burnout paradise.
always willing to try a cool looking driving game
I loved the first Need for Speed Hot Pursuit, this is definitely at the top of my list!
hmm how come this did better than call of duty black ops
Because I didn’t review Black Ops. I’ll probably rent that game for the single player, then return it.
I’m no good at racing gmaes
I love your captions.
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
I’m waiting for GT5 and probably wont get this bc of that….
I myself preferred the Burnout series, but I did like the police chases from Underground, so I might give this a look.
Nice to know it’s good. I played Hot Pursuit 2 to death back on the PS2.
i can wait after gran turismo 5 though
let’s see if gran turismo has what it gots
I was thinking about getting this. I played one of the first ones to do the whole racing vs cops thing where you play as a cop.
Getting this in a few days for my birthday present. I heard PC version is not as good, so we’ll see! Excited though!
i can’t wait to play this game. as arcadey as they are, i still love the nfs franchise.
it looks so awesome with the graphics and the demo was so awesome
I can’t do racing games
